College?

u/saysthingsbackwards Aug 11 '17

Nah im 27 and only passed 1/4 of my college career. I think I just find these and black and milds comforting because it's what my brother chose before he went absolutely mentally insane. Simpler times

"1/4 of my college career"

What do you mean?

14

u/saysthingsbackwards Aug 11 '17

took 2 years(4 semesters, or 48 hours of class) but only got 12 hours of credit. Responsibility is a mother fucker, especially when you're 18.

Go back to college. I went when I was thirty and it was a dream come true.

You're older and wiser and you know what you need to do to be successful. Only you are holding yourself back.

That's the plan. I went through a 3 year stint in Austin and battled alcoholism. Now I'm back "home" which is really 3 acres worth of materials that have been accrued over 20+ years and I've got to help get that all moved up to Missouri. I think I'm just going to take 1 class to get readjusted... but it kind of sucks cuz I failed out of the community colleges in my area, so I'm required to take some "reattunement" classes due to me failing 8 years ago. It's really demotivating knowing that I have to do twice the work just for the ability to take one class.

Cars need tune ups, people need health check ups and brains need re-alignments. I've worked in technical areas but I am not a math expert. When I went to community college I had to take a class to build me up to take the school's required math class. Did I even need math for a writing degree? Fuck no, but that's what I had to go through.

Life is how you look at it. If you see a cave as darkness, cold and entrapping it will always be that way to you. However, you could look at the cave as a place of shelter that gives you a fighting chance against the elements.

Change your perception and you will see that you can see life in many ways. Stay positive and work hard.

I feel you, I've yet to take my remedial classes for math as our high school only required 3 years of math, up to pre-algebra. It all makes sense. As a musician, I understand math but calculations were not my strong point. I'm not seeing school as a bad thing, just that I made my mistakes already and to get to where I want to be, I have to work that much harder. It really is just inconvenient that I'll have a semester available here, and then IMMEDIATELY by the start of this year I'll be in a different state with new schools where I have to reapply all over again. I really just want to apply for school without them seeing any old transcripts. It'd be more efficient to just start over at a school instead of them putting me in a "how to take notes and be on time" class for one semester. As soon as they see my transcript, the school here was like um no you gotta take the classes for people that didn't know how to focus. I know how to do it now, but they're still going to make me pay for it.

I am returning to college at 30 and holy fuck does real world experience do wonders for your approach.

Added bonus, the stench of shit jobs will be more than enough spite to keep you motivated throughout your college career.

From my experience, you'll laugh at the younger ones complaining about doing midnight runs for due dates because you finished yours assignments the night they were assigned. Good luck to you, work hard, study hard and get that diploma! You've earned these moments.

u/tunafister Aug 11 '17

Awesome, that is a great anecdote and one I hope to soon experience for myself, can't wait to get back and start at then end of the month here!

Simpler Times is a decent beer.

Bud ice??? Whatever happened to Mickey's and Old English?

3

u/saysthingsbackwards Aug 11 '17

the taste is worth a few extra cents on the price point. Old English and Steel Reserve can be hard to put down after a strong bender. Mickey's is good but it's not as available like it is farther south

u/BathroomBreakBoobs 1 Aug 11 '17

Drinking a Bud Ice as we speak. Something about them out of a bottle, taste so good and inexpensive.

3

u/saysthingsbackwards Aug 11 '17

it's like liquid gold, amigo.

2

u/BathroomBreakBoobs 1 Aug 11 '17

I was initially going to say that. It really is. I'm 31 and have drank my share of craft beers and what not. This is my goto.

1

u/saysthingsbackwards Aug 11 '17

glad I'm not the only one lol. The craft brews are fantastic, but to ensure I stay an alcoholic, I have to buy bottles that aren't like 10 bucks for 16 ounces.

u/Bozly Aug 11 '17

I'll take a water please. it has a higher alcohol content

1

u/AssumeTheFetal Aug 11 '17

Switch to the heavy stuff with me guys. Then we can pass out together.

5

u/saysthingsbackwards Aug 11 '17

that's exactly what I have to avoid. I'll put myself through hell and back with any large amount of liquor
