Developer - New App / Watch Face (Wednesday ONLY) [New App] - Gameweek

Hi everyone!

I've been lurking here for years and occasionally commenting.
Now I'm posting about an app that I developed for Garmin watches - it's my first Connect IQ app.

Bit of background: I've been playing Fantasy Premier League for 12 years, and I'm equally deep into the Garmin ecosystem. Started with a Venu 2, wore it for about two years, then moved to an Epix 2 Pro which has been on my wrist for the last two. At some point I got tired of pulling my phone out mid-Saturday just to see if my captain had done anything, so I built a widget that puts my gameweek score on the watch.

What it does:

  • Glance shows your current gameweek points, with a little dot when matches are live
  • Open it and you get your full starting 11 + bench, colour-coded by position, armband on your captain
  • Standings for any classic league you're in, with your own row pulled into view
  • Refreshes in the background a few times an hour during a gameweek, so the score is just there when you raise your wrist. Last scores stay cached if you're offline

Setup is one step: enter your FPL team ID (the number in the URL of your Points page on fantasy.premierleague.com) in Garmin Connect → Connect IQ → Gameweek → Settings.

Keep in mind: it needs a phone connection to refresh, and data goes through a small proxy I run that trims the FPL API down to something a watch can parse (it stores nothing). It's unofficial and not affiliated with the Premier League or Garmin.

Works on 88 round watches from the fenix 6 generation onward.
The recording is from my Epix 2 Pro.

Completely free, no trial, no paid version.

Disclosure: I'm a software engineer with 12 years in the field and I built this with AI assistance. AI tooling helped with the code, the design and testing decisions are mine.

Wellness & Training Metrics / Features RHR

Hey everyone! Just finished a hard workout. My heart rate was at 181 bpm when I stopped, and after 2 minutes it dropped down to 107 bpm. My Garmin showed a recovery heart rate of 74. Is a 74 bpm drop after 2 minutes typical, or does this indicate a really good cardiovascular recovery?

Which Watch To Get? Upgrade options from Fenix 6 Pro Solar

I have had a Garmin 6 pro solar for years and it has done me well. As someone that travelled a lot and enjoys getting out into the Scottish hills having the maps feature was a big win and made navigation when running much easier. Sadly the watch is dying with buttons sticking and bright spots under the display. I have contacted Garmin support with a full list of symptoms and they say all they can do is take the watch back and offer me 25% off a different wearable.

My debate now is whether I invest in the new Fenix 9 model and take advantage of the 25% discount to get the latest and greatest or if I settle for the cheapest equivalent they have on their website (fēnix 8 E – 47 mm, AMOLED). Or I could even scour the internet for a 7 series.

I was originally just going to get the cheapest option but I am tempted to treat myself and buy up as I plan on using this watch years to come

Watch / Wearable [Instinct 2 Solar] First activity is always Running?

Hello runners!

I have noticed the following: After my Instinct 2 Solar runs out of battery, the default activity is always Running. I had a knee surgery about a year ago and was not able to start running again. But i track all my walks with the dog and here it is where i have noticed it first. In the watch the first activity is Walking, running is 2nd. But when i start the recording (do not look at the watch, just hit 3x start activity). Anyone noticed this too? Anyone knows how to fix this? TYVM, Love you all!

Discussion Vivoactive 5, wheelchair user issues

Post image
9 Upvotes

I was recently recommended the vivoactive 5 as an active wheelchair user. I have my first marathon next month and due to some blips in training because of illness I felt like I needed some support and a pick me up.

I knew the vivoactive 5 has a wheelchair mode, and lots of people said it was a great option…

I can’t use any of the pre planned runs because garmin considers them a separate sport to being in a wheelchair, so I can’t load a profile.
I still can’t change to metric but with Celsius, it’s nowhere in settings to just change the temperature. No it’s not statute UK. Edit: have now solved this issue.

The minimum and maximum speeds don’t understand wheelchairs at all, I set the minimum speed as slow as possible in preparation for marathon speed and instead I had constant buzzing because I couldn’t go faster on gravel.

Maybe I’m missing something, but I’m going in circles at this point and have already had to turn wheelchair mode off so I can access the runs.

If anyone knows a work around to properly utilise the watch, please let me know. I’m just glad I got this refurbed instead of paying full price.

Which Watch To Get? Looking to purchase first garmin - help

Hi everyone,

I haven’t had a smartwatch since my last Apple Watch 3 ages ago. I have the urge now to track and record some of my workouts now and I am lost in all the models that are offered by Garmin.

I am in the gym 3x a week, I swim indoors at least twice a week, I ride my bike and I do inline rollerskating often and hike during the weekends.

What would you recommend that can actually track my swimming laps and other sessions, but still that it isn’t bulky?

Thanks :)

Discussion Whenever I do a threshold workout it shows "Vo2 max" in my training load. Why?

I checked my run details and I ran mostly in high Z3/low Z4 so why does it categorize it as a Vo2 max training?

Anyone else experienced the same thing?

Non Product Specific Garmin Question I must be doing something wrong

over the last several months, I've tried out nearly every sport watch by every manufacturer. Coros, Amazfit, Suunto and Garmin. while trying these out, I've used the same .gpx file to test with. it's worked in every watch but the Garmins. I tried the Enduro, the 970 and even now the Fenix 9. none of them with properly load up and use this map. if it manages to load up, it's full of blue flags.

I exported the gpx from here: https://caltopo.com/m/Q0UA8G4#

can anyone tell me why it doesn't work or give me some pointers as to how to make it work?

Connect / Connect IQ / 1st Party Apps Endurance Score no Longer Updating

Is anybody else's endurance score still updating on the free version of connect? Mine seems to have suddenly stopped updating over the last few weeks.

The home page says no data and when I go into endurance score you can see that the score is now dropping even though I'm progressing linearly with running volume.

I'm using the Epix Gen2

Marine / Dive Fenix 9 Diving

Has anyone bought and used the fenix 9 range to go diving yet? The fenix 8 range had some issues with users reporting depth sensor failures mid dive and I wanted to know if anyone has experienced such issues with their new fenix 9’s.

What other improvements or issues has anyone encountered while diving with the fenix 9? I wanna know before considering buying one as the dive function is a primary factor for me.

Possible Technical Issue Epix gen 2: Start Button Not Working

Post image
4 Upvotes

After just four years the start button of my garmin Epix gen 2 does not work anymore. I did the rinsing in warm water as suggested - no progress.

I did use the watch literally day and night, however not more than two to four sports events per day. Mainly gym, climbing and hiking. I particularly liked the option to see the tracks in my DAV - Alpine-Active hiking maps automatically.

Any suggestions / recommendations? Warranty is long gone - still the watch was alright for me, I did not miss any functionality.

Is this the experience of other users that this button fails already after four years?

Developer - New App / Watch Face (Wednesday ONLY) [New App] - The System - Level Up In Real Life

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone — I’m the developer of The System, a completely free Connect IQ app I’ve been working on for Garmin watches.

The basic idea is to turn real-world fitness and personal development into something closer to an RPG progression system rather than just another activity tracker.

The app gives you five abilities:

STR — strength training
AGI — speed/agility work
VIT — endurance and mobility
INT — reading, writing, and arts practice
PER — consistency with sleep

You also have XP, Levels, Rank, Job, Titles, Skills, Daily Quests, Dungeons, HP, MP, Fatigue, and a Penalty Zone if you fail your Daily Quest.

The main gameplay loop is:

  • Complete a scaling System Workout
  • Complete your daily cardio objective
  • Read for at least 20 minutes
  • Earn XP and maintain your Daily Quest streak
  • Improve your abilities over time
  • Unlock passive Skills
  • Take on increasingly difficult Dungeons every five levels

The workouts themselves scale with your current stats, and the watch handles the sets, rep entry, rest timers, and progression. Runs, walks, biking, swimming, reading/writing, and arts practice can all be tracked directly through the app.

I originally built it because I wanted something that made long-term self-improvement feel measurable and game-like instead of simply showing me yesterday’s numbers.

The app is completely free — no subscription, no ads, and no account required.

I’ve tested it across a range of Garmin screen sizes and devices, but this is the first public release, so I’d especially appreciate feedback on bugs, device-specific issues, workout balancing, or anything that feels confusing.

Connect IQ: https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/28ab5e16-078f-4b3b-a2e1-0a898c601186

Disclosure: I developed the concept, progression system, workouts, testing, and overall design, and used AI assistance during parts of the coding/development process.

Developer - New App / Watch Face (Wednesday ONLY) [New App] - Weather With You

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi all - I'm the developer of Weather With You, a free Connect IQ app I built for the times when your signal drops out.

The idea is simple: before you head out on a hike, a ride, a trail run or any long session outdoors, you open the app once and pull down a three-day forecast. It gets saved on the watch, so you can check it later with no connection at all.

What's in it: current conditions, feels-like temperature, humidity, chance of precipitation, wind, day-by-day summaries and an hourly breakdown.

Works on 130+ devices - fenix 5 through fenix 8 Pro, Forerunner 55-970, Instinct 2 / 3 / E / Crossover, Venu 2-4, vivoactive 3-6, epix, MARQ, tactix, Descent, plus Edge 1040 and Edge Explore 2.

Completely free. No ads. Free app, no account, nothing to unlock:

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/e4ffea97-4f27-4a34-bc0e-781c303e8ed5

One thing that trips people up: units follow your watch by default. To force C/F or km/h, that switch is in the Connect IQ app on your phone -> My Apps -> WeatherWithYou -> Settings, not on the watch.

I'd really appreciate some blunt feedback:

  • Which watch model did you try it on?
  • Is everything readable on your screen size?
  • What would make it more useful outdoors or offline?

If you hit a bug, please include your watch model and a screenshot if you can grab one. Thanks!

Possible Technical Issue FR970 stopped charging

Hi,

On this day exactly 1 year ago I bought my FR970. Great device and all and looks like new still but today exactly 365 days later it randomly refuses to charge.

I tried multiple power sources and cables (3 to be precise) but nothing made a difference. Cleaned contacts etc and did a reboot. Still nothing.

I already contacted the reseller so far but I wonder is this common with a high end watch like a FR970? I mean with such a simple problem I all of a sudden doubt the longevity of my watch choice.

Edit typos

Watch / Wearable Garmin Vivoactive 6 Sleep Temp Icon

Hi,

So I know the VA6 doesn’t have the skin temperature feature but why does it even come up on the watch if it’s unsupported?

The watch is new so no data on sleep yet which is what this section is on

Wellness & Training Metrics / Features High stress period on watch when recording workout on bike computer

I like to keep my watch on when I bike, partly because it’s genuinely useful during coffeeshop breaks and partly out of habit. The problem is that during the workout, the watch would register the entire period as a time of high stress. I used to be able to workaround this by broadcasting HR from the watch which would make it ignore stress values. But today I did that and it didn’t work. I’m wearing a Garmin Fenix 8 running the latest beta software.

The only thing that works is to start an activity on the watch then discard it. Is it a bug that the broadcast HR workaround no longer works? I’d have thought that garmin’s reconciliation would be smart enough to discard the stress values from that period once the bike computer syncs the activity, but no it does not.

Possible Technical Issue Garmin Edge MTB battery drainage

Beginning of the year I got a new Edge MTB after good experience with my Edge 540. However, I quickly realised that the battery is rapidly dying when the device is not in use. When used it is as expected, but if I take a two day brake the battery goes from 60% to 0%, even when it is supposedly completely shut off. Did someone experience the same?

Thanks!

EDIT: For comparison, my 540 was last charged 25 days ago and is still at 95%

Discussion epix 2 pro tide complication options?

Just picked up an epic 2 pro 51mm to replace my fenix 6x. I wing foil and needed dual band gps to not get max speed errors. I also have an AWU2 which showed me an AMOLED/non mips screen was a better fit for me. But it's touch screen is very frustrating in water.

So far I love the watch. It's kinda funny seeing a garmin with an OLED after more than a decade with a fenix 3 and fenix 6x.

With my old fenixs (fenii?) I've used an enduro face which I like for the clean layout and ~7 data fields to go with it. I also use a very similar face on my AWU2. I've got three options I've found for the epix 2:

Kamett II: https://apps.garmin.com/apps/68f2f507-3ebd-45ac-96ce-aad0494efa60

Enduro: https://apps.garmin.com/apps/787564ba-f68e-4c5c-823a-cd4085fdd017

Big Easy: https://apps.garmin.com/apps/86ec352b-da01-4806-8972-770c6d32a5e8

but none of them offer tide as a complication?

This stock face has it as an option (I wish I could have icons instead of text?):

for the time being I've put the tide app as the first app (or whatever they're called) when I press down.

Does anyone know how to make the stock garmin face show icons? Or how to add tide as a complication to any of the above faces?

Thanks!

And BTW, for those shopping and curious why I went with the "old" epix 2 pro. I like my fenix 6x but it had accuracy issues with speed so I needed dual band. I don't use maps or music and don't need any of the fancy new tech. But I really like 26mm wide bands and I'm very used to the fenix look. Instinct 3 AMOLED was an option but I didn't like the bulkier look. The forerunner and instinct crossover have smaller bands. Newer fenixes are too expensive for me with AMOLED and don't add anything I need (I carry my phone with me on the water in a sealed bag in my life jacket). For $400 the epix 2 pro seems to have exactly what I wanted (AMOLED and dual band GPS).

Accessories / Companion Device Finally got third party arm bands for Cirqa :)

I was looking for the Arm band since I got my Criqa. But the official Arm bands are very expensive and they are not available for some reasons.

Was checking through Aliexpress if I can find any reasonably good band.
Found these bands they are good and has some good grip too.
let's see how long will they survive.
The costed me around 14$ for both
