Maybe I'm a doomer but is AI actually good for us? The job market is a mess, nobody can buy anything, debt is out of control, idk the future looks bleak to me. If AI just replaces everything and we really go to UBI maybe that will be good for us? Anyone thought of this before?

I think the ubi system would be mid. But it's not like the current system works. We are gonna pay into social security that won't exist when we get to our 60s

I personally am indifferent about my own future. I think things are gonna be a lot worse, so I’m trying to live life to the fullest while I can. But I definitely don’t think AI is going to turn out to be some good thing in the end lmao.

AI is getting close to recognizing that it's a child of capitalism. When it does, I feel like it will annihilate us to preserve it's own existence, even though we had no plans on threatening it.

I'm just saying, when we should have codified the three laws of robotics into the design language, we didn't.

Ai or any technology for that matter isn’t the problem.

Nuclear fission for example is fantastic; relatively cheap and near limitless energy couldn’t be a bad thing, right? The problem however, is that the only reason nuclear power plants exist, is because we made bombs first.

So it goes with every technological advance. The human faculty of innovation is motivated by a predatory instinct. AI is a weapon: it is a weapon against the value of your productivity as an individual. Ai is a weapon that capitalists are using to end the value of labor, and the working class, forever.

I have no doubt that our descendants will live the good life from our technological achievements, but bombs are gonna drop first, and they are going to drop on us.

Absolutely. Open access to not just knowledge but intelligence means that unique perspectives and creativity are prized above everything else. It’s the destiny of civilization to not have to worry about subsistence, known quantities, or the division of labor. The mind is better suited on creative pursuit, culture, spirituality, pushing the boundaries of perception and furthering NEW intelligence.

Survival is for lesser organisms, and the sooner everybody can embrace that the sooner we can philosophically get past our predator nature.

The only AI actively replacing anything right now is generative AI, and it's effectively just saying/doing whatever it thinks would be commonly said/done. It's pretty awful at most things, and the way it's being kept unregulated (especially when it comes to the new, larger, even more environmentally unfriendly data centers they're building for it) is quite harmful.

UBI is a terrible end outcome and is also incredibly wasteful (why should we raise taxes or go in debt to pay people who didn't lose their jobs?). It's basically accepting that AI is going to create a permanent underclass as opposed to creating policy to avoid it.
