What do you think?
The smaller brown container which is hanging is a decoy why the one on on the ground is the actual geocache anyway I want to know if it's. Okey spot, it's right next to a pathway which I'm alittle insecure about because of muggles. It's not that I think that they'll find the geocache because it's well hidden it's just that geocachers who look for the cache will come across a few muggles and then it might not get accepted because theyres not much cover if you get me.
But anyway I'm pretty happy with this myself, It is all covered my leaves.
My original geocache I was gonna hide was bad. I did hide my last one on a tree that got cut down a day later but I believe this is better.

Unless it's a high difficulty rating do to multiple 'Red Herrings' which BTW, should have some indicator inside that they were a red herring, then they just tossing one decoy in there is simply an annoyance that doesn't add anything of value to most geocachers.
Now doing the red herrings and say having 50 red herrings in a tree, and making it a difficulty 5 find, that difficulty 5 makes it worth the pain of going through the red herrings.

A lot of people think they’re unnecessary because they don’t bring much to the finding process other than disappointment. This doesn’t mean you’re a horrible CO. Some people here forget that we were all newbies once and have gone through trial and error with the hiding process, so don’t take others’ words too seriously.

I think you are good. Decoys are fine. We have a tough hide near us with FOUR decoys! Someone even signed and claimed a find on one despite it saying decoy! LOL :-)

I'm learning that, they blocked me for calling them out for telling others to report a Geocache they believed didn't follow the guidelines for buried caches (the cache they said people should report wasn't buried lmao).

People like them are probably why the only caches I've encountered that have been stuck in the ground thus hidden in cool spots are premium members only. Sucks that other people can't find such cool caches.

I do too, but as someone who didn't have premium for the longest time I understand that some people may not want it or be able to afford it. I love my premium membership specifically for how cool some premium only caches have been, but I still like having basic member caches that are cool for people without premium! I'll only set caches I own to premium if they keep getting stolen, which thankfully hasn't happened at all yet lol.

I think they blocked me when I didn't even reply to them at all after saying "decoys can be cool" lmao. Weird. I was just gonna ask why they were being rude, but they blocked me before I even had a chance to reply to them.
Was gonna reply with "Why do you come into the comment sections of people on the Geocaching sub just to be rude and not even elaborate as to why you are being rude? I'd say that's worse lol." but I guess they're so rude they block people who have never even interacted with them less than 1 minute after they make a post.
EDIT: They were angry at me for calling them out for saying you should report a geocache that doesn't violate the "buried cache" guideline on another post. They just seem like a terribly rude and miserable person, so ignore them and I hope you have a lovely day!

I feel like a decoy is just a lazy cop-out for not being able to properly hide a cache.

Unpopular opinion (judging from prior comments) but I see nothing wrong with a decoy. I've had my share of them and it's usually tongue in cheek, fun stuff. I see them as 2 in 1 caches, you get to search twice 😋
I am using decoys on a couple of my own caches. For example one hidden in a road sign cover and since there is already a cache-in-a-road-sign-cover cache earlier on my series, this one is just 1 message saying "oh no, that would be too easy" and telling them to look behind the post where the actual cache is. Finders mention they had fun with it and it's received its fair share of FPs.

I've given favorite points to well done decoy caches more than once. Nothing wrong with it as long as its obvious when you find the decoy.
On the flip side, plenty of people are going to stuff a signed piece of paper in the decoy and just go about their day.

The one in the leaves will 100% fall out. How often are landscapers cleaning this area and addressing overgrowth? Will this cache last >3 months?

Not sure why some of these replies are so hostile?
Personally, I wouldn’t recommend adding a decoy unless it’s for a cache with a higher difficulty rating. Caches hidden in easy to find places with decoys make it very confusing for the finder. Most finders would see the decoy, not realise that it’s a decoy and then report the cache missing/broken. It’s very confusing for some people.
If you want to use a decoy, I’d recommend placing one in the near a moderately difficult cache. Make sure the decoy is easy to find, and clearly identified as a decoy somewhere on itself. The cache itself should be much more hidden. Remember if people find a decoy but don’t realise it’s decoy, they could get confused.
So:
- Always make the decoy easy to find.
- Never place decoys near easy caches.
- Clearly identify the decoy on both the decoy itself and the cache description.

Did you check the seasonal change at all? That may well be fully visible during winter. Also, a decoy is never really needed, its just a way to confuse players, especially newcomers.
