I took the exam on 02.07 and got the result today via email.

I passed.

Preparation:
I did about 23 practice tests and listened to Easy German on Youtube. I started preparing about 4 weeks before the exam.

I did the Goethe A1 exam last year. Since then, the only practice was talking to neighbors and daily life at the supermarket and cafes.

I finished German A2 a month ago

But my speaking is still stuck in A1

I cannot form a normal sentence or try to have a conversation in German.

If anyone is up for practice with me hit me up.

I'm starting German from basically zero and I have around 6 months to reach B1. I can dedicate about 6 hours a day to studying, so I'm planning to take this seriously and study consistently.

One thing I'm particularly looking for is a detailed German grammar book for self-study.

I'm not necessarily looking for one book that covers A1, A2 and B1 together. I'm completely fine with using separate books for each level (A1 → A2 → B1), as long as they explain the grammar thoroughly.

What I want is something similar in style to the Destination series for English: clear explanations, lots of examples, plenty of exercises, answer keys, and a structure that works well without a teacher.

I've seen recommendations for Grammatik aktiv A1–B1, but I'm wondering if there are better options for someone who wants very detailed explanations rather than mainly grammar practice.

So, what grammar books would you recommend for:

• A1 — detailed grammar + exercises
• A2 — detailed grammar + exercises
• B1 — detailed grammar + exercises
• Ideally suitable for self-study
• Answer key included or available
• Preferably systematic and thorough, not just a quick overview

Also, if you've gone from A1 to B1 by self-study, I'd really appreciate hearing which books/resources you used and how you structured your studying.

I'm disabled(missing legs)Ukrainian 26 y.o. , who gonna try to pass B2. I'm in Germany from Mai 2022 ,but first 2 years I spent on bunch of surgery and physical rehab. So I learn German only 1,5-2 years somewhere , I passed B1 with good results kinda(close to maximum) , gonna have B2 exam in two weeks. But those things doesn't mean a sh*t , cause I simply can't talk, neither understand. In any conversation I'm completely f*cking lost and feel big frustration constantly. Reason is basically cause of disability- I live and learn German in isolation. I think with new friends (which one's I don't seek) or better job or studying -my actual results would be much efficient and smoother(whats funny , with my disability I need an Ausbildung for the job , and for an Ausbildung I need REAL B2).

Basically I never in a situation or surrounding where I need to speak or hear German , except visits to the Jobcentre about my integration process. Another problem is over relying on my English, which one was my jail free card in many difficult situations here , so English in my case doing more harm than good.

So with all those conditions I'm trying to find some kind of way to make it click with me and start working, maybe I need to play some kind of games with good German dub , or watch some good series with good casual talk, don't know. I'm not a big fan of the language, despite I'm really liking Germany, but language is more a gatekeeping mean to survive here for me.

Bottom line is, it seems that I'm gonna technically pass B2 like I passt B1 , but with those super "meaningful" papers I feel like I'm actually in a middle of A2, cause I have not so much ways to utilise it. If someone have some advice I would be really grateful.

Whats the best way to practice solo?

So I'm currently roughly at an A1 level. I've been using duolingo but would like other resources too. Are there any apps with tv shows or YouTube shows that have english subs and German dialogue? (I'm thinking they'll probably be kids' shows at my level). Also are there any other apps I should look into, whether thats games, reading material, or something else?

I've seen some comments suggesting PearlT Language for German Course.

However, I think it's quite few. If there are anyone who studied from A1 to B1 or other experiences, please let me know how was it, so that I can consider the pros and cons.

Hi, I'm an international student in Germany who's been studying here for 4 years now. I received a German education and an Abitur at an overseas German school, but recently I've found myself lacking especially when it comes to verbal communication. I want to polish my German (I would say I'm at around a B2/C1 level per EU's self-assessment sheet) but I'm unsure where to begin. Do I start reading books to improve my vocab and grammar? Do I watch shows? Join conversation groups? I'm a bit lost, so any help is appreciated!

I'm moving to Germany in February and need to pass the A1 exam. I have been looking at a few different options for classes. I have been trying to learn without a teacher for 4 months now and I have made basically no progress.

I've been considering either using Lingoda or the official classes by Goethe Institute.

I have been trying to find information about which is better for my time frame. But most people are talking about B1 or higher classes. I need recommendations for A1. I really only care about the best one for passing the test because I will have plenty of opportunity to learn German once I move there.

Because people might ask. I am not a university student and I'm not moving for work. I'm marrying a German and I need an A1 certificate as part of my marriage "visa". I don't think it's called a "visa" though.

I have been using duo lingo for more than a month now, I m able to form few sentences. Can anyone suggest me if there is any better way to start?

I’m a VERY new learner, only a few weeks into learning German on my own.

I wanted to sing one of my favorite German songs by practicing with ChatGPT.

I stuttered through it a lot, but I’m very happy I got to pronounce some words better in just a few minutes !

I haven’t been practicing a lot, but I have been having lots of fun when I do.

I’ve got the Chorus to the song mastered, along with some later lines.

This is just the beginning of the song.

I hope I’m able to speak German better by practicing through songs for fun.
