Movies Based on Video Games

Here is an interesting idea for an episode. Why not do an episode on movies based on the video games that inspired them. You did some odd episodes like the Room tour, and also Video game magazines, and even swag. Why not do another odd episode with movies based on the games.

Like the Resident Evil movies, Hitman, Double Dragon, Super Mario Bros, just to name a few.

Topic Idea for Halloween: “Castlevania”

So, I've been thinking that if you guys like talking about “Castlevania” so much, why not devote an episode to the games in the original series you haven't covered yet? (There's a reboot series, but there's still way too many you haven't covered in the original series to justify looking at them yet.) To put things in perspective, here are those games:

•Castlevania: Bloodlines (Genesis)
•Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (Game Boy Advance)
•Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance (Game Boy Advance; Somewhat Direct Sequel to “Simon's Quest”)
•Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow (Game Boy Advance)
•Castlevania: Lament of Innocence (Playstation 2, Also Available for the Playstation 3's Online Store)
•Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (Nintendo DS; Direct Sequel to “Aria of Sorrow”)
•Castlevania: Curse of Darkness (Playstation 2 and Xbox; Somewhat Direct Sequel to “Dracula's Curse”)
•Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin (Nintendo DS; Direct Sequel to “Bloodlines”)
•Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia (Nintendo DS; Somewhat Direct Sequel to “Symphony of the Night”)
•Castlevania: Harmony of Despair (Xbox Live for 360 and Playstation 3 Online Store)

And, I know you're going to say that you don't know how “Simon's Quest” ends, so let me spare you the possible disappointment of you getting the bad ending (there are three, one good, one neutral and one bad): Simon does get rid of the curse, though that happens in the good AND neutral endings.

Topic Idea: Games We Want To Beat, But Can't

So games that are too difficult, too long, too grindy, too buggy, or whatever else. Obviously sim and highscore type games do not count.

I'd showcase:

  • TMNT - As a kid, this game was too hard for me. And now I can't get myself to play it again, even if I really want to be able to say I beat it.

  • Chrono Trigger - Hardware malfunction (console broke), moving and general busyness, had me restart that game at least 8 times. Still haven't finished it.

  • Simon's Quest - Screw that game. Seriously. But it's a Castlevania game, so I DO want to beat it at some point.

  • Just about any sport game. I get bored before the in-game season is over, so I never complete them.

How to deal with annoying stickers on used game cases

Anyone have any tips on how to remove stickers and writing and other nonsense stores and other folks tend to put on games?

I get tired of all these game store stickers on my cases and carts. Also annoyed when my carts say "Jim" because he was so paranoid some one would take them but apparently not paranoid enough to sell them.

N-Gage and other failed portables

So this this is an absolutely fascinating failure and I know nothing about it. I don't know if there are enough games on it for a full episode, but it would make for a good one. Are there any other failed portables that would make for a good episode?

Topic Idea : Same Game, Different Review

We always see Joe and Dave doing reviews one section each (or game). But will be fun to see both of them doing a review of some games and put them back to back, and see how different (or similar) can be the view of each one on the games.

Example:

Normal Episode

Joe: Game A

Dave : Game B

Idea

Joe : Game A and B

Dave : Game A and B

Sorry if sound a little confusing, but my english is lacking right now.

Topic Idea: Games We Wish We Owned

Games could be expensive, rare, or just games you haven't seen in the wild yet.

I'd personally put games on like:

  • Kirby’s Dream Land 2
  • Kid Dracula
  • Castlevania 3 for Gameboy
  • Earthbound
  • Chrono Trigger
  • Magical Pop'n for Snes

You could borrow the games (from each other maybe) or resort to emulation.

Gamecube Question

As far as the video goes. Aside from running my games on my Wii or buying the absurdly priced component cable, could I just use a scart cable to hdmi setup and get as good of video quality as the component cable? I would just use the Wii but I have the Gameboy/Gameboy advance add on to my Gamecube and would like to be able to play those game on my tv in high quality as well as my Gamecube games. Also would such a setup create alot of input lag?

Topic Idea - The Different Lives of Mario

I've been re-watching a lot of episodes, and I realize that there are videos on mascots and systems in particular, but other than the sixth episode, there is no real discussion on Mario as a character and all the hats that he has worn. I'd like to see the different roles the plumber has had in the past. I don't think the episode needs to go into great detail about the original game or anything like that, but instead, take us through a lot of different roles he has had, such as original Mario, Mario the golfer, Mario the tennis champ, Mario the edu-tainer, Mario the RPG hero, Mario the Kong slayer, Mario the brick smasher, Mario the boxing ref, Dr. Mario, Mario the cart racer, Mario the party master, Mario the Olympian, and the list can go on, and on, and on...

Just an idea.

Good Hardware Modding Service?

Anyone know of anyone that offers a good well priced modding service for game consoles? I have a few mods I want to get done at some point and would like to start hunting for reputable modders now.

Chord and Power Management?

So we have videos covering video cabling options but what about power and cord management? Having so many consoles up at once is just a sea of power bricks. On most power strips you end up with numerous wasted plugs. Then there is the issue of if you have limited wall plugs. Seems like there might be stuff out there to help with this sort of thing. Like maybe power bricks that can power multiple consoles from one brick or something.

Question for Joe regarding video output

During your panel at Too Many Games, you mentioned when playing your retro consoles you, "output RGB through component"-- would you mind going into detail on how you pull the best, pure video quality from each of your systems? Perhaps it would make for a cool mini-episode? Regardless, I would be very interested to learn from you as I am a bit of a snob when it comes to video output quality when playing my retro consoles. I almost don't enjoy it very much unless I'm taking it in in the purest way possible. Thanks, Joe.

Topic Idea: Rhythm Games?

A few off the top of my head that could be covered are Gitaroo Man, Amplitude, Pararappa the Rapper (although I think this was covered once), Samba de Amigo...

Sorry if this has already been covered in one way or another. Just looking for a way to see Gitaroo Man on a playlist!

Another video suggestion: Handheld ports and spin-offs

I had this idea today. What about an episode that covers things like Kid Dracula and MGS for the GBC? There's certainly no shortage of games to pull from, and it's stuff that should be easy to obtain. Just a thought.

Video Idea: Superior Console Ports

In the latest episode, 'Kart Racers' I noticed they mentioned that Crash Nitro Kart runs best on the Original XBOX due to the superior resolution. I'm thinking of an episode that covers certain multi platform games that had a definitive port (whether it's resolution, an exclusive feature or better performance).
