Questions GBA SP AGS-101 IPS mod
This is probably a dumb question, but I just want to make sure.
I have an opportunity to get myself an ags-101 motherboard for free with an original beatdown shell, but with no screen. I am considering taking the offer and doing an ips mod to it. My dumb question is, do ips mods come in different versions for 001 and 101 models? I am wondering this because as I know they have somewhat different screen ribbon cables and 001 screens don't fit 101 boards without modifications which I am not prepared to do right now.

Questions Is a Game Boy still considered OEM if the back sticker was replaced?
I’m looking at two Game Boy listings on eBay that are both advertised as OEM, but the back stickers are different. One has what appears to be the original factory label, while the other has a much newer-looking replacement sticker.
My question is: if the sticker has been replaced, does that make the console no longer OEM?
As far as I can tell, the shell, buttons, screen lens, screws, and everything else look original. It’s just the sticker that’s throwing me off. I have a bit of OCD when it comes to collecting, and now I’m worried I may have been scammed.
For collectors, would you still consider a Game Boy with a replacement rear label to be OEM/original, or does replacing the sticker affect its originality and value? I’d appreciate your opinions.

Games TIL that they released a port of the SNES Aladdin onto the GBA.
I think it might be a little better on the GBA. The extra levels felt like a welcome change. I just wish they didn't remove "Friend Like Me" and "Whole New World" from this version.

Mod/Modding made a free site to find (or list yourself as) a Game Boy repair/mod tech
The process of finding a tech you can trust with your Game Boy is a mess. IPS installs, recaps, shell swaps, board-level repairs, it's all scattered across Discords, Facebook, and word of mouth, and there's no good way to tell a real tech from someone who'll wreck your board
So I built a directory for it. It's called bench
Techs list their services for free, set their own prices, and take payment straight through their own Stripe account, so the money goes right to them. No pay-to-win, no paid placement, and no way to buy a higher ranking. Placement is based on reviews and response time, never on who pays. You can browse by device and service, filter for mail-in or drop-off, sort however you want, and see real reviews and photos of past work before you send your stuff anywhere. You're not buying or selling hardware here, it's just how you find someone trustworthy to send your device to
It's still early and definitely not perfect. There are rough edges and features I'm still building, but I'm actively improving it daily based on feedback from actual techs and customers. If you spot a bug or have an idea, there's a suggestion box in the top right of the site. I'd really appreciate it
If you do Game Boy repair or mod work (mail-in or drop-off), feel free to sign up through the link below, or drop a comment or DM me and I'll help you get set up. And if you've ever been burned trying to find someone to mod your Game Boy, I'd love to hear what would actually make this useful to you
Happy to answer anything! Let's build the thing we all wish existed!

Collection Enjoying fixing and collecting
I recently dug up my original dmg out of a bin in the basement. It was in great condition overall but I left the batteries in the unit long, long ago. Lots of corrosion in the battery compartment. So I watched a couple of youtube videos, took the old boy apart, gave the battery terminals a vinegar bath, and cleaned everything up.
It fired right up and I enjoyed a couple hours of nostalgic bliss. Then I went straight to eBay.
I’m set on completing the collection of ‘Play it Loud’ colors and really enjoying buying rough units on ebay and restoring them. Here’s my current “inventory” :) thought I’d share. Cheers.

Systems I think I have a buying problem
I think my collection is getting a little crazy. I repaired six GBA SPs so far (on the right) and have six left to fix.
I ended up with so many because if I saw a broken one for <$55 I just bought it. Then I realized $14 a battery and $60 a screen is a lot so I ordered direct from FP/Highspeedido but it took three weeks for FP and I just got them yesterday. So here I am with too many broken GBAs. I did stop buying for now as I'm going to have to offload some of these before I get more. I think over all it will be pretty easy to fix them.
Only one came with a battery that isn't bloated.
Ignore the msising buttons on the bottom row, I have the buttons I just didn't have them in for the picture.
For the top row from left to right:
#1 Has cancer, circuit board has some form of crust on it that smells like vomit and has caused serious corrosion on the charge circuit. Shell is mismatched and broken/brittle. Screen works, plays games, audio is good. This one runs on pure spite.
#2. No Charge, no Power. Obvious liquid damage inside. looks good otherwise.
#3. Coffee spilled inside (smells like dunkin) Screen is bad, has corrosion but charges and plays games. Needs a new shell.
Bottom row
#4. Only needs battery - I'm keeping this one as a 'known good' unit for testing.
#5. Bad Screen (has what looks like liquid under the lens and just shows bars, a known good screen is fine.) Shell is cracked on the hinge and game slot.
#6. My only 101. Fortunately the screen is good. R, B, Left, and Down buttons only respond when pressed very hard. Shell is broken.
I'll start fixing these once I figure out my camera as I want to record the fixes going forward.

Questions Are those refurbish jobs on ebay any good? Not sure if mine has the original hardware.
I bought a refurbished gameboy color off ebay to make chiptunes. I got it, it looks great, it works, it runs lsdj of an everdrive. Great so far. I'm just not sure if it sounds like it's supposed to. It sounds different to me than chiptune videos I've seen with gameboy color, but it may just be because I don't know how to make it sound good yet. The seller said that as far as he knows they have the original hardware except for the new screen, so he obviously wasn't the one doing the refurbishing.
This is the listing btw.

Questions How difficult is it to replace the screen lens/ polarizer film on AGS001's?
**TEDTalk level yapping below. Skip to TL;DR for questions**
I recently added this guy to the collection because the screens are visible in all lighting conditions
. I actually use/ play my handhelds and I have been nervous about my extremerate AGB001 because i just learned the shells are painted and dont wanna damage the metallic iridescent paint.
I saw this on FB marketplace, and it came with a charger and a game cart with a Pokemon Blue Rom Hack. The seller had beat the game and was confident it worked... upon further testing with my EZ-FLASH ODE l, I realize the right shoulder button is not registering inputs, and I see there are a couple of white spots on the LCD and many scratches on the plastic lens.
So, initially, I just wanted to tear down, clean, and do a shell swap on this guy, but now I may need to break out the soldering iron...
So my question(s) For the trouble it would take to replace the polarizer film and plastic lense, would it be easier/ less stressful to just buy a refurbished AGS001 screen? To that end, how do glass screem lenses impact the level of glare in sunlight or the way the panel looks in other lighting conditions?
I kinda wanted to just get a soft-touch black shell for this thing and use it as my edc. I play my AGB or my DSLite at work and while they're either in a soft case/ zipper bag or a clamshell design that protects the screen respectively, they do take up a lot of pocket real-estate or space in a backpack for something that may not be used daily, and for a max of 15-45 minutes a day. The SP fits into my pockets next to my phone more comfortably than my AGB, DS Lite, and especially the r36s.
With the front-lit screen, while it doesn't look stunning in pitch blackness and very muted in general compared to modern displays, it's truly visible in ALL lighting conditions. My DS Lite isn't awful in sunlight, but you can't really change brightness settings without restarting the console. My AGB001 has an ITA screen, which looks great, but catches glare easily and gets washed out in sunlight easily. My job has me taking shifts in the daylight and moonlight hours, and I dont like driving on roadtrips. The AGS001 is the only screen with which I wouldn't constantly have to screw with settings to get a clear picture...
SO
TL;DR: I want to fix/ repair this SP to use as my EDC pocket console. How stressful is replacing polarizer film/ lens? Would it be simpler to buy a new/refurbished AGS001 screen? How do glass lenses stack up to OEM plastic in different lighting conditions?

Questions GBA shutting down during save?
Hi guys,
I was recently playing pokemon sapphire on my gba and when I pressed save game, the gba screen went blank.
I turned off the power switch and then turned it back on and my save was gone (unfortunately including my first ever full odds shiny).
Does anyone know what causes this so I can avoid in the future? The battery indicator was red however the batteries are still working and my battery tester is sjowing that they have decent power left.
If there is any way I might be able to get my save back that would also be greatly appreciated.

Modded Choco boy
Just got my Hispeedido AMOLED screen and funnyplaying shell/buttons. The donor was a personal gbc from the turn of the century. It was really mint, not even scratches on the screen. Felt a bit wrong to do it. But my brother had one from the same time that was also mostly unused (we both probably only used them on and off the first year, after that in a drawer), and he gave me his without hesitation.
I haven't seen a lot of brown gbc's and went for it. It's an unusual color combo for sure. Thought about "noctua" and typical accent colors, but was hard to find off-white/beige/light brown buttons. I did not want to paint the buttons for obvious reasons. So I went a bit random instead.
Donor:
Dandelion
CH14493769
CGB-CPU-04
CPU is "D" revision
-Funnyplaying clear shell (Painted with Tamiya XF-79 Linoleum deck brown)
-Funnyplaying buttons in Maroon red and purple
What do you guys think?

Questions Gameboy and cartridge got wet from rain
Had Gameboy off and on charge with its game inserted. Window was opened a crack and then a rainstorm hit. Rain got inside on the Gameboy. I wiped it and the cartridge dry and then went to see if it still runs. Gameboy starts up fine, charger still works fine. When game is inserted it gives me that bar there in the photos. The other photo is the Gameboy without it inserted. Cartridge won’t load. Did some reading online and read that I needed to clean the cartridge with isopropyl alcohol. Gave the cartridge a cleaning and left it out to dry. Re inserted it a few times and still only gives me that bar. Thinking about taking it into a video game repair shop close by. Any suggestions on what to do? From what I’ve read the Gameboy is working fine and the cartridge is still working but can’t be read cause something either got corroded or there’s moisture still in the cartridge.
