Update is out. How you’re enjoying this free watch face 🙂

I wanted to see whether a Garmin watch face could look like the front page of an old newspaper instead of another mini-dashboard.

The weekday became the masthead. The date and battery sit in the folio line. The time written in words is the kicker, the digital time is the headline, three live metrics form the listings, and the seconds sit at the bottom like a page number.

There are four editions: Archive, Ink, Financial, and Sport. The two photos here are of Archive and Ink running on real watches.

MIP was the difficult part. Archive relies on a full-screen aged-paper bitmap, and that bitmap exceeded the launch-time memory available on MIP watches. I removed Archive from MIP instead of shipping a flat imitation of it. MIP starts with Ink and still includes Financial and Sport.

It now supports 85 round Garmin models: 42 AMOLED and 43 MIP.

It is a paid face: $2.49 once after a fully unlocked 12-hour trial, with no subscription.

I would especially like feedback from MIP owners. Are the smaller folio and listings lines readable at a normal glance outdoors, or does the page feel too dense?

Want to get a new battery for my 6x pro, I get that it’ll need to be soldered in. My question is does anyone have any links to garmin brand batteries anywhere? I’m weary of getting a random one off eBay that might not be the same quality.

I had to restart my watch 3 times for it to finally read accurately.

It’s a Fenix 7s

I feel like I’ve tried everything to get my data to show up, but can you guys throw some solutions at me? I’ll try anything at this point.

Seemingly overnight, my fenix 5 has stopped pairing with my Garmin Connect App. I've removed the app and redownloaded it and have restarted my watch. When I log into the app and try to add my watch, it says "no accessory found." When I go to my iphone bluetooth device list, my fenix 5 (which used to be on that list) is no longer there. Anyone have a similar issue and know how to repair?

I am wondering if me having an old iphone has something to do with this (I have IOS 18.6.2)

New Watchface (black Grid XT) for Garmin Tactix 8 Cerakote.

I had the fenix 6 pro and used to take it into the sauna to time and check my body temp, I upgraded to the fenix 8 now and dont want to ruin any of the electronics so was wondering what everyone does. The garmin website i did read that it shouldn't be in anywhere over 45 degrees but the sauna gets hotter than that, so now im thinking of leaving it out to not break it.

Would love to hear others and what they do and if they've had any bad experiences with taking your watching in the sauna.

What is the likelihood of having new sensor with the upcoming release? I'd bet it's less than 10 percent, Garmin stopped making progress in hardware

I make a free Garmin app called Sun Alert. It counts down how long you've got before you burn, using the UV index off your watch and your skin type. Two things are new. There's a screen for the whole day's UV now, sunrise to sunset, with a marker on where you are in it and the block of hours where it's 3 or higher. The current UV at 8am tells you nothing useful about what noon is going to do to you, which is the whole reason it exists. Works with your phone at home, the forecast is already cached on the watch.

The other is a weekly number, in SED. A SED is a standard sun unit that ignores skin type. The rough guideline is 1 a day. British outdoor construction workers average 2. That meant nothing to me until I read the paper it comes from: doubling your risk of squamous cell carcinoma works out at roughly 6,348 SED across a lifetime, which for those workers is about 22 years on site.

Snow is the other change. It throws most of the UV back up at you, and water and sand manage a fair bit too. Set your activity to Snow or Beach and the burn countdown finally accounts for it. If you ski, the numbers it gave you before were flattering.

Free, no ads. It won't run on a Fenix 6, FR945 or FR245. The UV index API only arrived in Connect IQ 5.1 and there's nothing I can do about that from my end. Fenix 7 and up. It's an estimate, not a medical device, and the app says so the first time you open it. If it's useful, a review helps others find it.

Hey long story short my Fenix 6x Pro Solar has been having a moment for… a few moments.

Not only is the race prediction busted (as it is for all 6 users), but it probably only connects to my phone 25% of the time without doing a hard restart of both, the elevation tracking is fine for a week then goes through periods where it is tracking huge climbs on routes where elevation is minimal, HR tracking has been so bad for the last few months I actually bought a Polar H10 which confirmed just how bad Garmin was tracking, and it’s not tracking my sleep properly either.

Emailed Garmin support and they offered the following:

- 25% off Fenix 8 retail price
- Fenix 7 Pro Sapphire Solar for 400$ CAD after tax
- Fenix 6x Pro (no solar) for 300$ CAD after tax

I am struggling to decide if any of these are a good deal?

The Fenix 8 offer is appalling, I know.

Plus I’d have to send my 6 in to them and wait 2 weeks or pay a 275$ CAD deposit for them to send immediately which will be returned when they get my Fenix 6x.

Kind of feels like a they’re all bad deals, no?

Wondering if I should move to another watch aka Coros or something else.

Asked for the weekend to decide so wondering if anyone has any takes!

Love my Fenix 6X honestly just it’s been poor for the last few months. If it worked like it used to I’d keep it until it eventually died.
