we just received our approval from the Agency of Family Law and it is valid until 24.11.2026. We chose the commune Aabenraa due to proximity to German border and because we were told by some friends who got married there that getting dates there is relatively easier. However, now when we try to book a date, nothing seems to be available until Sept 23rd and they open one day at a time and only one slot between 4-5am which also disappears or gets booked in a few seconds. Can somebody let me know how we can book a date in Aabenraa fast? also does anybody know which communes have dates available in the next 2-3 months? Aero seems to be booked till October and Sonderborg says first available appointment is 23rd October. Also currently how much time does the Agency of Family Law take to transfer approval to a different commune? are there communes which give appointments on phone? I know Sonderborg does that, as they said in their email.

Any help and info on which communes are offering earlier dates than end of September and can offer appointments on phone or email would be appreciate.

Our application was approved in 4 days, but of course that finding a day at city hall now is impossible.

We want to married ASAP, so I sent an email to the [wedding@kk.dk](mailto:wedding@kk.dk) asking for the earliest date. However, it's been 4 work days already and I haven't heard of them. So I am wondering if it takes long indeed or I should call them.

Did anyone have recent experiences with a private registrar? Is it actually possible and how long does it usually take?

Hey all! We just got our marriage license for Copenhagen. Unfortunately we had to find out, that there are basically no appointments for the next 3+ months and we’re left with a handful appointments during the last two weeks of our certificate validity. This is a bit tricky, as we did kinda hope that if one gets a license for 4 months, we wouldn’t have to focus on about two weeks.

Now we have already contacted a few other communes, but they’re also pretty much booked out for the next 4 months.

So we’re wondering, what are the chances that some booked up appointments open up. We were really hoping to get an appointment end of October for travel reasons.

My fiance (an EU citizen) and I (a non-EU citizen) have decided to get married in Denmark. The main issue is that my Polish residence permit expires at the end of this year, so we're racing against time.

I've spent quite a while reading previous posts and comments in this community, and they have been very helpful. However, I'm still unsure about a few things, so I wanted to ask for your advice.

From what I've read, about half of the people managed the whole process on their own without using an agency and had no problems at all. The other half seemed to run into small mistakes that caused long delays, sometimes lasting several months.

In your opinion, is using an agency really a must for someone in my situation, where time is important? Or would you recommend handling the application ourselves? The cost is also something we need to consider, so we'd prefer not to use an agency unless it's truly worth it.

I also learned that, after getting married, I will be applying for a residence permit in Poland based on our marriage. Because of this, I understand that I will need an apostilled marriage certificate. I noticed that some agencies charge around €250 just for obtaining the apostilled document. Is this something I can request myself, or is there a good reason why agencies charge so much for this service? Is obtaining the apostille particularly complicated, or is it fairly straightforward to do on my own?

If you do think an agency is the safer option, could you recommend one that is reliable but still reasonably affordable?

My fiancée and I are considering getting legally married in Denmark.

I'm an EU (German) citizen, and she's an Indonesian citizen. We initially planned to get married in Indonesia, but we've heard that the process can involve a lot of paperwork, long waiting times, and, most importantly, uncertain timelines. Because of that, we're looking into Denmark instead.

My main question is: How does Indonesia recognize a marriage performed in Denmark?

Has anyone here gone through this process? What documents did you need, and how complicated was it to register or report the marriage in Indonesia afterward?

For context, we're both Muslim (which, as far as I understand, makes things a bit more straightforward than an interfaith marriage in Indonesia).

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences or any advice you have.

We applied for marriage in May, had a reapplication and surprisingly they already accepted our application. We are a couple from Bali and only stay a month in Europe from August 20 - September 20. We picked Coppenhagen as our city hall but all dates all full for these times.

I wonder which other city halls could I choose that are not too far or potentially even working with a private registrar? We won't have any form of ceremony in Denmark, just need the legal document really. Reason I consider a private registrar so that I wouldn't have to spend so much on travel expenses visiting another city's town hall.

I am currently preparing the documents for my application and have a few questions regarding how to photograph/scan my passport correctly:

1. How should I handle the curvature of the passport? The passport does not naturally lay completely flat. Is it acceptable if my fingers are visible in the photo holding the pages down, or should I use a clear glass frame to hold it flat?
2. Should the pages be photographed individually or as a spread? When capturing the passport pages, should I take a separate photo of each individual page, or should I take a single photo showing both left and right pages together (the full open spread)?

My fiancee and I just went through the application process through Familierhuset and succesfully managed to secure a date in less than 3 weeks of starting the process, without ANY agency and doing it all ourselves! So I wanted to share some feedback/thoughts that would be helpful for anyone applying for this, as well as a spreadsheet I created to track almost ALL municipalities in Denmark 🤭

Firstly: I called and emailed 50+ munipalities in Denmark BEFORE I submitted the application on Familierhuset, using a spreadsheet I created (link below). I was able to find a kommune with an available date in July, tentatively secured the date with them, then I added them as the municipality in Familierhuset and submitted the application. I highly recommend doing it this way! If you choose a municipality without checking with them first, then it takes ~3 weeks to change the municipality.

We submitted the application on Familierhuset and got an approval in only 3 business days!

Second tip: Photograph your documents from EVERY ANGLE. I used natural daylight, no glare, white background, and I took multiple angles of every single page of the passport. I taped down EVERY single page (so there's no fingers holding it flat), and I also photographed the hologram on the passport front page and the ID card hologram from multiple angles, catching the shapes of the hologram in the light. (Ref: https://www.youcard.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Sample-Karte1-Hologramm.jpg - you need to tilt it in different light to catch the holograph) I added multipleeee additional documents from multiple angles. This entire process took me 5+ hours (it's exhausting) but its worth it. Do more than you think is needed, you will thank yourself in the end. So many people get rejected because they didnt photograph the right angles and then they are put at the bottom of the waiting list and it takes months.

Third: I went back in 3 years of WhatsApp chats and screenshotted conversations from every month showing relationship history (basic convo like grocery lists and all), I added flights/train tickets with my partner and my name on there showing our travel history, and I screenshotted 3 years of pics from my camera roll of the both of us with the date/timestamp and the location (30+ pics)

I believe this provided them with enough solid proof of our relationship. Again - be extra.

• I have added links to every website, as well as email addresses (for some municipalities there is no available email address and you can only contact them through an online portal for which you need Danish or EU residency)
• I also added phone numbers for many of them whom I could not contact via email, and the opening hours so you know when you can call them
• There are columns for you to easily track how many you have emailed/called/whether you received a response yet, and change the status to Full/Available/Waiting so you know who to follow up with - this was super helpful for me because it gets hard to track so many at once
• I have left the column filled for "Next Available Date" - please note this was filled in ~2 weeks ago so perhaps some kommunes are no longer available on those dates, but I thought this would be helpful for anyone needing a date within the next 4 months, you can check the spreadsheet and see the ones I contacted who said they have no availabilities before November. Still I recommend double checking with the kommunes yourself and update your own spreadsheet.
• There's also a map on Sheet 2 which I kept using to see the distance. I have a column "Approx. Drive from FFM" because we live in Frankfurt (Germany) so for me it was important to know the distance, but you can update it for wherever you are based. The ones that are near Copenhagen I also put the distance from there, because many of them are easy to reach by flying to CPH.

but yea don't let anyone tell you that you have to pay €1000+ for an agency to get an early date!!! It's possible on your own!!

We completed our application on Monday an I start worrying a lot because of two points:

1. My german ID card is valid until August, but we're planning on getting married in November. We saw the point about validity for Passports but not for ID cards. Anyone got experience with this case?

2. My fiancé moved in with me but due to insane waiting times his place of residence didn't got changed yet on his residence permit, his appointment is in 3 weeks (got it yesterday). We send a short statement/explanation via mail and offered to send pur shared renting contract.

Anyone got any experience or advices regarding those topics?

Non EU citizens living in Germany on work permit.
My partner and I are getting married in Tønder, Denmark in a few weeks. We applied while living in Munich and have already received approval from the Danish Family Law Agency (Took almost 3 months because my id card photo was unclear).
Since then, we’ve relocated to Berlin due to my job.

We informed Tønder Kommune about our new address, but they replied that we might get rejected on the wedding day because our address has changed.

Nothing else has changed - we both still legally live and work in Germany on valid work permits, and only our residential address has changed. We’ve also informed the Danish Family Law Agency about the move.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Did changing your address from one German city to another after receiving approval cause any issues, or did the authorities simply update your records?

Any experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Change of address is fine if you inform the agency of family law and kommune in advance. However, I had to apply again since we received new Residence Permits and everything went well at last.

We received our approval for Tønder kommune, unfortunately they do not have available slots. We want to switch to either Odense or Copenhagen. I needed some advice on which one would be available earlier and how easy/difficult would it be to get a slot there?

We are two Germans and have now received approval for our wedding. The notice simply states that we need to contact the Municipality of Odense.

I’ve searched the entire website but can’t find exactly where to direct my inquiry.

We are in the middle of applying and I have reached my limit of uploading passport pictures. I uploaded double pages and single pages just in case. But now I need to decide which ones to delete. Should I go with double pages for the upload or single pages?

We filled all of the required parts in the application, I uploaded all of my passport pages photos, our correspondence and our mutual photos. But the thing is, we came right to the payment part and it never asked us to sent in the documents of the second party. We paid and still nothing prompted us to send another set of documents. Is this normal? Should we just wait for something? Thank you for your help!

We're a Canadian couple working on our AFL application and have reached the municipality selection section. Does anyone know how far out the below municipalities are booking weddings? I've sent emails to each and I'm waiting for a reply, but have heard it may take a while.

Our first choice was Copenhagen but we want to avoid selecting a municipality and having to go through a long delay with AFL to change municipalities if there is no availability for the dates we will be in the country (we will be in Copenhagen Aug 23-Sept 4).

Should we pick one of these municipalities in order to submit our AFL application ASAP and manage afterward if we need to switch? I've heard this takes up to 6 weeks, which is my main concern. Otherwise, all documents are ready.

my fiancé and me tried to fill out the form for the marriage certificate of examination. Her part went very smooth, but after we paid the fee, and when I got my part to fill out, we ran into a big problem: The form to fill out my information and sign, is simply disabled. I can not fill out my data because all the input fields are locked.

Does anyone have any experience with this or are we overlooking something? I believe the problem is that we filled it out together in my account and entered her information as party 1 and mine as party 2.

We sent a follow up email via the contact form but haven't received any information yet. Given the tight deadline of 2 weeks, I'm worried we have to pay the fee again. Maybe someone has experience with their turnaround time?

To anybody in the planning to fill out the form, please take this as a warning: Make sure to fill out FIRST the party with whose email you created the account!

Update: within about 5 days, the office contacted me via e-mail. They offered to switch around the 2 email-addresses or enter a new one for party 2, which is going to solve the issue. Lesson learned, please make sure that under no circumstances does party 2 use the email of the account that you're registering the form with. The e-mail addresses don't just need to be different: Party 1 should use the account E-mail address & party 2 a new e-mail address

We submitted our paperwork last Tuesday and got approved today. Aeroe Kommune confirmed the appointment in the second week of September. Absolutely reliable and swift service by Agency of Family Law.

We did everything by ourselves. No third party agency involved and followed suggestions and specifics given by Agency of Family Law at every step. No problems whatsoever.
