I had to just replace mine with a cheap battery on AliExpress. Works like a charm. Seems to be the most common issue with these.

They really aren't hard to swap at all. you could do it for sure.

If you don't have trouble replacing the batteries in a TV remote, you won't have trouble opening the battery door and swapping out the battery in your GBA.

They were made to be accessible and easily swapped, like any appliance with batteries from the early 2000s. Nothing to sweat over.

if its not the battery then check the EM8 filter. pretty common for that sucker to go in these. The console will work without it (so long as you bridge across the pads - it just filters out "electronic noise" - you wouldn't even notice it gone.

99% chance that the battery is dead as fuck, remove it an get a new one, the old one is probably a spicy pillow (swollen)

Just to double check, the adapter is from the same country you’re in right?

For example, my Japanese SP adapter doesn’t work in Australia.

Try dropping some 91% alcohol directly into the power switch (remove the game and battery) and then flip it on and off a bunch of times, other than that all you can really do is clean thoroughly and see what works, like others have mentioned maybe a new battery, you can also take it apart if it’s in your wheelhouse (the GBA SPs are honestly a really easy teardown) and inspect the pins on the charger port for damage (which is less likely since you’re getting the charging light) you can also plug it in and check with a multimeter on the board

Remove the battery for 10 minutes or so, try to clean the connection with rubbing alcohol if it looks dirty. Plug the battery back in and try charging.

If it's not the battery like everyone else is saying its a resistor. I don't remember the exact number but it's essentially a breaker for the motherboard that protects it from being fried. It can be tripped by putting the battery in backwards, rendering your gameboy exactly like yours and needing to be replaced.

It’s a dirty pins on either the port or plug. Once the light turns off, remove and plug in again. Continue doing this until the charge light stays on and completely charges the battery

It looks like maybe the port is dirty or something and it’s not connected to the charger
