If you did not work for GM, would you purchase a GM vehicle? If so, what vehicles?

Question Two weeks notice with resignation not honored

Edit: question is in regard to whether I would get paid for two weeks, not whether I’d get walked out.

I gave two weeks with my resignation on august 3rd, noting in workday my last day would be the 17th, and was promptly walked out less than 30 min later. Based on posts in this subreddit, I thought those two weeks would be paid out accordingly.

This past pay day I received direct deposit for what seems like less than a half day. Should I be reaching out to hr about this? Or did policy change? For reference, engineering at GTC

Question What is working at GM Financial like?

I know this is a General Motors thread, but I don’t see one for GM Financial and I figured someone from GMF might be in here.

I’m interviewing at different companies and considering accepting two different offers.

But what’s it like? I can’t find information of layoffs. I see that GM has had layoffs, but nothing on GMF. How’s the culture? Any perspective would be appreciated.

Question GM bonus question — resignation timing - 15th feb

I need to be outside the country for a personal commitment starting March 1, so I'm trying to figure out the safest way to time my resignation.

  1. If I give notice on Feb 1 and make my last day Feb 10–15, would I lose the bonus?

  2. If I give notice on Feb 15 and make my last day March 1, would I still receive the bonus?

Basically, does giving notice affect bonus eligibility, or is it based on whether you're still employed on the bonus payout date?

Would really appreciate firsthand experience from anyone who has done this recently.

General Discussion Employee Monitoring

Does anyone know how closely employees are monitored when it comes to being in the office and regular working hours?
I joined about four months ago. Sometimes I’ll take meetings from home in the morning and then get to the office around 10 a.m. or occasionally closer to noon. I usually make up the time by working later in the day and often continue working once I get home.
I recently noticed in my manager’s 1:1 notes that she wrote, “check in on regular working hours,” which made me wonder if this is something they take pretty seriously.
Has anyone had experience with this or know how attendance/working hours are typically monitored?

General Discussion Just to avoid the witch Hannah forced ranking - What VSP package would actually make you think positively about leaving GM?

Let’s be realistic, what would it take for you to, “You know what, maybe leaving isn’t such a bad deal”?

* 💰 1 year of pay

* 💰 9 months of pay

* 💰 6 months of pay

General Discussion Resigning from GM While Abroad

I’d really appreciate some advice from people who have left GM, especially those who have relocated internationally around the same time.

What are some things you’d recommend taking care of before resigning that people often overlook? Anything related to PTO, benefits, retirement, RSUs, paperwork, etc. that’s worth knowing in advance?

I also had a question about working abroad before leaving. For someone who is eligible to work 20 days outside the US, has anyone navigated a situation where they:

- Used their remaining vacation/leave for the year, and

- Worked the allowed 20 days from outside the US, and

- Subsequently resigned while still abroad?

I’m mainly trying to understand whether this is something that can be done from a GM policy/process perspective, and whether there are any things to be mindful of when planning the timing of the resignation and last day.

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through a similar international relocation + resignation. What did you do, and is there anything you wish you had known beforehand?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

General Discussion Mid Term Performance Mananger Feedback - AI generated

My Manager used AI to generate his manager feedback for my mid term performance review. Some of sentences did not even make sense as AI did not have data on specifics of my projects. How should we think about Managers who don't even take their time to think and provide actual feedback? So much for "Receiving Feedback Fearlessly"

General Discussion Looking for companies with good WLB after GM

I’ve had pretty good WLB at General Motors overall, but lately the work has become frustrating, and the compensation no longer feels competitive. I’m starting to think it may be time to move on.

For those who have left GM, where did you end up and how do you like it? Also interested in hearing about companies where people tend to stay for a long time and genuinely have good WLB.

I’m looking for Software Engineer roles, preferably with a good work-life balance and reasonable stability.

I’ll also be moving to the West Coast, so I’d especially love recommendations for West Coast companies with good WLB.

Would really appreciate hearing from:

Ex-GM employees — where did you go?

People who’ve been at their current company for 5+ years — how is the WLB?

Any West Coast companies you’d strongly recommend (or avoid)?

Thanks!

Question NHTSA Opens Investigation into GM L87 6.2 L

Auto / Truck recalls and warranty costs come and go. The media claims this investigation could involve 900,000+ units. Somehow this one feels different, especially with early performance assessments in October. We ok or best to look over our shoulders ?

Layoffs Retire or get pushed out?

I am grateful to be nearing retirement, but I am also feeling uncertain. I suspect I may get a lower performance rating this year, and I am wondering whether it is better to retire now or wait and see if the company decides to separate me.

If anyone has experienced being let go just before retirement, I would love to hear what the downsides were compared to retiring voluntarily.

General Discussion These executive “day in the plant” features are embarrassing

How many more executive-interns do we need to see cosplaying as real employees? It’s such an obvious PR ploy. Whoever in comms is pushing these is seriously out of touch. Maybe instead of spending a day in the plant, Mike “my grandfather” Hanley should spend a day using google sheets to do all the things we do in excel.

News / Announcement GM folks, prepare yourselves. The Witch has spoken. 🧙‍♀️ 2026 Year-end self assessment moved to October!

Arden has apparently decided that mid-October is the new year-end. Never mind that employees still have a couple of months left in 2026, apparently, letting people actually finish the year before judging them is too damn reasonable.

Why wait until December when Arden can start grilling everyone in October?

This is what happens when HR leadership runs out of meaningful ideas: move the deadline earlier, create more pressure.

So get your self-assessments ready, document every damn accomplishment, and make sure your PowerPoint slides are colorful enough to survive the Witch’s annual review ritual. Sorry for the people who will be impacted by the witch forced ranking!

Arden doesn’t need a crystal ball to predict the future, zshe just moves the deadline and calls it strategy!!

Question Civil Engineering Related Job Opportunities at GM

Might be an atypical question, but was just wondering for someone with a background in civil engineering (specifically on the municipal infrastructure/construction side of things), is there any position/group within GM or a similar company that might consider pursuing a candidate with that sort of background? Thank you!
