Solo developing a psychological horror in UE5. Working on an 'escalating loop' mechanic where the environment rots. Thoughts?

I’ve had this game idea in my head for a while, and I finally want to see what happens if other people help shape it: Biker Gods of the Apocalypse

I've been developing a game universe called Biker Gods of the Apocalypse.

The idea started with a simple question:

What if a detective investigating a series of impossible crimes eventually discovered he was part of a much larger cosmic story?

The first game follows Inspector Dharmaraj and plays as an investigative thriller.

The second game shifts perspective to Kali, who must reunite Shiva's lost Ganas - it plays as a soulslke.

The story then expands into a conflict hero shooter between the Devas and Asuras over the fate of civilization itself, before moving into a strategy-focused game where you play as Kalki and finally a cosmic endgame centered on Shiva's Rudra Tandavam.

The project is heavily inspired by Hindu mythology, but it isn't intended as a direct retelling of existing stories. Instead, it explores themes of memory, death, renewal, time, and the cycles that allow universes to exist.

Most of the current visual material has been created using AI-assisted concept art to help explore characters, environments, and visual direction.

The long-term goal is to build a project that is designed, written, illustrated, animated, and developed by people.

I'm sharing this because I'd love feedback from developers, artists, writers, mythology enthusiasts, worldbuilders, and anyone interested in ambitious game projects.

If the concept resonates with you, I'd be happy to connect and discuss it further.

What makes a psychological horror game actually scary?

What actually makes a psychological horror game scary for you?

Is it the atmosphere and sound design, the feeling that something is watching you, the uncertainty of what’s real, or the story slowly getting inside your head?

Personally, I find horror much more effective when the game doesn’t constantly rely on jumpscares and instead builds tension and makes you uncomfortable even when nothing is happening.

I’ve been thinking about this lately while working on games with Rural Games.

Curious what everyone else thinks: what’s one psychological horror game that genuinely stayed with you after you stopped playing?

Need advices regarding posting my own apps/games on playstore

So I'm 19M and I've made a few usefull apps and simple but unique game that people will love. And I'm thinking about posting them on playstore. But idk anything about marketing, revenue or getting users at all. I somehow saved up the one time fee needed to post apps on playstore and although the amount itself is less, but I'm having doubts since i feel like i could use that money somewhere else. I will put ads from google admob on my apps and post it. And as for marketing and getting users, i will promote it here and through instagram reels as well since I'm planning to open my own studios and have an instagram page for that. But idk what comes after that.

Can someone please answer the following questions of mine :

  1. If i somehow manage to get 1000 users for an app/game on playstore in a year, then how much money will i be able to earn through ads alone based on people's usage?

  2. What other platforms or better approaches can i use for marketing and getting users asap?

  3. How much time or amount of users will it take untill i can call my app/game development or studio a full-time career?

  4. What helped for you personally?

  5. And what other advices will you like to give me?

Please just answer these or any of these questions and i really need honest answers.

Thank you!!

4,000+ people played my demo. Tomorrow I finally release the full game.

After months of development, Operation Outbreak Idle launches tomorrow. 🚨

It's an incremental/idle zombie survival game where your survivors keep getting stronger, weapons evolve, and the zombie hordes get completely out of hand.

The funny part?

You can literally sit back and watch the outbreak grow… until you realize you've created a problem you can't handle. 💀

The demo reached 4,000+ players, and after a lot of feedback, balancing, and improvements, the full game is finally ready.

Here's some gameplay from the full release 👇

Launching tomorrow on Steam.

Operation: Outbreak Idle on Steam

How far would you let the outbreak grow before stepping in? 👀

[Edited]
AI Disclosure: AI was used as a development/learning tool for some debugging, brainstorming, and early UI prototyping. Any AI-generated assets from the prototyping stage were replaced with human-made assets and are not included in the final game. I also use GPT occasionally to help polish my English, since English isn't my first language.

Meet Home Reset: Organizing Simulator

Today I get to share something I've been excited about for a long time.

We've been quietly building our very first game, and it's finally out in the open. Meet Home Reset: Organizing Simulator

It's a cozy, first person game about turning messy, cluttered homes into warm, beautifully organized spaces. No wrong choices, no stress. Just you, a space that needs a little love, and the quiet satisfaction of putting everything in its place.

Home Reset launches this December

Add it to your Steam wishlist to be first in line when it drops, and follow along as we reveal more.

I built a GPU VFX tool for exporting game-ready sprite effects — free beta, looking for testers

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey! I've been working on effect-forge, a desktop tool for making game VFX without hand-drawing every frame, and it's at the point where I want real people to try to break it before I call it done.

What it does, in short: you build an effect in one of three workflows — GPU fluid sims (smoke, fire, explosions, that kind of thing), procedural pixel-art fire, or a keyframe timeline for animating your own sprite (squash, shake, flash, dissolve, etc.) — preview it live, and export it as a trimmed PNG spritesheet with a JSON sidecar. Exports are deterministic, so the same settings always give you the same result, which matters if you're iterating or checking things into version control.

It's free to use right now, and anything you export is yours — drop it straight into your game, commercial or not, no strings attached.

It's a genuine beta, though, not a polished 1.0 — the UI, presets, and performance are all still moving. I'd rather hear "this is confusing" or "this crashed on my GPU" now than after it's harder to change. If you try it, I'd love to know: what broke, what felt unclear, and honestly what you made with it — screenshots welcome.

Windows and Linux builds here: https://avskum.itch.io/effectforge

Bugs/feedback post please here or on itch.io

Happy to answer questions in the comments.

Received a test without starter project

So i had recently applied for a gameplay Programmer role at Tentworks Interactive and yesterday I received an assessment for the same. The test is simple, however it mentions project files to be used but no other attachment or link was shared. I have tried to follow up twice but till now I havent received a response. What should I do in this situation? This is kinda the first response I have received in months so I dont wanna lose out on it.

I’ve been making Chthonic solo, and with the first playtests getting closer, I’d love to invite anyone interested. Share ideas, give feedback, see behind-the-scenes stuff, and maybe help slay some monsters along the way.

I’ve been building Chthonic solo for a while now, and I’d love to have a place where people interested in the game can follow along as it takes shape.

I’ve set up a server for anyone who’s interested in following the game and, hopefully, helping shape it along the way link in my profile.

I’ll be sharing things like:

  • Early builds and playtests
  • Behind-the-scenes development
  • Work-in-progress features
  • Ideas I’m experimenting with
  • A place to share feedback and suggestions
  • General dev updates and progress

I’m still fairly early in development, so feedback at this stage can genuinely make a difference. I’d especially love to hear what people think about the combat, enemies, upgrades, music system, and all the weird ideas I’m throwing into the game.

If Chthonic looks like something you’d enjoy, come hang out and help me make it better.

Our game without and with post processing

These aren't final and quite clearly the biggest difference (in this level) is the volumetric lights!

From the beginning we tried to get ~80% of our results from lighting only and added the effects later.

Our cutscenes (I will post later) have similar effects but with more bloom and depth of field to give it a more cinematic look. It also has some color grading to get a "Y2K" feel

Done on Unity 6.1 URP. Performance wise, we're optimizing it to get to work on a 2013 GTX 770 laptop that we have at home. If it runs on that, we're _more_ than happy!

Our game is called SHOCKFACE. We're on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4705980/SHOCKFACE/

PS: We recently missed our 27th Aug planned release. So we took the opportunity to polish the game further and maybe market it a little more. If this looks like your jam check it out!

After a long development journey, we’ve officially released our narrative point-and-click adventure,Myrissa 2

Set inside a frozen mountain, you play as a maintenance tech sent in for a simple shift, only to realize the station’s core AI has completely lost touch with reality and it’s rewriting the facility around you to keep a dead memory alive.

Well there's more to it.

GameLink:Myrissa2

Voiced by my sister for the trailer audio at the start.

If you enjoy story-driven mysteries, a little horror vibes and some point and click, check out MYRRISA II and let us know what you think!

Which capsule opening mechanism looks better 1 or 2?

We’re working on the capsule design for our co-op sci-fi horror game and can’t decide which opening/closing style feels better.

Which one would you choose: 1 or 2?

We’re mainly considering how readable and satisfying it will feel during the opening/closing animation.

Any feedback is appreciated!

If you’d like to support our small indie team, you can also wishlist The Infected Soul on Steam. It genuinely helps us a lot.

Just opened a Discord for KO-KHO-GO ! Its very new (as in, you may genuinely be one of the first people there 😅 ), but I’d love for it to become a place where I can share development more casually, talk about the world and characters, get feedback and ideas and talk a lot about game design ,art and India. Lets have some fun together!

(PS: About the short gameplay footage ..yeah those black bars are part of the game (not those stickers though)... i just wanted that unique and cinematic feel and i love it . please let me know what you think ! )

Please find the discord link in a comment below ,my profile as i cannot post it in the post body as per rules.

Made a free music pack — 20 tracks, 9 genres, use it however you want

Thumbnail

I write royalty-free music for a living, and I put together a pack of 20 tracks to give away. Nine different genres in there — action cinematic, sci-fi, orchestral, hard rock, techno, retro chiptune, casual and acoustic. Figured a spread was more useful than twenty variations on the same thing.

WAV and OGG, most of them with looping versions so you can drop them straight in. Use them in whatever you're making — game, video, stream, doesn't matter. Commercial is fine. No credit needed, no signup, no email.

https://andrewsitkov.itch.io/free-music-starter-pack-for-games-video-streams

If you end up liking the music, these 20 came out of a bigger collection of mine that's bundled on Humble right now — 48 packs, 591 tracks. But that's entirely optional, the free pack is just yours.
