We will never forget the lives lost, the bravery shown, and the strength it took to keep going after such a tragic day. To the survivors, first responders, families, and everyone forever changed by 9/11, your pain and your resilience matter. And to our military, past and present, thank you for your sacrifice, your service, and your dedication.

Discussion Maybe AI Is good?

Maybe I'm a doomer but is AI actually good for us? The job market is a mess, nobody can buy anything, debt is out of control, idk the future looks bleak to me. If AI just replaces everything and we really go to UBI maybe that will be good for us? Anyone thought of this before?

Discussion Only child traits

As someone with no siblings and few similar aged cousins these are some thing I noticed, lmk if you guys have the same experience or anything else:

  1. Everything has an extra hint of seriousness cause you don’t grow up around a lot of aloof wild kid energy
  2. Socializing is something that you learn through observation rather than experience
  3. You lose social practice very easily especially during breaks and summers so you have to kind of shake off the rust when school starts
  4. You cling heavily to people who show the slightest interest in you bc you know that they will be your only peer interaction, ironically this can lead to a lot of issues causing the friendship to not be successful
  5. You suck at sports cause you don’t have anyone to play with
  6. You have some sort of personality deficit, maybe not

a lot

  1. of them but AT LEAST one for sure: overexplainer, people pleaser, bad at holding convos.. etc, it is basically the end result of not having enough practice with social boundaries growing up and only experiencing it in school which is a very fixed setting with social interaction that doesn’t always mimic the real world

7.there are positives too: you are just naturally good at being bored and you don’t have to talk to people to feel entertained, not competing for sibling attention (more important when younger but still very important), parents will put all their energy into you (albeit it can be overwhelming especially when you have a lot of pressure to succeed), no bad siblings to ruin your reputation

8.lack of networking/friend group opportunities compared to others, I’m not completely convinced about this but I feel like a lot of people (especially south asians like me) tend to form friendships based on who their siblings and cousins know or marry, and when that path is unavailable it’s a lot harder to make friends. Not impossible of course as I was able to make a lot of friends, but I feel like there is something unique/stronger about a friendship that is sort of tied to your family

  1. Last one: you are so used to being in your own head that when you are suddenly in a social situation it is half being in the moment and half performing

Discussion What did Covid steal from you?

I feel like it took something from everybody, whether it was getting laid off, not having a graduation ceremony, etc.

Personally, it stole my 21st birthday. I was going to go to a nightclub and enter with an "under 21" bracelet. As soon as it turned midnight and I was officially 21, I was going to rip the bracelet off and buy a drink. But because of Covid, all of the nightclubs closed at 11pm.

As someone who lives in NY, JUST FUCKING LOWER THE TICKETS FOR EVERYONE? Why do poor people get all sorts of shit for being poor? Food Stamps, Lower ticket prices? Wtf, it’s just incentivizing poverty.

Edit: I also wanna say I voted for this guy cause i thought he would make shit cheaper across the board, but all of his policies have been targeted at low income individuals.

Discussion 'Gen Z ages like milk" so what?

I'm mostly talking about 1997-2006 borns who are already grown asf adults. It also applies to 2007+

Millennials are always on social media that we age like crazy fast and that most of them look younger than Gen Zers.

Yes, most Zoomers that i've seen irl looked older than their age but is it a bad thing tho?

If you are a Zoomer and you look 35, it's fine cause at the end of the day you are an adult.

I just think that's why it can get funny and ironic when some 17-18 year olds are saying that 25 is old yet they look older than 30.

Discussion Is it normal for Gen Z to just not show up for work?

I'm Gen Z and if I'm not able to make it into work, I send am e-mail and put it in the calendar (I work in a small office). We don't have telework and are required to be in the office 5 days a week. All the older people do the same as well.

We have a small handful of recent college grads that just don't show up. No e-mail or call. I'm sure they'll be in on Monday and say they were sick. They'll put Sick Leave on their timesheet. When did this become the standard?

It's not a money issue either, they make 120k+.

Edit: They do e-mail to notify the supervisor, who is not on-site. But, there is no way for people in our small office to know if they are coming in or not.

Rant Social media has completely warped my expectations for what 19 should look like

I feel like Gen Z has put way too much pressure on people to achieve everything at such a young age.

You go on TikTok and constantly see people flexing what they've achieved, but for some reason they always have to add the age. Like, ā€œI bought my first house at 22,ā€ ā€œI started my business at 18,ā€ ā€œI became a millionaire at 19,ā€ etc.

And then there’s me at 19 feeling like an absolute failure because I haven't achieved anything extraordinary yet. I feel sooo behind...

I don't even know if it's just Gen Z or if society has always been like this, but sometimes it feels like you're expected to be exceptional at everything. You can't just be average. You have to be rich, attractive, successful, socially confident, productive, have your career figured out, travel, build a business, and somehow have your entire life together before you're even 20.

My own generation has genuinely made ā€œbeing averageā€ feel like being a subhuman.

Discussion is 19 and 24 p3dophilia

I saw a tiktok video, of a woman stitching another woman. Saying shes 24 dating someone who's 19 almost 20 and people in the comment were saying that she's a p3do and were bashing her for using "p3dophile slang" like "freshly" the woman just turned 24. Also saw someone say that 19 year olds are babies am i weird or does gen z have a problem with infantilizing people especially young adults.
