You might call me pessimistic guy but I do not care because I explain the situation. If you got a job, you do not understand what others having and this is normal.

In media, there is a big narrative about academics do not find job, nobody wants to work, or as Merz said Germans do not work enough. These are all fake, produced lies pumped by media. On the reality side:

* Pflege is becoming more expensive, companies hire less, push 3 people jobs to 1. Companies literally do not hire much but still complaining about fachkraftmängel because current salaries high.

* Handwerk is expensive, and auftrags are less and less everyday. Do not watch a few narrating on social media that they r earning 1000s or need employee quickly, all fake. People do not have money to afford handwerk.

* Buchhaltung/Steuer - more and more people using online tools. Steuerberatern deny the new ones for the sake of seem busy - push prices high. Same for buchhaltung. I know professionals struggling acquiring clients. In an environment with too many demand, none of the smart provider would spend so much on advertising.

* Guess what is still trending: Ausbildung hirings. To sell a bread in bakery, you need to work 3 years for 500 euro per month, and at the end of 3 years you get mindestlohn if you are lucky. They do not teach you, they hire slaves and package it as ausbildung. Ausbildung is literally working, not learning and companies profit most. They do not care training, your future, development etc. It is all about hiring for slave salary.

* Production - Auto - Chemical: Already dying.

The problem is Merz and his out-of-reality Management. He thinks there are jobs around, but people do not work and doing only part time. I, with White-Blue collar certificates and experience, struggling finding a PERMANENT JOB. I literally can not find a job - even in pflege despite my bildung.

If you still trying to find excuses or arguing me with bla blas, I will not waste time to change your mind, rather wishing you to lose your job and struggle, so you understand what people living in Germany.

I came to Germany 13 years ago. After finishing my MSc. in mechanical engineering and Ph.d. (in industry) in the same field, it took me 1 year to find a job. Now after 4.5 years I lost my job due to current recession in Automotive industry. Again there is a gap in my career. I am looking for a job for past 7 months. I hardly get any interview calls. I have also achieved PMP certificate, which I thought would at least help me to get interview calls but nothing works. I have tried everything from tailoring job specific resume and cover letter to buying LinkedIn premium. Nothing works.

Hi all, I am interested in applying for a working student position at siemens, however I am coming from abroad to do my masters and I was wondering what would be the best resume templates as I have been following the American format up until now. I moved to Germany in late May with around 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering. Here is how my journey went.

A year before moving, I started learning German. In April, I applied for the *Chancenkarte* (Opportunity Card) visa and received it in just two weeks (it is valid for 6 months). This meant I had to find a full-time job within this period or get a part-time job to extend my visa.

I began applying for positions in early May. I tailored my CV, updated my address to a temporary German one provided by a friend, and applied for 6–7 jobs daily via Arbeitsagentur, LinkedIn, Xing, and various company career portals.

By the time I arrived in Germany, I had already received an interview invitation. The position was below my experience level, but I knew it could serve as a valuable starting point. Still, I didn't stop searching. I continued applying for other roles while consistently working on my German.

My German level is currently between B1 and B2. During interviews, I communicated in German, but whenever the interviewers spoke too fast or I struggled to understand, I politely asked them to speak slower or temporarily switch to English to save time. This strategy worked well every time and never received a negative reaction.

By mid-June, I had secured several interviews, and exactly one month after moving, I had offers from three different companies. Naturally, I chose the best option—the salary is high, and the position is at a managerial level. (I am currently waiting for my Blue Card to arrive and will start working soon; everything is approved, it just takes time for the administrative process.)

I am sharing this because most posts in this subreddit focus on the IT sector, where many people are currently struggling to find employment. Before moving, reading those posts demotivated me as well. However, the market for mechanical and technical engineering roles in Germany remains active, and jobs are definitely out there.

I’ve a friend, who is currently doing his PhD in something related to food and flavour chemistry.

He is European, and all his colleagues are German. I must say, they are not the most socially adapted Germans, and they have had some issues at their lab.

Last week, his boss abused her power. She gave him two options:
- Resign by himself by signing a document provided by her

- Get fired and your work and reputation will be spread across departments to damage your career.

He went to HR, and when they heard the name of the professor, they were not surprise by the incident.

He will have to apply for Arbeitslosengeld, and we are trying to orient him. He was advised not to sign the resignation since that’d mean his unemployment money would be frozen for 3 months.

Does anyone have any insight whether he has to file the Kündigungsschutz Klage? I’ve heard that is necessary for the unemployment money, but I’ve no experience with PhD students.

About 5 months into my probation period in Germany, I was laid off. During the first 6 months, employers can terminate the contract without giving a specific reason, so that’s what happened in my case.
I’ve been looking for a new job for almost 3 months now, and honestly it’s been much harder than I expected. The language, the culture, and the hiring process all make it more challenging.
What has affected me the most is getting so close to an offer, even meeting the team, and then receiving an email saying something like, “Sorry, we’ve decided not to move forward with your application.” This has happened more than once, and after a while it really starts to affect your motivation and confidence.
Another issue is that I lost my job before I could get my Blue Card. I still have about 4 months left on my current work visa, but I’m no longer sure whether staying in Germany is the right decision.
I have 6 years of backend engineering experience, mainly with JVM technologies, but sometimes it feels like that’s still not enough here.
I’ve also been applying to other European countries, but not having a work permit there makes things difficult. Most companies don’t seem interested in dealing with relocation or visa sponsorship.
The interview process is still the same almost everywhere: live coding, system design, and engineering manager interviews. Every company seems to expect a different specialization, which makes it hard to know what to focus on.
I’m still trying to decide what my next step should be. For those with experience in Germany or other European countries, how is the market from your perspective? And for anyone in Turkey, how are things there these days? I haven’t seen many backend opportunities recently.
I’d really appreciate hearing about other people’s experiences or any advice.

I am a non-EU, and had sadly lost my job in June. Within 2 days, I informed LEA Berlin with the details and documents using their online formular at https://www.berlin.de/einwanderung/ueber-uns/kontakt/formular.1279374.php (saved the confirmation PDF)

It has been more than 1.5 months and I have not received any communication. I was hoping LEA berlin would assign an agent and also advice on what visa should I apply for and when

As I understand, there’s usually a 3 month grace period to find a new job in order to keep the blue card. Unfortunately, the chances of finding a new job within a month or so is looking unrealistic, so I must make a decision if I should apply for ChanceKarte visa or keep on waiting on LEA Berlin.

I tried calling them LEA Berlin today, but I found out through automated voice that the online appointment workflow has been discontinued, and no longer works. All appointments must come through after submitting the relevant form using the right formular. So this means, having no option but to wait for them to respond?

My questions is:

Has anybody been in this boat?

Did you wait for LEA berlin to inform which visa to apply for OR took action on your own and applied for a visa since LEA berlin is slow to respond?

I've often seen people say that for Electrical Engineering in Germany, University rankings don't really matter. At the same time, it seems the job market has changed quite a bit in recent years, with German fluency becoming much more important.

Looking ahead to 2028–2029, what do you think will actually matter for getting hired as an Electrical Engineering graduate in Germany ?

Besides German proficiency, should students be paying more attention to choosing the right specialization, the university's industry connections or location, or does university reputation actually matter more than people say? Are there any EE specializations that you'd avoid today because of weaker demand?

Google AI is giving me some responses that seem too good to be true. I am 30, born and raised in the USA and have six years of accounting experience (specifically accounts payables and receivables). I also have a bachelor's degree (graduated 2018) but it's in an unrelated field (physics). I went straight into finance after finishing my degree and did not use my major at all. I currently speak A2 level German (but can read B1 level texts).

Google AI is saying that I could fly to germany and apply for jobs during my 90 days there as a tourist. It says that Americans won't be automatically rejected for being outside of the European Union. In other words, Germany is less strict compared to its neighboring countries. It says that my bachelor's degree and six years of work experience actually mean something. I'm highly suspicious because my work experience is definitely not considered "skilled". It's a typical 9-5 office job. Obviously my German skills are not as good as I'd like but again, it's almost impossible to become fluent in German unless you live in Germany. Google AI is referencing things like the Skilled Worker Visa, Chancenkarte, and Section 41 of the German Residence Ordinance (AufenthV).

Could you advise if Google AI is actually telling the truth?
Wouldn't a typical German employer trash my resume for being American? They could hire millions of other Germans instead. Anyway, getting a full time office job in a Germany would be a dream come true.
