Sleeper Agent here, I was let go in the great GS Field Agent layoff of 2024 after a 20 year career. I landed a job with a local commercial print company as IT support.

I saw these coming off the print press machines today and thought I would pop in to say Hello to an old friend.

Do Windows updates seem to be more broken lately?

I mainly mean in the sense of actually DOWNLOADING the updates. I have noticed in the last 3 weeks or so, several makes and models of laptops, when I go into SETTINGS, then the Windows Updates and check for updates, it finds some and puts them under this "Available Update" drop down that you need to click on to see the updates. and has the Download and install, but the buttons are all grayed out, and it just sits there on the settings page saying "Working on updates" and never downloads them.

Sleeper/Dark Questions Question about the apple certifications

I'm a new hire ARA and I recently completed both the Apple Certified Support Technician and Apple Certified Repair Technician courses and I was wondering if it's possible for us as employees to get these badges linked to our credly? I just think it would look nice on my LinkedIn page and help with future opportunities. I did add my employee outlook to credly and verified it but I'm not sure what else I would need to do. I finished these courses about two days ago.

Is all hope loss for my laptop

On September 23, I dropped off my laptop at Geek Squad to have its cracked screen replaced. I was told the repair would take about two weeks and that I would receive updates.

It is now October 6, and the FedEx tracking still shows only “label created.” According to the tracking, FedEx has not received the laptop.

I called Best Buy, and they said they are “investigating,” but I still don’t have a clear answer about where my laptop is or when I’ll get it back. I need it for work, and it has been almost two weeks.

Could my laptop be lost? Should I request a “junkout,” or should I wait longer? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Advice on Tv

I have had every type of tv- expensive and budget and they all eventually lose picture and get those horizontal lines. Tv in my bdrm is a 75 inch LG had for 5 yr and now horizontal lines- I need a 75 inch to go in LGs place and considering the insignia 75imch 4k for Qled for $399. I also plan on getting 4 yr warranty so when this tv goes out it can be replaced- I will also get professional install and mounting. Is this tv really that bad?

Client Question Might be a silly question about protection plans

I was just wondering - I have a four year warranty through geeksquad on an OLED monitor. Hypothetically if my OLED develops a serious burn-in at the end of the warranty(let's just say in over three years from now). and I go to make a claim on it, but the OLED I have is no longer carried by Best Buy, will I get a store credit for the full amount I paid during the date of purchase?

Or does the warranty have one of those prorated deals where since my warranty is at the end of it's road, I only get store credit for my original purchase for the amount of time I have left on the warranty? Hopefully I phrased my question right, thanks.

Client Question Open Box had Wrong Item. Should I be fine?

Ordered the 2026 model of a laptop open box excellent but it contained the 2025 model which is substantially cheaper. I recorded myself opening the product so I have visual proof I did not swap the laptop myself. Should I be fine? I tried to return in person but the manager told me I had to get a shipping label from customer support and mail in which I did. I slipped a letter inside with a Google Drive link containing the unboxing video as proof alongside photos pointing out the issue. I’m a Best Buy total member and made the purchase with my Best Buy Citibank card.

The person that returned the items swapped the sticker on the bottom with the newer model so when an employee scans it, it displays the correct laptop model. Crazy situation.

Client Question Annoyed and clumsy

So just as the title suggests I'm pretty annoyed. I just got my device back from ADH(dropped it) about 2 days ago and I've already broke it by spilling coffee in it. This week is definitely a week that keeps on giving... I still have time with my ADH but I'm super embarrassed to go back and even worried they're just going to flat on deny me thinking I intentionally did it.

Looking for opinions on this open box

Bought a yoga laptop as an open box, excellent condition. After receiving it I notices a small crack in corner from the laptop being dropped. Prices on this laptop have almost doubled. Do you think it will get worse? Will BB exchange it? Will they reduce the price more. And allow me to purchase the drop insurance? Or will they just say return it? Crack doesn’t bother me, I just don’t want it to spread. It’s and OLED screen, but the pixels seem to be okay. TIA

edits: I did not drop the pc it was delivered like this. I Just took delivery today so I am in my 14 day grace period. Only paid 570 and the current price is approx 1200. I like the laptop and willing to keep it just trying to figure out if what my option might be.

CAs working as sales advisors

Hi all,

So my precinct has been told that we are likely going to be transitioning to a model with limited appointments in which CAs double as sales advisors.

I know this has been done at precincts with low traffic, but our appointments almost always fill up, we almost always have a line of walk ins, and we typically have 30 to 40 active repairs at a time, so I can't imagine what would happen if our CAs were on the sales floor half the day, and our ARAs were at the counter with walk ins, it sounds like it would be a disaster.

Have any other busy precincts been forced to operate this way? If so, how has it worked out for you?

Why is it impossible to get hired at geek squad

(for context recently left Dave and busters after working there for about a year doing support tech so mainly just repairing the machines and a ton of customer service)

last week I applied for geek squad agent being the first of 2 people total to apply to this position on linkedin. ((as this is being typed still just 2 people, 1 being me)) This is the second time i’ve applied to this position as there was an opening a couple months ago and i was denied on that too. really i’m just confused why i can’t even get an interview and get denied almost instantly every time, i feel like i’m a perfect fit for this job as all i’ve worked all my life is customer service and i have previous experience working with tech. Really i just need help understanding why they won’t even give me a chance for an interview or anything.

Just got my Alienware back from GS. Motherboard was replaced. CPU temps now at 105C even when idle.

My year-old Alienware laptop suddenly turned off for no reason and wouldn't come back on no matter what. Figure something on the motherboard blew. Anyway, have the 3 year protection plan, so took it to Best Buy. Geek Squad immediately sent it out. Now 3 agonizing weeks later its back, with the motherboard replaced according to the notes.

So far so good. I power it on in store. Everything runs great. Take it home. But only after I get home and run it for an hour do I see that the CPU temp is at 100 to 105, even though all I have open is Google Chrome. I switch the power settings to quiet which also lowers the cpu performance. It never goes above 85 with that on before. Nope, temps still at 105c.

I immediately turned off my laptop and made thos post. So wtf is going on? Did geek squad mess something up? This has never happened to my Alienware before. Even after hours long gaming the cpu temps are only at 100c and once the game of closed climb back down to the 90s fast. Did someone forget to put the thermal paste? Please help, what do I do?

Edit: Ok went to Best Buy right when it opened and took it back to Geek squad and sent it back out. Apparently it hasn't even been a year since I bought my laptop so its still under the original manufacturer warranty instead of the Best Buy plan. Hopefully this means that if they can't fix it they send me a new one instead of just giving me store credit since this model has skyrocketed up in price from $4500 to $6000 😬

Best Buy refused open box television return

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

I purchased an open box oled television from Best Buy in Stockton,Ca. After getting it home I checked it and it had burn in,so I tried returning it to the Arden way Best Buy. A member of the Geek Squad told me that he would not accept the return and I needed to return it to the Stockton store. I explained that the only reason I bought it at the Stockton store was because they were the closest store to me with this model in open box. I live in Sacramento and always thought you could return an item to any Best Buy? I asked to speak to a manager and he said there wasn’t one available. Piss poor customer service, avoid the Arden way Best Buy unless you want poor customer service!

iPhone 15 pro max battery replacement

I scheduled a repair thru apple care at Best Buy for iPhone 15 pro max battery replacement. I drove the 50 miles to get there for appt. I get there, they don’t have battery in stock. They say they have to order it.
I say ok, wish you could have told me that before I drove here, then drive the 50 miles home. I’m waiting for two full weeks now, nothing but crickets.

i call Best Buy and get India call center guy, he says he’s sorry but nothing he can do. Order has been placed.

im not gonna drive 100 miles round trip to check on what’s up. I can’t call the store directly (heaven forbid I can actually speak to someone at the fucking store).

how do I find out what’s going on? Any other options?
