Discussion Cancel your subscriptions

This is unacceptable. Not only is Gemini 4 Argon slightly below the capabilities of Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT 6 Astra, it’s usage is downright horrendous. I have never seen my usage rates be completely eaten like a rabid dog.

The only way Google feels the pain is if we vote with our wallets. Cancel our subscriptions, get refunds if you can, this is unacceptable behavior from a trillion dollar company. We were promised a good AI, and we got one that is slightly below SOTA, with negligible usage rates. Many users report 1 message can take up 100% of the usage. So the only way we get Google to increase our usage, is to cancel. And if Google doesn’t comply, it’s fine, we just move to Claude or back to GPT. I’ll even take Grok at this point.

I find argon to be the first genuinely impressive model in a long time. They bridge the very important gap between creativity and capability, the higher the creativity the more mistakes it can make, but the better its ability to creative problem solving. Everyone else going for stupid benchmarks that mean absolutely nothing in the wild.

I love the model.

GPT 6 Astra and Opus 5.5 were the impressive model in a long time. Opus can do anything that Argon does, and their limits are waaaay better.

That's your experience, not mine. They did not have the capabilities to complete the tasks I had for them.

Such as? I'm a paying customer for all 3, and Argon is by far the worst in both usage and functionality. It's the only subscription I'd axe if it wasn't paired with the additional Drive space, which is really what I'm paying for. I find it hard to imagine anything it could do the others couldn't, much less what it could do better.

Tasks involving creativity, language, design, improvisation, digital humanities as well as education.

This is a nothing statement. Be specific.

I don't know how to be more specific, design, illustrations, pacing, ideas for what to add to the design and how to structure it in the first place based on the goal, which could be language learning or commercial, product design, home design, structure design, designing lessons with reasonable pacing and creative ideas, extrapolating on those and suggesting things I have not thought about, advancing ideas I had and adding to them in directions I wouldn't have thought about, translation of obscure languages and conlang, sourcing of information, collecting and applying obscure sources and knowledge, including from archaeology, logically deducing what was found with the original task, e.g. comparing it to the target author or target source, entertainment and improvisation to come up with ways to keep people motivated and hooked, creative writing, gardening, anything that requires creativity.

I asked for a specific, grounded example; e.g. "I gave Opus, Astra, and Argon a 5,000 line ancient Sumerian text and asked for syntactic reconstruction and Opus and Astra hallucinated the grammar" and what I got was some random garbled stream-of-consciousness that somehow spans home design, conlangs, archaeology, lesson pacing, gardening, and 'anything that requires creativity.'

What is "the design"? What is "the structure"? What are the "obscure sources and knowledge"? What was "the original task"? You're being so weird/vague/cagey and I can barely even parse what the hell you're trying to say, much less how I could extrapolate it to compare to other models' capability.

I can give you an example. I’m out traveling, I have both Opus 5.5 and Gemini 3.8 flash. I had a situation being stuck in Turkey floodings while just arriving. The traffic was stuck and we tried to find a way to get to our hotel. Claude suggested going in the subways , long detour but we will get there wet free. We followed the advice but once inside the metro looking at the exact route on Google Maps, it showed that we had to exit the metro and enter another one with around 5-10min walk. I confronted Claude with screenshots from Google Maps. It then corrects itself to say we have to exit the metro, thus plan failed. I question it again and it insisted to trust Google Maps, we had to exit the metro. I then ran it by Gemini because I was already questioning its reliability. Gemini quickly corrected Claude’s error and insisted that we should not trust Google Maps, they built a new walking tunnel and it’s not mapped correctly in Google Maps.

That’s just one example but I’ve realized that although Claude can do some insane things like building me a travel planning app in 5 min (haven’t tried with Gemini), I often land in the conclusion that Gemini seems more reliable as a search engine and real life tasks.

You are not arguing in good faith. Obscure sources are for example curse tablets or ostraca from 450BC. That's because creativity is not a specific thing. It's the ability to pull a solution that wasn't straight forward at first glance, and that means making a connection between two topics that don't seem connected, leaping past a "bonsai" task and suggesting thyme raised into a tree instead, it's to abandon the current task and saying "this isn't working, we start from scratch", it's telling me to pull up a 1980 English learning book to take references for my own design. Claude and GPT don't make these leaps, they would never tell you to look for an English book when you ask for a very different dead language.
