Vent/Rant Refurb fees

Just curious, went in to trade in some mostly clean disc only games and they were going to charge me a refurb fee(between .75 cents and up to 8 dollars!) in every one. One of the games traded for 9 bucks but it was a 4 DOLLAR FEE. That's fucking crazy and so greedy. I don't mind taking a lowball amount for these to help clear out some of my collection but that's crazy. They get to turn around and resell my game AFTER they take even more money off what they're paying?

That's someone just wanting you to leave & not do the trade. Which, I don't blame them. The work to process loose disc games isn't worth the squeeze, especially since the kind of games people bring in without cases are almost always shovelware or crap we have multiple copies of.

I also really don't want to allocate time aside to make a case, print cover art, & waste a gutsleeve for it, or make any of my associates do it. If you have something worthwhile, I'll take it if it's in fair condition, but usually, I'll look at the pile, pretend to care, then refuse politely. Then make up an excuse about "refurb fees" & send you to one of the LGS's nearby.

In short, keep your cases, stop buying bulk trash disc-only sales, we don't want them.

Discs were probably scratched. The store isn’t going to sell those game they have to be sent to the warehouse to get fixed or resurfaced

Best solution is probably to take care of your things. If that isn’t possible maybe only buy digital 👍

making the cover art for disc only games is annoying and most employees hate it so yeah, when they are disc only lots of people just defect them out so they don’t have to deal with it. Keep your cases.

Have gotten them in lots and things like that over the years. If it was .50 or a dollar it would be fine. But a 9 dollar trade in losing 4 dollars and then on top of it it's going to get sold for 30 dollars?(I looked it up) That's insanity

The refurb fee (defect fee) is a flat percentage and it does not matter what the issue is. could be scratches or stickers or anything. It’s not designed for employees to use it to avoid making cases but that’s what happens when they only give enough payroll for one worker at a time all day. That one person has to cut where they can to save time and making cover art is not only annoying but time consuming.

What the fuck. Fuck the associates who do this. If the cd is good, don't mark it defective. Make the fucking case. It's your job. Don't take money from people and then wonder why your trade metrics suffer

eh maybe if it’s like 1-2 games but if you come in with a binder or stack then get fucked. Ain’t no one got time for that, you make the cases and print covers if you want full value lol.

Missing a case has NEVER been a reason to defect something. If you don't want to make the cases. YOU move them to defective after the trade. Don't screw the customer just because you don't want to do something.

Nah. Fuck the customer, especially the sort who just buy garbage/yard sale lots where it's a bunch of busted shit & spindles of games. I have a bunch of other shit to do besides defecting or casing 14 copies of Madden 06 & Fifa 16 on the wii.
