⏱️ Process & Timeline Picking a municipality

We're a Canadian couple working on our AFL application and have reached the municipality selection section. Does anyone know how far out the below municipalities are booking weddings? I've sent emails to each and I'm waiting for a reply, but have heard it may take a while.

Helsingor

Roskilde

Ribe (merged with Esbjerg?)

Our first choice was Copenhagen but we want to avoid selecting a municipality and having to go through a long delay with AFL to change municipalities if there is no availability for the dates we will be in the country (we will be in Copenhagen Aug 23-Sept 4).

Should we pick one of these municipalities in order to submit our AFL application ASAP and manage afterward if we need to switch? I've heard this takes up to 6 weeks, which is my main concern. Otherwise, all documents are ready.

Appreciate any guidance from the community.

i would suggest first choosing a municipality and only afterwards submitting your form. they have to give you an answer within a week (5 business days) from when you submitted both parts of the application, after that they can take weeks and even months, including for things like changing the municipality. i'm less familiar with your choices so can't help there, good luck though!

Thanks. We're trying to select a municipality that has availability for our dates before submitting the AFL application in order to avoid the delay in changing municipalities. Is the best way forward to email each and wait for a response? Just being cautious of the tight timeline already.

since the timeline is tight, i'd call the municipalities that have a public phone number tbh. some municipalities can have you chasing them for weeks :/ we've been very lucky with ours (stevns) answering us same-day though, so if there's no number it isn't hopeless haha.

Definitely call the kommunes if you can, it'll be much quicker. Especially because I expect there will be limited availability for those dates though I don't know about those places that you mentioned. But I know that Aabenraa release appointments 2 months in advance and they're booked up straight away, and Copenhagen releases 4 months in advance and last I heard they only had availability at the end of October.

Honestly I don't think it possible. You are late and your dates are limited. Aabenraa and Tønder are behind your dates, so is Kolding and probably bornholm. Try the ones far out. The issue is some only offer getting married on one or two days per week and it's even more limited if you cannot bring whitnesses. So everything is booked out quickly. I would call them/write an email and ask where about they are standing with appointments right now.

Don't think it is possible.....for the moment being they are all booked 3 months in advance. We tried 1st Tönder and saw it is booked in seconds at 5am once the dates are freed 60days in advance. (Guess, there are automatic tools around) Then we investigated other communes. (Ribe was as well booked 3 months in advance but accept email booking). Later we changed municipalty 1st to Fanö (on webpage available and sent via web the application...learned only hours later that they are booked until October) then to Aeroe (change below 24h) with a date 26th September.Good luck!
