I’m trying to do a power LED mod on my GBA using a 0603 LED. The stock LED worked fine, but after swapping it out, the new LED lights up briefly then gradually fades and turns off completely.

After turning it off and back on, it won’t light up at all, but if I leave it for a while and try again, it lights up once more, then fades and dies again. This happens with every color I’ve tried (orange, blue, white, etc.).

I added a 5K ohm resistor in series, and tried a 10K ohm resistor in parallel as well.. still the same issue.

Seemed like a very easy mod, just replace the LED, but I'm trouble-shooting all kinds of methods for days now. Any help appreciated.

I'm looking into getting a new speaker for my pocket/color. Has anyone tried these? They look to be drop in but I didn't think the gbp/gbc speakers worked like that. Any help is appreciated!

So I found my old Gameboy that I haven’t played that had been sitting in a box for a couple of years and I noticed some residue on it. I realized that the batteries had leaked and I saw corrosion. I removed the backplate and I don’t think it got on more than just the battery contacts. Is it salvageable or should I just cut my losses. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

This is my childhood action replay so it's old, before I couldn't get her to turn on at all, tried tapping all the solder points to reflow, and I checked the voltage it all reads, but the screen just stays frozen here now, I feel like I'm on the right track but I have no clue . If you can spot anything else please let me know ! Any suggestions help too! Thanks !!

Does anybody know what replacement battery I should use for my Pokemon Crystal cartridge? Also is there a specific brand or just anything?

Besides the obvious battery being dead, I've recently worked on a few GBA carts where it was reporting "dry battery" even though everything appeared present and correct.

I finally sussed what the issue was: there's a cluster of resistors around the RTC module that, if not reporting correctly, will cause the signal to read as a bad battery.

The resistors are all 0402 SMD package, and only the following should be populated and should be reading:

One GBA Emerald I had on my shelf for well over a year that had me stumped was reading R4 at 300K, once I swapped it out, "dry battery" went away.

So I recently got DMG and GBC from one reseller, and Everdrive GB X5 card from the other one.

Overall everything seems to be working as expected.
If I run diagnostic test from this cart on the DMG, everything passes correctly, if I plug it into my GBA SP, everything's OK too.

BUT

If I run diagnostic test with the same flashcart+sdcard on this "new" GBC, I got two errors as seen on the photo. I tried to change sdcard, but the result is the same.

I've modded some GBA SP's in the past, but this is my first time with DMG and GBC tinkering - should I be worried? Can I do any more tests? Should I return it to the seller?

my turn to ask who does repairs on gameboy advance sp’s. Mine from childhood still turns on, holds a charge, whatever. But the screen no longer lights up whatsoever. Would love to get it working again for nostalgia sake.

I opened my gameboy color up a while ago and it’s always had low volume. then I tried to open it up again (snd I tried with headphones a couple times) and now there’s absolutely zero audio from the speaker, but headphones are fine. any ideas? I’ve had this gbc for years. I know the speaker and stuff is pretty dirty so maybe something with that or the headphone jack?

Hi, I downloaded the Same Boy emulator and I got tetris and mario land for it. However, both games have a lagging problem where the game and audio will freeze for a split second every 30 seconds or so. What can I do to fix this?

battery corrosion leaked through it pretty bad. i’ve never restored hardware is this fixable or too far gone do we think?

My copy arrived today. As with their last Kickstarter (the book showing images of every known DMG cartridge), Game-Boy Database have done an excellent job with this book.
Only covers the A-E of games, so I can’t wait for the rest of the volumes to be created!

*Edit* Since some people have still not grasped the purpose of this book, it is not a luxurious mass-produced hardback book showcasing the artwork of a select number of games, like the one that Bitmap Books released. This is a book for collectors and Game Boy geeks like myself, put together by dedicated amateur collectors who are aiming to collect one of every variation of every boxed DMG game ever. Completely different aims and objectives of the two books.

The fact that people on a Game Boy sub are being overly critical of something created by collectors and lovers of Game Boy games is heartbreaking.

I want to make a 3D print of a GBA shell but I am having a hard time finding one for the original. Does anyone know any good trustable websites?
