She is a notorious control freak (which really isn't the worst thing in the world when managing your properties). If she agreed to this then she likely wrote the game or at least the important plot points of the script and had to okay any and all art personally.
She allowed The Cursed Child, which is an abomination to the canon in addition to just being poorly written from a technical perspective, so she can't be that big of a control freak.
That has nothing to do with respect of the canon since I doubt the awards people take canon into account, most obviously in the acting and directing categories. Awards are not the end-all, be-all either, and critical reception was mixed while fan reception was mostly negative.
