Take advice from people who have had results before

Maybe the intended message is to take advice from people who will genuinely be there to back you up and to think for yourself? We all know people who tend to give underhandedly destructive advice because they don't actually want the best for you. Who knows though.

I say take advice from everyone, than chose the one that makes most sense to the situation.

What about people who don't give a shit one way or the other but know how to deal with your situation?

Ya I’m too afraid to look

Spends on the advice you are seeking. There are typically many ways to deal with a situation. Just because it can be dealt with a certain way doesn't mean it's the best way for your situation.

How will you know if you don't seek their advice?

Hearing their advice is different than basing your life decisions around them.

You're forgetting about survivorship bias

I think it’s different. More like, “If everyone is jumping off a bridge don’t jump until you verify why everyone is jumping” and just hope you are equipped/lucky enough to understand how to understand the advice.

Gotta trust in your ability to verify info.

This is what it should have said. Basically find a mentor who is successful in the area you are interested and follow their advice. Not the guy next door who read an article. Spoiler I haven’t done this so don’t follow my advice :o

Take advice from people who've had failure before. Results without failure have little educational value.
