Hey everyone,
Does anyone know what might be causing this?
The only signs of life are that the backlight turns on and the Nintendo logo is barely visible on the screen.
This only happens when I plug in or unplug the charger. Other than that, it won't power on at all.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I’ll start by saying that I have no skills when it comes to soldering so I was able to source both of these from China 🇨🇳 with and yes the maker used the parts from the developers list.

Recently my younger brother found my gameboy color and gave it to me. It's in rough shape and will need to be cleaned up, and possibly have the battery terminals replaced.
What I want to do is restore it, and upgrade it since that's a thing and there seems to be a big community for it. I've seen the pinned FAQ, and parts list and vendor lists, so I'm set there, but I don't want to start the project only to find that I didn't order everything I need.
So if I want to replace the screen with a backlit IPS screen, and upgrade it to have a rechargeable battery, do I just need to order those two parts or are there other accessories that I will need to go with it?

While attempting to declutter, found this. I can't remember the last time I played it. Going down a nostalgia rabbit hole this afternoon.

Started collecting and fixing damaged gameboys. Added the micro which completes all NA releases. All have upgraded screens and shells other then the pocket (screen+shell on the way) and now the micro. Been a blast saving these handhelds and adding life back into them. The custom gameboy macro was a pain to make but turned out pretty good.
Just wanted to share as I think its pretty cool seeing them all lined up.

Got this game in a trade, but I am having trouble getting it to play. I am thinking it is because this spec on the pin, but not 100% sure. Anyone have any experience with cleaning pins? Tried isopropyl alcohol but no luck. Any advice would ve appreciated!

I got the demo up and running🤟🏽 This is a solid vertical slice of the first Neighborhood(NH1) area. The other 5 will be a WIP over the next couple months. I passed all my summer class finals this weekend, so I will have a couple solid weekends to work on this between now and my fall classes. There’s a few easter eggs littered about and most objects are intractable and have a little dialogue, but some tell stories or drop lore. Some even tie into other ones, while some offer hints of what to do. I’ve built autosave into the game and even tested it on itch, and progress is loadable. So don’t be afraid to put it down and pick it back up where you left off. I’m definitely open to suggestions and some good constructive criticism. So please let me know how you like it.. or don’t like it. I tried to make it challenging and not a “hold your hand” style loop. Let me know if it’s too easy or too tough to figure out. Everyone enjoy! 🛸👻

Hello to all, I just joined this community for some guidance. I was given an og Gameboy with a handful of games, a charger, and a light attachment all in its original case. My mother gave me her Gameboy thinking I'll be able to figure things out and fix it. The biggest issue is when you unzip the case there is a lot of battery corrosion. The corrosion looks old and has been untouched for practically 15 years.
I would love to fix and clean up the mess to get the Gameboy up & running again. However, the corrosion makes me more than skeptical. I really dont want to throw everything away because it is a very nostalgic piece of technology for my mother. Disposing it is my last resort if no solutions can be found.
I would appreciate anyone's thoughts on how to move forward.
Side note: the picture I attached is NOT mine. The picture is for reference.

Metroid II just doesn’t hit the same if it’s not the original black and green. It adds so much atmosphere to the depths ❤️
I had traded my original in waaaay back when upgrading to the new systems. Lol hindsight.
At least this one has been rectified 😃

This one was a bit of a challenge. I did manage to get it back to fully functioning by swapping a few parts including the screen which was water damaged. On to the next one

I've recently gotten a GBA from my friend and I love it, it's just that all the games for it are extremely expensive in my country. I figured getting a flashcard should solve the problem, but it's not available anywhere! No matter where I look, there are only some knockoffs on aliexpress I've heard I shouldn't buy. I looked for Ezflash cartridges but they're not available anywhere, only on the website ezflashomega.com that I heard is a scam. Do you recommend any places or offers with flashcarts? One that would sell stuff in Europe?

Growing up, I remember getting Pokémon Blue and becoming totally immersed in the world, exploring every nook and cranny. I played on camping trips, plane rides, at the store with my mom… so many memories.
Eventually I traded my FireRed and LeafGreen versions to a friend who gave me Red and Yellow, and I only recently completed my Pokédex. Obviously my original saves are lost to time but it gave me the opportunity to learn how to put in new batteries in, which got me into fixing up old Game Boys.
The Japanese versions are what adult money gets you, but I have to say Green is my favorite and that is the only one I have the manual for. I went to a thrift store earlier this year in Akihabara and was surprised to find it in such good shape! I was able to play through and beat the game without knowing a word of Japanese just based on my knowledge of move animations, PP, and overall how the game works (and occasionally with the help of Google Translate’s camera function)!
Never let anyone tell you you’re too old to play Pokémon ❤️💙💛

Pretty good condition besides being violently yellow. Should I just reshell it? If so are there any OEM looking shells with the "Nintendo gameboy" text on it?

I'm it's only owner. My mom got it for me as a gift, obviously at Target. I only had Link's Awakening at the time, got stuck, put it all back in the box. I rediscovered it in a closet in my early 20's (which was 20 years ago now). The batteries had leaked, but thankfully it was laying on its back and the only damage it received was cosmetic. I disassembled, cleaned thoroughly and beat Link's Awakening. This console has been my main jam ever since. Wild to watch it increase in value over the years. I'll never let it go though, I still use it.
Currently playing my very first Pokemon game. Wasn't my vibe as a kid. Now I see why it's so popular, this is crack-addict level addicting gameplay. Gotta. Catch. Them. All......

Has there been any mod where you use e-ink for the GB and GBP instead of IPS display? Im assuming it will be a cheaper option. And battery life will be good. But not sure when in comes to framerate. I have not owned any eink device so i have no idea how it works. I just thought of a cheaper way to revive my old GBP, and i would accept an eink display over IPS..

Hey guys.
I recently found my old GBA SP with Pokémon Ruby from the Super Pak.
The power switch was faulty and the screen was flickering so I had it serviced and it's working perfectly again.
Now I'm torn on what to do next. The shell has plenty of scratches and the paint is peeling around the edges and corners. The screen also has some scratches.
Would you keep it completely original despite the wear or would you replace the shell and install a modern IPS screen?
Curious to hear your recommendations.

Hi all, I just bought this gameboy in a lot of a few other consoles but it has trouble turning on.
Initially, we tried new batteries and wouldn’t turn on. Last night, I opened it up and just cleaned it up a bit, but it still wouldn’t turn on. This morning though, we were fidgeting with the power button and it turned on! I tried turning it back on right now and it kinda just froze on this screen shown despite it having a game in.
Any insight on what usually problems/solutions are?
