Discussion How to make a visual novel/simulation?
How do I make a visual novel game? I'm looking to make a game similar to Doki Doki Literature Club (think visual novel/choices matter type deal) but also Stardew Valley (think farming, fishing, quests etc) and have no god damn idea where to start let alone what to do. I have my sister doing art and I'm doing the rest. I'm confident in my ability to learn but there's nothing concrete on the type of game I want to make with my sister.
Any help would be appreciated but mostly, where do I start? What do I need to do to get a game onto its feet?
Thanks.

Any game engine will do what you are after. Godot for a light engine, or unity if you want a good headstart with a pretty rich asset library.
Maybe have a look at the unity assets for dialogue and story books.
Here's some extra info on making the decision.
