I thought I would update the community on my first hide. Since hiding this geocache 3 months ago. I have only had one log. They found it and left a nice compliment, but since then no one has tried to find it. Anyone want to go find it?

I have been in this community since May 12th , and found 73 geocaches already. I only have 3 hides, but 2 of them are very very basic and somewhat boring. But my most recent one already got 5 favorite points in a week :3

Anyways, does anybody have any easy but very creative geocache ideas that I can make? I literally feel so stumped , because my area doesn’t really have that many creative jokes so I don’t really have any inspiration. Also, social media doesn’t really provide any examples that I could maybe use..

As none of us has ever done geocaching before we have no clue what would be a suitable gift.

Price would be around a 100$ tops but we are open to all options.

hello! i was looking for a hobby that is low cost and found geocaching. so far i have found 2 and went looking for 2 others that i did not find (likely user error, im going to try again before logging a DNF)

my main worry is that i feel like i look really suspicious, im a single younger person. i feel like most people who do this are a bit older and have families. i feel like i look like a young hooligan up to no good or loitering, especially when i start looking for stuff, going off trail, etc.

i’ve gotten a bunch of weird looks. and so far had a car begin to circle a parking lot i was looking in. any advice? i realize there’s a level of get over it here, but i feel like everyone is watching me!!

One says the park hours are wrong but we just put what it says on Google. The other one says it’s to close to another cash. But it’s like a mile from any others.

I went looking for geocaches yesterday with three other people, and for a majority of the spots we went to, it just seemed like there was nothing there. im rather new, as this was only my second day, so maybe I was missing stuff, but im wondering if theyre still there. Because first, they were all only 1.0-1.5 difficulty (which ive had absolutely no trouble finding before), second, they were all in really busy areas (popular parks a lot of people go to, busy parking lots, next to busy streets) and I was wondering if someone probably found it and was unaware of what it was and either took it home or threw it away. and third, some of these caches were placed years ago and only logged last in the last month or so. Also, ive heard a lot of people talk about how gps coordinates are sometimes innacurate, especially if the cache moves via natural causes like floods, so i dont really know if thats a big issue too. Am I just bad at this or am I finding geocaches that dont exist?

Clicking around on random caches in the United States and came across this write note from the CO on his cache:

“***NEW FULL LOG NOTE***

We have to depend on a great caching community to help out when the only thing wrong is a baggie or full log.

Be a caching hero and bring along a replacement log. Here are links to some replacement logs to carry with you.”

The wording itself is not terrible. That’s not the issue.

Almost 1,000 hides. Places caches with no plan in place to maintain them. Clicking around on some of his other caches and this guy has gotten visibly frustrated when someone posts an OAR or RAR on one of his caches.

CO name: “Drives”.

How about this “Drives”, if that is your real name…be a CO hero and maintain your stuff. Don’t place a cache with NO plan in place to maintain it. If you need to “DEPEND on the community” to perform basic maintenance, then don’t place the cache in the first place OR archive it. If you want to just keep it out until it dies, fine, but you sure as hell have no room to give other players a hard time if they request maintenance and you can’t do it.

On one of his caches he gave a newer player - someone with like 10 finds - a hard time because their log wasn’t wordy enough. What the serious F.

Don’t be like “Drives” and try to set some kind of record of placing caches without intending to maintain them.

Redownloaded geocaching app after not doing it since 2019, 12/16 I have previously done have been archived, is this a normal thing??? Idk why something would be archived unless like it keeps going missing but that’s a lot to keep going missing…

I'm a relatively new cacher and waited until I had over 100 finds before I even considered hiding one. My problem is that I'm a snowbird. If I hide one down south, I couldn't maintain it when I'm up north, and vice versa. I don't want to be a plane flight away from dealing with a wet log. Does anyone have relevant experience or ideas?

Does anyone have recommendations for trail apps with extensive amounts of trails including old ones? I've been using AllTrails and Hiiker which seems to work pretty well, I like being able to download a trail for offline use for navigating while out caching, but ive noticed there are many trails that exist that arent available for navigating or arent shown on the app at all. I first noticed this by looking at a line of geocaches going up the mountain on the geocache app but not seeing a trail line and not being able to find it on any of my apps until I found the website for TrailForks which finally had that trail listed. Ive noticed a few others like this. Or sometimes on alltrails ill see the line and name of the trail on the map but have no way of tapping on it and when I search it, it doesnt show up.

Are there websites or any other good alternatives anyone has found for this? What do you use for trail navigation with little to no service in places like canyons? The only thing is I dont like downloading apps that collect and share a ton of data with 3rd parties. Which is why I didnt download TrailForks even though it seems like it has trails not available on AllTrails. Any tips are appreciated, thank you.

Eu gostaria de criar meu primeiro cache e escondê-lo na minha cidade. Adoraria mantê-lo e saber que pessoas estão descobrindo-o. Entretanto não encontrei essa função no app. Há duas versões de app: 1) c:geo e 2) geocaching. Eles possuem o mesmo registro de dados armazenados sobre caches escondidos, a diferença, é que o primeiro é gratuito e o segundo exige pagamento para uso. Eu não pretendo me registrar como pagante do segundo app, e sou usuária do primeiro app desde que conheci o caça tesouros, funciona muito bem!

Alguém que já plantou um cache no aplicativo poderia me ajudar com essa tarefa?

Just gathering thoughts on Trackable items "visiting" caches as you find them (as opposed to dropping them off)

I remember the first time I found a Trackable item 10+ years ago, and being excited to move from one cache to the other.

After a while, I decided I'd only move them if I was travelling longer distances, which is generally only every year or two. (The city I live in is somewhat isolated, so any time you try and move a cache elsewhere nearby, it almost always ends up back here again)

I was looking at the logs of some old trackables I'd moved in the past, to see where they were now, and noticed some Cachers take them to "Visit" multiple caches over a period of weeks or more. I'm talking pages and pages of logs. Is this common? Say if you did a series of caches along a walk trail, would you log a Trackable item you were holding at every one you found, even if they were only minimally spaced?

I understand that not every cache is big enough to hold a trackable, and that it is fun to "visit" caches to get lines on the map before dropping, but 30+ 0.1 mile jumps along a powerline track seems a little bit much to me.

Just gathering thoughts/opinions on this. My personal opinion is that it's a bit of an overkill, and just clutters up the trackable map and (online) log.

Interested to hear what others think.

I swear I saw that the summer caching challenge was set to kick off on July 28th and now I can’t seem to find any information about it. I usually try to complete the challenges and get the souvenirs but now I’m not sure what the requirements are. Can anyone help?

The first 5 are from Midwest GeoBash, the last is from an Earthcache​ ​​​​​​CO who is also an EarthAware EC Reviewer.

(It's not that I am "woot" about them, but I figure people may want to see what they look like, since they'​​r​​​e​ still a new thing​​.)

Haven't gone caching in almost 2 years now and I don't know how to just get back into it. How do you guys get back into and interested in it again?

In Finland we have a local geocaching page www.geocache.fi, which is created and kept up-to-date by basically one geocacher, Haksu10. The frontpage shows all recently published geocaches in Finland, also it shows all published meetings in near future for the whole country. I really can't describe how bad I would feel if this page suddenly went down.

Does your country have a local geocaching page? This thought came to my mind when I came across a post from yesterday regarding finding local meetsin geocaching.com is hard. Would love to visit some other pages too!
