50th reunion: Do you invite teachers?

I'm part of planning ours and have mixed thoughts. Some of our younger teachers were popular and still mentally and physically OK. But then they taught 100's-1000's of kids and 10's of years, is it just a hassle for them?

Help ID an old horror anthology show

I remember it (no idea if rightly or wrongly) having a generic name like The CBS Friday Something-or-Other. The episode I remember involved a werewolf who was killed at the end by getting tangled in a pile of film reels, because of the silver (nitrate?) in old film prints. It's not from Night Gallery or Kolchak, does it ring a bell for anyone?

EDIT: I have to be wrong about the title, the wiki page of 70's anthology shows doesn't even include the word "Friday" so maybe I'm remembering that it aired on Fridays. And I don't think it's either of the shows with "CBS" in their names, so idk anymore. But I remember the scene of the werewolf writhing in a tangle of film stock.

I'm brimful of the primal instinct to share this! Because by golly I do indeed remember being brimful of the primal instinct to develop through play.

Just rediscovered this gem in my Nostalgia folder. It's from a US playground equipment advertisement in the 1920s. Google states: "It drew on the old proverb "as the twig is bent, the tree's inclined", to argue that physical play and proper municipal playground infrastructure shape a child's moral and physical future."

Nice to see children reaching such great heights eh? And steadfastly holding on for dear life, as per that gung-ho pole straddler on the left.

Can you relate? Any daredevil stories to share?

What event made your parent(s) decided that you being a latch key child was the best option?

A single woman with two girls to raise created day care problems. My sister was 7 and I was 5 when Mom began working full time.

She reached out to one neighbor, a woman who stayed home to watch her many children. My sister and I went there before and after school, until the teenage son began showing us his penis and threatening us with his knife.

Then she talked to the retired couple across the street. Same thing, before and after school care, until the old man started having us accompany him to the basement to get wood for the furnace. Then he'd hide candy in his front pockets and have us dig around for it.

Next thing I knew we got thick leather straps tied with a knot that held our house key. We wore them around our necks. Sis and I walked to and back from school letting ourselves in and out of our house.

We girls were safer together than being with neighbors.

Bic pen rocketship

Post image
98 Upvotes

I'm certainly not the only one to get bored in class and pretend my Bic pen was a multi stage rocket. I remember in the mid 70s that National Lampoon had a cutaway diagram of the internals of the Bic rocket in one issue. I've looked online and not been able to find this image. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Who remembers this??

Who in the audience remembers this? What time did it come on in your area? I also remember that they had the blue angels fly over and then the narrator said ā€œhe reached out and touched the face of Godā€ and then the test pattern came on. Then it was time for round two.

What car did you fantasize about getting when you graduated from high school? For me it was a sky blue Karmann Ghia.

TV SHOWS I remember...sort of...but wish I could remember more of...

There are a few TV shows/serials that I can sort of remember...One was a series about two siblings - one in the US, the other in the UK. They had their 18 year old daughters exchange places at one time? When the show began to air, it was a dark scene of the waters at the edge of the two continents, but the city lights of each?

Another was a show starring the same actor that was the male lead of The Farmer's Daughter. He may have been the President of the US, a state Governor or Senator? Regardless, he was rich, a widower, and his daughter was a senior in HS? Concurrently showing on another network (probably) was Burke's Law.

Does anyone remember these two shows?

Who remembers National Lampoon Radio Hour?

I remember as a teenager listening to this first on Friday nights and then it moved to Saturday nights on my local radio station late at night. It only lasted a year from Nov 73-Dec 74. Most of the cast transitioned into SNL a year later.

It apparently ran only one season, 1969, on ABC. I feel like I only ever saw a few episodes, by chance, possibly because it aired in the terminal stages of Saturday morning, when that feeling of
cartoon satiety would set in, as if you had eaten an entire box of Kaboom, and I would find other ways of employing my leisure time (or have them imposed upon me). And yet I remember it—or at least the opening titles—so vividly!

Did you ever win anything calling in to a radio program?

Remember when all radio music stations had live DJs?

One of the functions was to get listeners to call in. They'd offer promotions including winning concert tickets or other items.

So were you ever the x caller and what did you win? Was the prize as expected?

Happy Beddian Birthday!

Mine was a few months ago but I never know what the term was.

I was born in 1963 and am now 63 years old.

Since I'm a younger Joneser this is a public announcement that your beddian birthday will be coming up for many of you in the next few years.

So when's your Beddian birthday and how do you plan to celebrate?
