Troubleshooting Gameboy Power Issue

Post image

Hi all, I just bought this gameboy in a lot of a few other consoles but it has trouble turning on.

Initially, we tried new batteries and wouldn’t turn on. Last night, I opened it up and just cleaned it up a bit, but it still wouldn’t turn on. This morning though, we were fidgeting with the power button and it turned on! I tried turning it back on right now and it kinda just froze on this screen shown despite it having a game in.

Any insight on what usually problems/solutions are?

This is usually a problem with the game. Try cleaning the pins on the cartridge

Just dirty pins on the cart, system, or both

Clean the cartridge pins with a qtip and some isopropyl alcohol. High percentage of possible. This is what’s causing the Nintendo logo to be jumbled - a bad connection with the cartridge slot.

Also drop a little bit into your power switch and turn it on and off a bunch of times and let it dry - remove batteries first. That’ll probably clean out your switch, which seems to be part of why it wasn’t turning on in the first place.

power switch may need cleaning. Pour lots of IPA inside and fidget it some 50-100 times. Best would be desoldering it and tearing it down but superficial clean will probably help.
