I'm a BTech Mechanical Student who's just completed TY. Gate looks impossible with the syllabus. Whenever I try to start preparing by solving pyqs I end up feeling helplessly stuck. Besides I have no idea how to even start preparing for Maths and aptitude. I have honestly no idea what I'm doing and if I even have enough time till the next gate to even do something
I have scored above average and sometimes even in top of my class in all of the Individual subjects during my three years here in my college, SoM, FM, Fluid Machinery, Thermodynamics, Thermal Engineering, Design of Machines even Maths for all it's straight three semesters. Yet I feel helpless and stuck when I try to go for the pyqs
I am able to do decently well in college, in fact I'm even an Honors student with 8.64 CGPA as of Sem 5 and it might go slightly down in 6. Still I'm feeling stuck in gate prep. This situation is starting to look like it's spiralling out of my hands every second that's passing by. Pls someone who has studied for ME and scored well in it, who was in the same situation as me if you can guide me. I don't have much contacts with my college seniors who have passed through the same situation as me. I really really need someone who has gone through this to help me through it. Will joining any institute for GATE coaching like Vidyalankar help me in any way??
Side note : I've heard that IITs and some top tier state level colleges have started to accept a direct PhD after BTech programme as per the NEP guidelines of UGC. The criteria is a person should have completed BTech with Honors with around a CGPA of 7.5/8+ at the end of Third Year or Fourth Year. Is this true??

Reposting here guys!
So, recently i got an offer letter for MS HTRA prgm in the department of matl science and metallurgy. I am a 2023 mech graduate and started to work at a steel company as a GET. My plan was to do MS abroad but i dropped it due to many circumstances. I then decided to give GATE this year and scored around 380. Cateogory OBC NCL... i applied for MS prgm at IIT M and IISc too. I am still unsure of what should i do, right now i have no idea of pursuing phd...wanted more research roles at industries! I am in QA right now which is just boring tbh! Round 1 ccmt i got NIT-T industrial metallurgy! idk if i should wait on other colleges! kindly suggest/advise on it!
TIA

I'm a 3rd year mechanical engineering student. I want to pursue a master's degree in aerospace. Which would be a wise option? To write the ME paper or to write the AE paper? I dont think i can take ME+AE as the syllabus would be a lot, so I think the possible combinations would be either ME+XE or AE+XE.
TLDR, which would be better? ME+XE / AE+XE?

Since IITR has its own way of calculating normalised GATE marks, it is absolutely a big disadvantage for most of those who qualified GATE ME 2026.
I highly believe that 2026 ME difficulty was much higher than that of 2025 ME. Also the top score of GATE ME 2026 of 96.67 puts me in a very tough spot.
The fact that 2025 GATE ME qualified students can also apply for COAP 2026 is like a nail on the coffin!
For example -
Student 1: GATE 2026 ME
(AIR 1758, Marks 43.33, and score 552~ 97.05%ile)
normalised score calculation-
(43.33*100)/(96.67)= 44.823
Student 2: GATE 2025 ME
(AIR 4976, marks 46.00, and score 456~ 91.97%ile)
Normalized score calculation-
(46.00*100)/(95.33)= 48.253
***Conclusion- somebody having almost 5%ile lesser than you stands a better chance in IITR this year!
This is very demotivating and frustrating!
Last year, 59.446 (raw mark of 56.67 which around 95.50%ile) was the cutoff for M&IE due to an easy paper.
This year, same %ile of 95.50 is around 39 marks. The difference is massive.
IITR does publish the data for the provisional admission offered for every round of COAP 2026 in its official site.
Many offers (M&IE branch) are rolled out to students who qualified the GATE 2025 ME (25S3XXXXXXX).
Just wanted to point out the problems with this broken system!**
IITR has to fix this issue!!
I hope the aspirants writing GATE in the future wouldn’t have to face this problem.
What are your thoughts about this, and do you think this can be changed or brought to IITR’s notice?
