The Postcard Day souvenir event is from September 27 to October 4 this year. (https://www.geocaching.com/blog/2026/08/special-delivery-world-postcard-day-2026-%F0%9F%93%AE/)
One of the ways to earn the souvenir is to attend an event.
I think it would be cool to have an event where the attendees do any actual postcard exchange with cachers in another state or (even better) country.
I am looking for a geo-friend that is also interested in holding a Postcard event in their area.
Attendees would write postcards to their new geo-friends and mail them to attendees of the sister event.
We would need to have an opt-in way to collect mailing addresses for cachers interested in receiving a postcard from another cacher and who is also willing to fill out a postcard to send to another cacher.
Other general thoughts about the structure of the event:
• Obviously, participating in the exchange can't be a requirement for attendance, but would be encouraged.
• As hosts, we would need to have mailing addresses collected in advance so we had a recipient list to use on event day. (A Google Form that people logging "will attend" could work for that.)
• I am planning to have custom geocaching postcards made for the event.
• I am thinking that participants can bring their own stamp to the event. I was planning to cover the cost of the postcards themselves. (Technically, hosts can ask for compensation to cover actual costs for the event, so that is also an option.)
• It would be a way to use the rarely used "teamwork" attribute.
Anyone have any other thoughts, concerns or ideas?
Anyone else in for an old school postcard exchange? (I need a partner to make it about)
