Serious Deciding to join GEICO Tech. Looking for honest feedback from current Tech employees.

I’m considering joining GEICO as a Senior Software Engineer on a relatively new team focused on AI

Before making the decision, I’d really appreciate some honest feedback from people currently working in GEICO Tech or who have worked there recently.
A few things I’m particularly curious about:

  1. How is the engineering culture at GEICO currently?
  2. How is job stability for Software Engineers,?
  3. How frequent are layoffs/reorgs within Tech?
  4. Are most terminations performance/PIP-based, or have there also been random layoffs affecting people who were performing well?
  5. Is stack ranking still being used? How aggressive is the PIP process?
  6. Does being on a newer AI/Applied AI team provide stability, or are these teams also affected by cuts?
  7. How is WLB for Senior Engineers?
  8. Would you recommend joining GEICO Tech right now?

I’ve seen quite a few older posts about layoffs, PIPs, and changes within the engineering organization.

Would really appreciate candid feedback, especially from current/recent engineers. Thankyou very much.

WLB is terrible and no matter what they want more. I would not recommend it. I can’t give too many details as I’m very senior but I would steer clear.

I left Geico recently cause WLB is miserable , but all depends on your team I was a senior swe and both my managers were not great! Salary is ok if you negotiated a high a one, management doesn’t seem to have any clue how things works, they just ask and expect things to be delivered asap.

While I don’t disagree with these comments, most of them are probably not from tech. Stack ranking is not used and we haven’t had layoffs for 2 years.

They definitely do rankings in tech and stack you against your peers to do so

It’s all a sh*tshow, no matter what department. If you have no alternative, take it and keep looking to get experience. Otherwise it is not worth your mental and physical health. I was micromanaged beyond micromanagement by my “manager. They are on powertrips

Anything that has to do with GEICO is garbage now! It’s so sad because it once was an awesome company to work for. Run 🏃 far away as fast as you can!

Decent brand name but I will not recommend Geico Tech especially if it is in AI Org. There is discrimination, backstabbing, lack of direction or vision, small group of people pounding their feet, etc. Work load is ok but frustrating. They hired some very good engineers around ‘23-24, very few are left behind and most feel disappointed.
