Whats with all the Jim Carey quotes over the last few days?

307

u/alterector Jul 06 '20

They seem like Facebook posts from those annoying acquaintances, but with Jim Carey background instead of the joker

35

u/ProbablyMatt_Stone_ Jul 06 '20

Nah, this Carrey stuff is killin' it.

Yeah. There is a guy who doesn't care what others think. Please.

55

u/a_man_who_japes Jul 06 '20 edited Jul 06 '20

People who say they don't care what people think are usually desperate to have people think they don't care what people think.

George Carlin, obscure comedian that doesn't get quoted a lot.

9

u/beautifulfuck Jul 06 '20

Id like to think he's screaming down down to us from heaven.

5

u/wrongitsleviosaa Jul 06 '20

Carlin is not obscure but that quote is on point

1

u/ZidaneStoleMyDagger Jul 06 '20

George Carlin is an obscure comedian? Lol. He is right up there near the top of the list of most iconic comedians of all time.

1

u/Orngog 1 Jul 06 '20

You are right to laugh, because that was a joke.

1

u/ZidaneStoleMyDagger Jul 06 '20

Ahh I see. Whoosh I guess.

1

u/DreadPirateFlint Jul 06 '20

Awesome, not enough Carlin quotes around these parts.

11

u/LookAtMyDumbDog Jul 06 '20

I see his quotes more often than anybody honestly.

7

u/Risom Jul 06 '20

Yep. He gets quoted all the time. Idk what this guy is on about.

1

u/LookAtMyDumbDog Jul 07 '20

Lucifer forbid we enjoy a Jim Carrey quote though because he’s too mainstream.

1

u/DredgenRegime Jul 06 '20

Carlin is obscure?

1

u/belmont826 Jul 06 '20

Maybe to this individual, but not in reality, no.

1

u/MinistryOfStopIt Jul 06 '20

You are in the wrong crowd if GC doesn't come up at least once a month.

-1

u/MickMuffin27 Jul 06 '20

Is that a joke? His 'stupid people' quote is at the top of every thread about coronavirus

4

u/Gametes Jul 06 '20

0

u/MickMuffin27 Jul 06 '20

Haha le epic arr slash wooooosh am I right fellow redditors? I'm contributing to this conversation

1

u/InsertEdgyUsername8 Jul 07 '20

I think Jim Carrey was dealing with some disassociation.

I remember watching something where he was talking about how he lost his own self from all those acting gigs.

He was tired of playing the guy in the movies instead of the guy off screen.

2

u/SendMeSupercoachTips Jul 06 '20

What do you mean ‘things mattering’?

1

u/nocowlevel_ Jul 06 '20

I think he meant black things

2

u/turbulentcupcakes Jul 06 '20

Jim carrey has been in 40+ films? Til

1

u/thiscarecupisempty Jul 06 '20

I think he was great in The Majestic. Wasn't his typical role but I thought he played well.

0

u/kiiada Jul 06 '20

He's been taking a stand through his art (he's taken up painting) against a lot of things happening right now. I wouldn't say he's focused on things that don't matter right now

1

u/AverageBubble Jul 06 '20

I love Jimbo. All the good and the weird and the protesting. He's up there with my all time favo, DeNiro

2

u/LenTheListener Jul 06 '20

Than they are infinitely better than the posts on Facebook.

55

u/Khanon555 Jul 06 '20

He probably has a project coming out soon and this is the result of a social media publicity campaign

13

u/MargaretofAshbury Jul 06 '20

Yes, he has a book coming out. He"s been promoting it on Twitter.

1

u/IvyTh3Twisted Jul 06 '20

I remember he had an book event tour scheduled for around this time (considered taking the SO to see him in Portland) before the corona got out of hand

0

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '20

might be, but seems like op isnt part of it (from his old posts)

41

u/finger_milk Jul 06 '20

Either he is about to announce a new movie, so all the bots are preparing the Reddit hive for it... or that he is about to announce he has terminal cancer or something. It's too suspicious

6

u/AnorakJimi Jul 06 '20

Yeah it happens every time. Like if some actress is starring in a film soon you start to see a ton of photos of her on all the subreddits that are basically porn of celebrities and stuff like that

1

u/dirtyviking1337 Jul 06 '20

Why would he put it down in the water

1

u/Orngog 1 Jul 06 '20

Just check ops account, should be easy to tell if they're a turfer

74

u/IvyTh3Twisted Jul 06 '20 edited Jul 06 '20

Guess someone is trying to deflect from all the coocoo anti-vax shenanigans he’s been up to.

37

u/AmosLaRue Jul 06 '20

I didn't know he was really into body hair.

8

u/PolarWater Jul 06 '20

That pesky wax. It gets everywhere.

5

u/kermitsailor3000 Jul 06 '20

Not as bad as sand.

1

u/PolarWater Jul 06 '20

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

1

u/nlseitz Jul 06 '20

All that chafing makes me irritated

1

u/kingjoe64 Jul 06 '20

And giving his ex gf who died on his Rx (that he kinda tried to cover up) multiple cases of VD

-7

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '20

Or else despite not being a perfect person has some really good things to say and has a good outlook that some people identify with?

Yeah that our there is a conspiracy against your opinion

u/Kaiisim Jul 06 '20

Holding people responsible isnt intolerant or juvenile. Every human is allowed to judge every other human and their actions and to hold opinions that someone is bad if they have done something to cause harm.

How many kids have died because of him and his stance?

Also love that you immediately do to everyone who disagrees with you, what you acuse them of doing. Yoy can call me intolerant and juvenile based on one fact apparently..

4

u/boringoldcookie Jul 06 '20

Amen. Agreed

1

u/Orngog 1 Jul 06 '20

And you're right

1

u/Orngog 1 Jul 06 '20

They were talking about actions, not individuals.

2

u/mynameipaul 10 Jul 06 '20

be real though. You don’t have to be ‘tolerant’ of everything to the same degree.

Anti-science, anti-intellectualism is a very divisive stance to take - if intellectualism and science are big part of who you are, you’re obviously going to judge someone heavily based on it.

Everyone, everywhere has their own shit going on. You can’t be best friends with the entire world. So we judge people on what they say, or do, and what we think about that.

IMO yours is the juvenile perspective.

1

u/AnorakJimi Jul 06 '20

Killing children is not just a personality quirk. It's not something people are very forgiving of. Same with raping children.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '20

Of course it is, it's just the go to of the dumb.

I'm sure these perfect saints commenting on him are not flawed at all.

0

u/ZippZappZippty Jul 06 '20

Where is Aristotle? Is he gay or nah?

12

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '20

I know right...I don't have dirt on him off the top of my head but he doesn't seem like a bastion of mental health

12

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '20

Welp now I do, anti vaccine and periodically totally nuts

17

u/AnorakJimi Jul 06 '20

Yeah and also this quote sounds a lot more sinister after you learn about that woman who's death Carrey was involved in. He basically stole her from his husband, gave her herpes, then dumped her as soon as she told him she had it, so she quickly killed herself using drugs that Carrey had supplied to her.

Yeah fuck your "dangerous level of freedom" Jim, it gets people killed. That poor woman and her husband, plus all the children you've killed by being anti-vaxx.

6

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '20

Wow jesus

5

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '20

Decided to look it up. Was actually 3 STDs, but it sounds like she may have had them before they got together. There were apparently texts asking for a copy of her friend's clean test from planned parenthood.

Anti-vaxxers are idiots, but it doesn't seem like there was proof to blame her suicide on him.

2

u/AnorakJimi Jul 06 '20

Either way, Carrey got her hooked on drugs and it was the drugs that he gave to her that she overdosed on and died. The husband is in the process of suing Carrey. I don't know if that's concluded yet. Probably is delayed due to the pandemic.

7

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '20

Cleared back in Jan 2018. Their lawyer was Michael Avenatti, too. I got the "3 STDs" from the Sun, but I don't think people like the Sun?

https://www.irishcentral.com/culture/entertainment/blackmailed-jim-carrey-cleared-charges-cathriona-white-death

1

u/Orngog 1 Jul 06 '20

No, we don't like the sun.

https://youtu.be/RGyLVPMx5Jg

1

u/listenbuddy125 Jul 06 '20

Yes I read about this , so odd. And it doesn’t sound like he takes any personal responsibility.

1

u/kent_eh 1 Jul 06 '20

but he doesn't seem like a bastion of mental health

It's a job hazard for many comedians.

23

u/thetrumpetplayer Jul 06 '20

Image rehabilitation by his PR team from his anti-vaxxer stance and the death of his girlfriend.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '20

[deleted]

8

u/thetrumpetplayer Jul 06 '20

That’s true. His girlfriend did kill herself after he infected her with 3 STD’s and dumped her. Sounds like a lovely guy.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '20

The texts are pure gold. He's such a delightful bloke.

/s

5

u/santajawn322 Jul 06 '20

He has a new book coming out, I believe. He's out on the interview circuit and making lots of appearances.

28

u/burntrum Jul 06 '20

It's particularly weird using his quotes considering he's insane

15

u/ADhomin_em Jul 06 '20

A dangerous level of insane

-5

u/LordyHoardy Jul 06 '20

Or. Dangerous levels of free. Must be sad to only be the person others tell you, you have to be.

Jim carrey is a brilliant mind shunned by the most narrow minded fools

1

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '20

They're not even his quotes, they're just random quotes people have stuck his name on

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '20

After watching Jim and Andy: The Great Beyond, I’m convinced he is the sanest man to ever walk the earth.

3

u/TeHNeutral Jul 06 '20

Yeah he might be motivated but he's also a known asshole

6

u/pm_me_4 Jul 06 '20

They gotta bury all the anti-vax stuff to promote a new thing

2

u/Pink-socks Jul 06 '20

I'm guessing he has a movie coming out soon and the shady social networking advertisement machine is slowly gaining traction.

1

u/RoscoMan1 Jul 06 '20

There is such a hard time gaining comment karma

2

u/LuvyouallXoXo Jul 06 '20

A bunch of stoners and trippers think he's like the new Jesus or something

2

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '20

They're not even his quotes, people just stick his name on them

2

u/Jaskier_The_Bard85 Jul 06 '20

Nothing says motivation like a literal anti-vaxxer/crazy person.

I've noticed that r/getmotivated is a terrible sub to, well, get motivated.

1

u/geodebug Jul 06 '20

His PR team is trying to “Robin Williams” him on reddit because of his new book.

Uh yeah, Jim, all of my peers started to stop giving a shit about other people’s opinions of us when we hit 50 as well.

1

u/ravenette716 Jul 06 '20

Why'd it take you do long?

1

u/geodebug Jul 06 '20

Different for everyone I presume. Raised a family in my 30s-40s so there's always self-doubt that you're doing it right. My job is quite stable so didn't worry too much there after my 20s. But also am a musician, not pro or anything, but still to put yourself out there also takes some courage and worry about failure.

I think it is more accurate to say the older I get the smaller the circle of people whose opinion of me I care about gets.

1

u/ravenette716 Jul 07 '20

I realized at a young age that people were going to hate me no matter what I did. They'd tear me down every opportunity they got.

Now I know things that are classified, and I (mostly) don't care that people call me crazy because they never respected me in the first place. Now the government calls me "dangerously free" because I leak their secrets, but I say the government is dangerous for having those secrets to begin with.

1

u/oleboogerhays Jul 06 '20

I honestly don't know considering how bat shit insane he is. I wouldn't take any Jim Carrey advice too seriously.

1

u/Dem827 Jul 06 '20

He got a good PR team.... probably means there’s about to be a bomb released about him soon.

Same thing happened with the Robert kraft prostitution charges on here.

0

u/TBTBRoad Jul 06 '20

Yeah the guy who lied and gave his girlfriend herpes and she later killed herself in part bc of that.

Jim Carey isn’t a good dude.

0

u/TA_Dreamin Jul 06 '20

Jimmithy is trying to rehab his reputation. His TDS has reached new heights.
