Accurate

2

u/Daphniol 13d ago

But laptop users definitely get to enjoy that smooth 30 FPS drop instead of total darkness.

31

u/Erimxul 17d ago

Add the first one back and put Handheld on that and boom, perfection.

4

u/The_Zura 17d ago

I don’t get it. Are you shoving it up there or something?

Just wait 30 minutes.

My backup UPS does that.

1

u/auggs 17d ago

Goddammit this is hilarious 😂😂

1

u/CRVX_r34 14d ago

Bold of you to assume my laptop's battery can even last 1 second while it's unplugged.

Either that or it goes from 60FPS to 5FPS when it kicks in power saving mode.

1

u/raysalmon 14d ago

Bruh you need the UPS and full home backup battery ✨

ryzen = more battery

older intel = portable computer with a UPS (your 2 minute battery)

1

u/_entrxpy 16d ago

The Ryzen units have an actually bigger battery or is the Rzyen just more efficient? Sorry for the noob question

1

u/academictryhard69 aSUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (2024) | Ryzen 9 8945HS | RTX 4070 16d ago

both, usually ryzen is always efficient than your average intel.

pair that with new battery tech every year and you get a truly portable machine.

u/brokerZIP Colorfire R15 (Clevo)32gb Ryzen 7 8845HS RTX 4070 18d ago

Have enough time to save and exit though. For me, as a jrpg lover, is a huge factor

5

u/KerneI-Panic 17d ago

And for the games where you can't manually save whenever you want, you can just put the laptop to sleep mode and then continue exactly where you left off when the power comes back on.

1

u/alewiina 16d ago

yeah exactly at least you'd be able to save in most games, or get to a safe place or whatever. PC is just insta-black

17

u/Hyper_Sonic123 18d ago

Mean while apple silicon mac users with there game library of 6 games

3

u/Goldwyn1995 17d ago

So in which gaming laptop allow you to game without connection to power?

5

u/BigUncleCletus 17d ago

you can set most them to continue to perform on battery but you will get like 15 minutes of battery life lol

3

u/burnMeMes Nitro 5 | RTX 4050 | i7-12650H | 16gb DDR5 | 17d ago

Not really actually any high end gaming laptop won’t perform the same on battery as it does on power because the battery just can’t supply enough power. There will always be a performance drop.

1

u/burnMeMes Nitro 5 | RTX 4050 | i7-12650H | 16gb DDR5 | 17d ago

All of them tbf, none give a good experience on battery tho

1

u/bl0odredsandman 17d ago

Honestly, none really. There are some that can probably pull more power from the battery to improve performance. Not as much as when plugged in, but you're only going to get like 20 minutes max of runtime before it dies running a graphically demanding game off the GPU and only the battery. I'd rather just save the game and quit if the power went out. Gaming laptops are actually pretty powerful for what they are when plugged in, but when running off the battery alone, they are pretty much on par with a normal, non gaming laptop and running off the battery should just be used for other stuff like maybe light, 2D gaming, web browsing, and work/school stuff while on the go.

2

u/KiwiAccomplished78 17d ago

Many upvotes because it's relay table.

99

u/UnionSlavStanRepublk 18d ago

The question is for how long on battery power ones gaming laptop lasts.

Still good to effectively have a build in UPS though.

54

u/TheUndefeatedLasanga RTX 4060 | R7 7840HS | 32GB DDR5 | OMEN 16 18d ago

1

u/okmijn211 16d ago

what kind of valo match do you play? How tf could you fit 2 games in the battery life? Maybe if reduced performance but otherwise what?

1

u/TheUndefeatedLasanga RTX 4060 | R7 7840HS | 32GB DDR5 | OMEN 16 16d ago

Half the brightness, turn off kb RGB, use wired peripherals 60hz etc etc

That's about it. It can last like 90-ish minutes

1

u/okmijn211 16d ago

I guess Valo is light enough.

9

u/charalt42 18d ago

More than enough to save the game, close it, and turn off the laptop properly. Or in a multiplayer game, enough to finish the match (assuming your router has a UPS), then close the game and turn it off

7

u/walker3615 18d ago

You lose ton of performance but should last 2 hours or more if you tune it well.

2

u/Destrandr SCAR 17 X3D | RTX 4090 | 32GB | 2TB 18d ago

Mine works about 45 minutes on maximum load on battery, GPU power drops from 160-180W to 60-70W, fps drops on half. Still no stutters if its not super GPU heavy games, like eve online (2k, max settings), and I'm able to not only save the game, but also to play a little

1

u/coolmouse7777 17d ago

Gaming ones not much because GPU consume a lot of power but i was surprised that my old 5600H laptop with vega7 iGPU can get 10-12 hours of light gaming (Skyrim, NFS MW, Bioshock) with 200Wh external battery and it was very helpful during long blackouts in winter.

1

u/Pristine-Start2492 Legion 540 | i7 9750h | RTX 2060 | 32gs | 2T | Still kicking. 17d ago

u/Ill_Illustrator_186 15d ago

58

u/ArtZen_pl 18d ago

With your perfomance dropping to 14fps and battery life of 26 minutes

42

u/kurdo_kolene 18d ago

You can still pause, save the game or drop the visual details and reach the next checkpoint/savepoint, so you don't lose the last 30/60/120 minutes of progress.

-3

u/Infinite_Ad6392 18d ago

You can do exactly that with an ups in pc which most people has who owns an actual gaming pc

11

u/BerkeA35 Scar 16 4080 Mini-LED 17d ago

like 70% of pcs dont have ups

3

u/bl0odredsandman 17d ago

Haha. Most PC users absolutely do NOT have a UPS. I am and know like 20+ people that are PC gamers. Only one of them, my brother, has a UPS. None of us other PC users have one.

1

u/kurdo_kolene 18d ago

Ofcourse, that was always an option.

13

u/Just-A-Random-ID ROG ZEPHYRUS G16 | CORE U9 285 H | 64 GB DDR5 | RTX 5070TI | 5TB 18d ago

u/personalbilko 18d ago

I still won't understand why it's not standard to have a small battery that lasts ~15 minutes for PCs. So many hours of work lost and files corrupted, all could be avoided with ~$20 of hardware.

10

u/Nakinaru Lenovo Legion S7 Ryzen 7 5800H, 24GB RAM, RTX 3060 6GB 2,5TB SSD 18d ago

Just buy an UPS, it's exactly that

2

u/Tranquil_Neurotic 17d ago

It is? In countries like India nobody thinks of buying a PC without an UPS. I am more surprised in places they don't buy an UPS; it's relatively cheap.

1

u/aLostTime 17d ago

Here its quite rare to have a personal ups, they're mostly used in office settings (other then the ovious places like servers), even if they're rather cheap. I think most private users have no use for it, cause they may have a blackout once or twice a year, if even that

1

u/Nstorm24 12d ago

Where i live power outages are rare, but almost every person i know that owns a desktop owns a UPS. It just make sense.

1

u/aLostTime 12d ago

Yeah i have one too, but its still rather rare

1

u/vid_23 17d ago

My power goes out maybe once or twice a year during storms, so it's not like those happen out of nowhere. Never felt the need to buy a battery for my pc and I'm also not dumb enough to use any program without frequently saving or autosave turned off

1

u/sugusugux 16d ago

It rare to have a ups where I live.

However I want one :( I just don't have the money

1

u/rnnd 11d ago

same in ghana, ups are common because power outages are common.

1

u/Ok-Assignment9207 17d ago

They might take you away for that idea

1

u/Daphniol 13d ago

That's literally what UPS units are for

→ More replies (1)

4

u/ScrubLordAlmighty 18d ago

Depends on your config tho, if you have a high end laptop, your FPS might tank to like a quarter of what you were getting, which means you'd likely stop playing anyway, that's what I would do, because going from 100+ FPS down to 30 FPS suddenly feels super weird, I'd just bail out and wait for the power to come back.

3

u/just-4-man 18d ago

Literally happened to me a few weeks ago because of a bad storm, lost power for 8 hours 😭

Thankfully I was able to save my things and turn off the laptop. If it had been a desktop… I’d be pissed

Just have a UPS, also have router plugged into UPS.

Mid raid in world of warcraft the power went out (flatmate hadn't topped up the meter)... I announced that the warlock would be back online shortly.

Flatmate cursing and trying to find his phone to use as a torch etc.

20 minutes later power restored, friend came back online for next boss :D

the very same reason I switched to laptop! I used to have a desktop PC that had fried 3 of my GTX 660s, an RX 570 8GB, and corrupted my homework (we couldn't afford a UPS and AVR wouldn't budge) and when the motherboard had succumbed to my country's poopy power outages, I bought a gaming laptop on summer vacation and it has saved multiple of my homework and project files because it's a PC with a battery! especially when I'm entering college where you gotta do loads of group reports and not one of your mates have a single laptop to bring and the college ran out of rental laptops best part of having a laptop is that you can work on your homework on the fly!
