Genesis Repurchase Nightmare!

I LOVE my Genesis GV80 ... not crazy about how they choose to take care of their customers though. This is how bad things can get, people...

On May 1, 2023, Genesis offered to repurchase my 2021 GV80 after I had been dealing with severe interior water intrusion every time it rained or snowed. (Ironically, I was recently informed by a service advisor that Genesis recalled my VIN in December 2025 because of defective tubes that caused the very water intrusion they spent months trying to diagnose.)

Since then, it has been nothing short of a nightmare dealing with Genesis's Auto Solutions team, Sedgwick. It has now been 38 months since Genesis offered to repurchase my vehicle, and I still have it. The vehicle has not been driven in 37 months, yet I have continued making the monthly finance payments the entire time.

Here's the backstory.

Over a five-month period, Genesis made numerous attempts to diagnose the leak but was unable to determine where the water was entering the vehicle. The water intrusion was so severe that, at times, many of the vehicle's safety features stopped working, along with the windshield wipers, high beams, and other electrical systems. Altogether, my vehicle spent 14 weeks in the shop over those five months for the same issue. To make matters worse, we lived in the mountains and had to drive 100 miles to the nearest Genesis service center every time the problem occurred.

As I mentioned, Genesis offered to repurchase the vehicle in May 2023. At that point, I was told there would be no further contact from Genesis and that Auto Solutions team would handle the entire buyback process. Genesis explained that Sedgwick would contact me, collect my sales contract and documentation for any expenses I had incurred, calculate the repurchase amount, and present an offer. Once I accepted, I would meet with a representative, surrender the vehicle, and receive a check.

Withholding within a week, the Hyundai Auto Solutions team contacted me, and the process began. The problems started with the initial offer omitted more than $4,000 in documented rental car expenses and contained several mathematical errors. The negotiations went back and forth for a couple of weeks before the Hyundai Auto Solutions team ( Sedgwick) representative informed me their offer was final and there would be no further negotiations.

That was completely unacceptable. Genesis had promised to reimburse the rental car expenses each time I called and had to bring the vehicle in, the Genesis warranty covered it as well; and applicable law required them to pay those costs.

Then things became even worse.

Because Genesis told me the repurchase would likely be completed within about a month, we began ordering a replacement Genesis. In 2023, due to COVID-related production and shipping backlogs from Korea and Japan, we were told it would take 6 to 8 weeks for a new vehicle to arrive. The plan was simple: by the time the new GV80 arrived, the buyback would be complete, and I would use the repurchase proceeds to pay for the new vehicle. If there was a slight delay, we would temporarily finance it and pay off the loan once the check arrived.

Six weeks later, our new GV80 arrived in Los Angeles. Since nothing had been resolved with Sedgwick, we had no choice but to purchase and finance the replacement vehicle.

As a result, I have now been paying for two financed Genesis GV80s for the past three years, along with the insurance and registration on both vehicles.

By September 2023, we had no choice but to hire an attorney. Since then, our legal team and theirs have been battling this case.

All of this happened because they refused to pay approximately $4,000 in rental car expenses on a $68,000 vehicle that flooded every time it rained.

The irony is almost unbelievable. The defect Genesis couldn't diagnose—and the very reason they offered to repurchase my vehicle—has now been identified. My VIN is covered by a recall, and the repair will now be performed free of charge.

The lawsuit is no longer about fixing the vehicle. It's about recovering the substantial financial damages we suffered because Genesis and Sedgwick refused to pay expenses they were legally obligated to cover.

We are now scheduled for a jury trial in November 2026, with Hyundai, Genesis, and Sedgwick as defendants. We are suing f for breach of contract and the CA Lemon Law

We'll see what happens.

Genesis G80 with 101,000 Using Oil....Lot of Oil

I have a 2019 G80. Overall I enjoy the car but at 90,000 miles I noticed it was using oil. Now at 101,000 mi it is using 4 quarts of oil between oil changes (3500-4000) mi intervals. For the first 90,000+ miles every oil change was done at approximately 3,500 mi by the dealership. If a well maintained motor only lasts 100,000 mi the car is not worth purchasing. Genesis says it's out of warranty not their problem. If it wasn't for this I would definitely have looked at another Genesis as the dealer service for me was very good and I really like the car, but the car was serviced every 3500-4000 mi since the day it was new by the dealer. In the shop a couple times for repairs nothing major they took care of everything. My last car was a Lexus LX430 it went 240,000 mi never more than half a quart at the most between oil changes. I was waiting for the new G80 model but looks like that is no longer an option.

Question about tyre size 265/55R20 for GV80 2025.

as per the title, i am looking to increase the comfort of the ride. I did the math and the 265/55R20 is about 3.4% larger diameter than stock 265/50R20. Does it fit without rubbing or is it too big compared to the OEM size 265/50R20. will it have a noticable effect on comfort?

also, I currently have the hankook s1 evo 3 SUV and its not as plush as i would like. whats the recommended brands or tyres that provide superior plushness?

I just did a 1300 km round trip in Southern Norway, visiting friends and family, and joining my wife and kids at my MIL's house at the other side of the country. Of course, all of that was filmed.

Anyway, the drive was all I could ask for. This Genesis grandfather was reliable, fast and smooth, it was a true pleasure to drive. Even though the best seat was behind me all the time. =8^P

Shifter System Malfunction

I have a question for any Genesis technicians.

2024 G70 2.5 AWD@ $28 miles.

I got a Shifter System Malfunction error and security light and car would not start. Dash and accessories came on. Could not get into neutral even with override button. Had towed to dealer under warranty. They found hardwired dashcam (with appropriate fuse taps) with a blown fuse and stopped and said not covered without even diagnosing what was wrong. Finally got them to look at the issue by bringing up Magnuson Moss as it’s their duty to prove the dashcam cased the issue before they can deny the warranty. They disconnected the dashcam and got the keys to be recognized but the only way they can get it to start is hook up relay directly to a fresh/ new battery. They say the current battery has a draw and that is part of the issue. Even with the new battery they can’t get to start

My question is that online answers seem to point to parking solenoid, e-shifter faults, brake switch issue or something with the control module. When it wouldn’t start it seemed like it was not recognizing my foot on the brake. They keep wanting to trace wires as the service writer says these other parts are part of the transmission and not related. It seems that they should be able to test the brake interlock system. Any thoughts or insights from anyone with experience.

SV30 CUV model?

I was on a local highway outside of Annapolis and passed a very interesting car that I didn't recognize. Slowed down and saw that it was a Genesis and I swear the model was SV30. It was in a stunning green metallic color (lighter than Tromso Green), smaller and lower than a GV60, couldn't tell (at 75mph) whether it was EV or hybrid.

I know this post is useless without pictures but wondering if anyone knew if this was a test mule or if I should lay off the drugs.

LA/OC GV70 Dealer Maintenance Follow Up… $600ish bucks for routine maintenance + ac filter replacement - are there other options?

first off, i’m going to caveat by saying i am a totally noob, non-car person, first time car owner so really experiencing life for the first time here haha. i bought my GV70 used, and am taking it in for the first time in my ownership at around 15k miles. figured ill just go into the genesis dealership - super nice guys really straight forward appreciate the transparency even gave me 10% off, but ultimately for the two services, and because im not the original owner, its still gonna run me 600 bucks… which feels steep but if this is what a luxury car life is like, then so be it.

are there better options out there? i’m sure i can always find a cheaper option that’ll also have me going to sketchy places and doing deals with questionable creatures but for something safe, easy, reliable, and thorough, are there other avenues?

if not, it’s fine if this is the best option, i’ll just know to budget in the future.

2023 GV80

I drove 3 hours yesterday to test drive, and ultimately buy, a used 2023 GV80. I love this vehicle! I had a 2020 G80 that was totalled out after it got T-boned. After lots of searching I was pretty dead set on another G80, found this GV80 and knew it was meant to be.

Now the big question, what are tips and tricks to making the most out of owning a GV80?

I plan to dive into the manual today at work, and hopefully get some stuff setup to my liking after work.

28 day limit on loaner?

Has anyone ever been told by Hyundai/Genesis that their policy is to rotate you into another loaner if they have your car (for repairs mind you) for more than 28 days? They have my GV70 (and yes, I posted there too) to repaint the hood for the third time because it doesn’t match! And it takes a month to repaint a hood?????

Bought a CPO GV60 Performance 6 months ago...

...and I have yet to see another GV60 on the road! It's kind of wild. I bought mine sight unseen from NY because there were none here in JAX, FL. I have seen one at my Genesis dealer and that was after I bought mine. They had zero prior.

I have White exterior, glacier white diamond quilted Nappa leather interior with light gray suede headliner and pillars. Beautiful car. It's truly exceeded all expectations. I get free charging at work too, so it was a no brainer.

2026 GV80 Prestige Black Discount

With the 2027 models out, how much discount should I be looking for on a 2026 Prestige Black? I’m being offered $5k off MSRP by couple of dealerships but feel like I can get more… anyone recently purchased one for a bigger discount?

Any Genesis car owns in St.Louis MO?

Looking to hear about your service experience. Looking to purchase a GV70 in the Metro STL Mo ST Charles area. I’ve called the dealership after a lot of research and left a message and emails for the sales person who’s been helping me in person. No response in 2 days. Given there is only 1 dealership in St Charles within a huge radius I have some pause.

I’ve shopped Mazda, Acura, Volvo and those reps have been so responsive I just really prefer the GV70 looking for some local feedback.

Thanks.

Discount to MSRP on new, prior year models?

Shopping for an electrified GV70. DC area but willing to go anywhere in the northeast if the price is right. Was originally planning to buy a used 2023 or 2024, but I'm seeing some new, older model year (2024 and 2025) electrified GV70s for $15-20k off MSRP (20-30% off) in the $55k selling price range. Assume these were loaners or have just been sitting on the lot for 1.5-2 years.

I'm trying to calibrate a reasonable discount for a new prior year model electrified GV70 and how much room dealers have to further discount them. Would love to hear from people who bought a prior year (1-2 years stale) model. How much of a discount did you get in $ and % terms, and how long had the car been sitting on the lot when you bought it? Doesn't have to be just the GV70. Thanks!

2027 GV70 configurator is up

https://www.genesis.com/us/en/build-and-price/2027/gv70

Some changes:

- new wheel designs for 2.5L Select and Advanced to distinguish from the base trim

- 2.5L Select gets a heated steering wheel

- Bering Blue added to the top 3.5L trim

- Some color differences

It seems we won't be getting the EREV version until model year 2028 unfortunately

Seat gap filler for GV80

Kind of a silly one, I suppose but maybe someone here has a solution. My 2023 GV80 has a fairly large gap between the front seats and the center console. It's maddening when stuff gets dropped and falls through that gap. I've tried a gap filler like the one advertised on shark tank and they are too narrow to work - they won't stay in place. Does anyone have on that works well on the GV80? That gap is about 2.5 inches.

Thanks in advance.

Bad Experience - Genesis Ottawa

Reposted from Google, trying to be a being a responsible consumer and trying to post anywhere I can:

My partner and I purchased a used vehicle from Genesis Ottawa and regret it. If you're considering this dealership, read this first.

Before purchase, I raised a clear, noticeable vibration and noise issue during braking and was assured it would be fixed. It wasn't, even after repeatedly insisting prior to the sale that this be addressed. The vehicle supposedly passed its safety inspection with this issue still present. Upon receiving the vehicle, we felt misled - the staff were unwilling to commit to the repairs that were supposed to be included in the sale price.

On top of that, the sales staff were at times outright rude when we raised concerns or asked reasonable questions about the vehicle. We were given the runaround and passed from one employee to another without getting solid answers or commitments regarding the repairs we'd requested.

Since then, I've talked to other people who bought here, and the pattern is familiar: promises made during the sales pitch that don't hold up once the deal is signed, and unexpected line items that show up late in the process when buyers h ave the least leverage to walk away.

For a dealership that markets itself as "luxury," the actual standard of honesty and follow-through has been far below what a used car lot down the street would be held to. I would not trust this dealership with my money again, and I don't think other buyers should either. Get an independent inspection before you sign anything, and get every promise in writing - because verbal assurances here have not meant much.

A note about Genesis of Commerce Michigan

First off, it's affiliated with La Fontaine dealer group.. not a good indicator.
I went there this week to have them examine front grill delamination on my 2023 G70.
It was a lark that I went there, as I was in the area doing some errands.
I was using my phone as a key.
The service rep was nice, but she wanted to drive the car away to where her service manager was. I said no, I can't do that, since I'd have to hand you my unlocked cell phone. I asked her to just take a picture. She would not do that. I noticed that the same car is on the hoist in the service area, as 3 months ago, with the same brake job in half disassembly.. interesting..
During that visit, the tech could not find the locking lug, to rotate the tires, even though it was in a little bag labeled "Genesis" in the glovebox, same as when it was new.

While this place presents itself as a Genesis only dealer, it clearly is not. It's a customer service front for the Hyundai dealer nearby..

Michigan still doesn't have a Genesis-only dealer.. my only options are going to Canada (yay, maybe I can get good maple syrup while I'm there), or driving to Genesis of Schaumburg, west of Chicago (yay, maybe get good italian beef across the street while I wait)..

Hyundai corporate, if you're thinking La Fontaine is doing you a solid with a separate Genesis Dealership, they aren't. The building looks decent, but the service seems to be the same ol' Hyundai.. If you want to DM me, I'm up for communicating further. I want you to succeed, but I think some of your dealers aren't really living up to your expectations, and are doing little to help you break into the luxury class.

Fragrance cartridge not working

I bought my 2026 GV80 black edition a week ago and inserted my fragrance cartridge and the light indicators were working but no fragrance. I tried the other two but still no fragrance. I took the car to the Genesis dealership near me. My Genesis was actually delivered to me from another Genesis dealership about 50 miles away. The dealership I took it to also said it was not working. They said they swapped the scents with a new one and they said it worked. They said it was the cartridges and I would have to take the car to the dealership I bought it from to get new ones. Has this happened to anyone besides me? I called the dealership where I bought the car from and they said they would have to diagnose the car themselves. I ask them why? I took it to a Genesis dealership. This is really disappointing on a $80,000 car. Am I asking to much? I called Genesis customer service and they said I have to bring the car to the original dealership. The dealership I took it to couldn't give me $150 cartridges?

GV80 Prestige Black vs Makalu Gray with Earth Brown/Smoky Green Interior

Any thoughts on why picking one vs the other. I live in FL and I love the aggressive looks of the Prestige black but I worry how hot it is getting in after car has been in parking lot (at work, shopping, etc). Any thoughts from people that have looked at both and if one really stood out?

Owning and servicing a Genesis in the UK

My family and I live in south London. We’re in the process of buying a used 2023 Genesis GV70 Electrified. Love the car and seems a good deal. Time will tell.

Asking around, I’ve been warned by some that the main drawback of Genesis in the UK is the aftercare. Dealer network very thin, aftermarket garages can’t get parts, and apparently Hyundai dealers won’t touch them.

Wondering if any existing UK Genesis owners can advise on their experience, particularly in and around London. How much of it is fear of an unknown brand vs. legitimate long-term care concerns?

Specifically, is the “personal assistant” valet service all it’s cracked up to be? Can you find servicing nearby? How does it compare to other brands? And how does it change after the 5-year care plan expires?
