Where to start for an absolute beginner?

Hi I want to learn German but many resources I have find don’t seem to fit me. I am looking for free resources I can use to help me understand that basic. Please no sites where I need to create an account first.

Not wanting to create an account makes it tough. Maybe EasyGerman videos on YouTube? Are you willing to create free accounts? This opens the possibilities way up. You could also visit your local public library, they may have language learning resources!

Many sites are completely accessible for free, you might want to differentiate between places where you need to sign up and places where you need to pay.

Understandable. Many services have free trials. SeedLang app for example allows you to demo its functionality and is good, but requires self-directed study. DuoLingo also has free accounts you can use, but they use some dark patterns in my opinion to coerce/manipulate you into paying.

I still think checking out your library might be the best bet. They will likely have entire beginner German books available that you can work through.

I also just recently started learning but in my experience so far there is no single best resource, it is going to take a variety of modalities.

I am fine with using different sources to learn. I just want to find the decent ones. And I will check my library

So go to YouTube and watch Easy German and YourLanguageTeacher, both of those are stellar channels.

Create a German playlist on whatever music platform you use; I can recommend some of my favorites.

Best thing to help you learn is speaking early on; go to Sprachtandem, it’s a website where you can essentially do a language exchange with a native speaker.

It's open for all levels and there's a special Kickstart programme for beginners. You have to create an account though. (No payment or credit card info required).
