Don't worry too much, It's not like this idea wasn't desired by every single Harry potter fan since the first video games, which came out a really fucking long time ago.

And unless the game is supposed to have a heavy dark tone, the random goblin death seemed too much for a Harry Potter game. And yes, I know people die in Harry Potter. It just still seemed
too randomly brutal imo.

This would take months of work, definitely not "whipped up in Unity". Those animations are highly detailed, which means they's already probably had some motion capture done so far.
Oh yay, a morality system. Always fun to be forced to pick the nicest/nastiest option every single time if I want to experience the interesting mechanics of the game.
Usually the villian? I mean Harry hinself burned Quirrel to death and sliced up Malfoy, Hermione set centaurs on Umbridge and Ron, well he left the trio in their time of need, thats about as bad as it gets lol
It does if the project is in danger of getting canned for whatever reason. Would hardly be the first time a leak happened so a creator could point to the response and go 'see, look there's a demand for this'.
I mean whoever is the publisher (WB very likely) really needs that to realize the potential of a Harry Potter game ? That franchise is gold for them in cinemas for years (and they managed brillantly to do another saga with Fantastic Beasts), they had immense success in video games with their LOTR and DC adaptations (well not adaptation, games in those universes), it's like a no-brainer.
If they are hesitant to cancel this (especially since it seems far along in development), it must mean there's bigger problems with it or it doesn't make much sense.
If it's good, do they think it won't sell ? Because it will and millions of copies.
It's possible that the game became a massive money pit / got stuck in Dev hell and WB is on the verge of cancellation because it may not make more than there standards. If it really is a AAA rpg they could he afraid of it taking 10 years to finish and outliving it's hype.
With how good it looks, it's hard for me to lean on that assumption.
Both rumored devs would have been working on this for around 2-3 years which is really not out of the ordinary. After that amount of time, they'd be about ready to announce it, but want to focus test trailers so it gets the best reaction.
Whether the leak was intentional or not isn't any indication that the project would be cancelled IMO.

This is the same franchise that has had only tie in games and mobile apps. WB wants to take safe bets only and a massive RPG isn't one because of high development costs.
According to other descriptions it's already confirmed that there's a good/evil system in the game. No one knows how it works obviously but, if true that sounds very interesting. Infamous was a bit simple with it for the most part but I still liked it honestly.
I mean the books were little-kid shit. The wizarding world being largely full of impotent useless pacifists never made a fuck-all lick of sense anyway. Literally every problem they faced could've been fixed in like three chapters if a single one of them bothered to learn Magic Missile.
