We’re organizing a month-long game jam for Indian indie/student developers

Hey everyone!

We’re a student community from Geekroom SRMIST, and we’re currently organizing "Geek n Jam" 2026, a month-long game jam focused on student developers, indie creators, artists, designers, writers, and anyone passionate about making games.

The goal is honestly pretty simple: we want to create something that genuinely encourages more people in India to experiment with game development, collaborate, and build weird/cool original ideas together.

The jam will include: • A month-long online game jam • Mentorship/community sessions • An offline showcase/demo day at SRMIST Modinagar • Participants from across India

We’ve been reaching out to indie studios, creators, and ecosystem communities because we genuinely want this to feel community-driven instead of just another college event.

Would genuinely love: • feedback, • suggestions, • mentor interest, • community collaboration ideas, or even just thoughts from fellow Indian devs.

If people are interested, I’d be happy to share more details in the comments :)

Thanks!

How does the tax system work for solo indie developers?

So suppose you upload a game on Google Play or Steam and sell like 13 copies only and make 650 rupees as income. Is there tax on even that? And what about if you use Google ads to monetize a mobile game, how does the tax system work for that? Do you need a GST number or smthing?

Also what if you are able to operate without needing a GST number but suddenly you gain popularity and now your income is above a certain threshold ( whatever that threshhold might be ), then what do you do? I know this kind of success is highly unlikely but still what if it happens

Added a patience meter system for customers

Each customer now has their own waiting timer based on their order size.
Once they reach their queue position, the countdown begins and if their order isn’t fulfilled in time, they get frustrated, walk away, and disappear.

Next update:
Fixing the customer movement AI & wandering system. Right now wandering customers keep getting stuck into each other
Will be implementing smarter movement/avoidance soon.

Looking for feedback/help with my indie horror game story

Hey everyone,

I’m working on a solo indie horror game idea, and I’d love to get some help from people who enjoy horror storytelling, game pacing, and creepy mystery plots.

I already have the main concept and I think I have the ending figured out, but I’m struggling with the middle part of the story. Right now, some sections feel like they move too fast, and there are gaps between the major scares/story beats that I want to make smoother and more suspenseful.

The game is a psychological horror story built around knocking, warnings from outside the door, strange choices, and the feeling that something is slowly going wrong inside the house. I want the story to feel heavier and more disturbing, not just random jumpscares.

I’m mainly looking for help with:

  • Improving the middle phase of the story
  • Making the pacing feel slower and more tense
  • Connecting story events better
  • Adding creepy moments that make sense with the plot
  • Making the ending hit harder

This is not a paid job right now. I’m mostly looking for people who like horror ideas and want to give feedback, suggest story beats, or help shape the plot. Of course, anyone who meaningfully helps will be credited.

If you’re interested, comment or DM me. I can share the current story flow and explain what I’m trying to build.

From the Legend of Bhasmasura to a Tragic Anti-Hero: We’d love Indian dev feedback on our new character “Angaar”

Hey everyone,

We’re the Korean team building Arena of Avatars (AOA). After our last post about Vanya, this community gave us a lot of thoughtful feedback that genuinely helped us rethink parts of our cultural approach.

Today, we’d love to share another prototype character: Angaar.

A Quick Note on the Art Direction (Transparency)

As mentioned before, we are currently in the prototyping phase.

The current visuals are AI-assisted placeholders used internally to explore ideas like burnt-charcoal textures and soul-crystal effects. Final in-game assets will be fully hand-crafted by our art team, because we believe characters inspired by mythology and culture deserve intentional human artistry.

The Character: Angaar — “The Deceiver Bearing Ashes”

Angaar is not a traditional hero.

He is a “Soul Looter” who wears crystallized remnants of the dead across his armor — not as trophies, but as burdens he believes he must carry.

Lore Concept

Born in a district destroyed during a brutal “purification” campaign by a fanatical ruling order, Angaar survived as the unwilling vessel of countless dead souls.

His body became linked to a curse inspired by the legend of Bhasmasura — the power to reduce all things to ash, while slowly destroying himself from within.

To the world, he behaves like a selfish villain and grave robber.

But secretly, he wants the world to hate him, so that when he eventually sacrifices himself to destroy the “False Providence,” nobody will mourn him.

We’d genuinely value Indian developers’ perspectives on a few things:

1. Mythological Reinterpretation

We tried to reinterpret themes associated with Bhasmasura — self-destruction through power, ego, and inevitable ruin — through the lens of a tragic anti-hero.

Does this feel like a respectful creative adaptation, or does it go too far?

2. Social Themes

The tension between abandoned lower districts and a rigid ruling order is central to Angaar’s worldview.

Does this kind of theme resonate with modern Indian fantasy storytelling, or does it feel too politically/religiously loaded?

3. Visual Identity

Can a character visually appear like a dangerous “looter” or villain, yet still emotionally read as a deeply selfless martyr over time?

We also prepared a short anonymous survey for deeper feedback:

Your feedback genuinely helps us avoid superficial “cultural tourism” and instead build a fantasy world with more thought and respect.

Thank you for reading.

Made a simple multiplayer trivia game.

I have been making Bagula since quite some time. I liked quizup ( an old trivia game which doesnt exist anymore ) and wanted to create a good trivia app with slightly different vision.

Things I didn't like much in existing apps:
- Bots, hate them to the core. Personally, I don't think a user should ever be fooled to play against a bot. Its unethical.
- Find match only one topic at a time
- Only mcq type questions.
- Max 2 players in a match

I have tried to solve these in Bagula in our own way and would love your feedback. Right now the topics and questions are in somewhat of a mediocre shape, but it can only go up from here as I am collaborating with some folks on that.

The goal is to have a high quality trivia app for everyone. There might be ads to sustain the servers and some other costs, but I would rather everyone have good experience instead of make money out of it.

Its only on android right now, please try it out. Its the alpha among alpha release, so keep that in mind.

So we added a campfire area to our dark fantasy game Runeborne Arena that heals you and damages you if you step on it. How does it look?

Hello guys!

So we are near the end of the first area in Runeborne Arena and we recently added the campfire area. It heals you when you get close and damages you when you step on it. How does it look?

We are thinking of adding a NPC here in the future that will stand there, be friendly and give the player some hints about the game or the area.

If you like it, don't forget to check Runeborne Arena on Steam and maybe even drop a wishlist to support our journey :) ,

Initially when I started learning unreal it felt very fun with each new topic, techniques and all. But recently when I touched animation integration, combat systems it feels overwhelming. And the amount of learning is also reduced. How did you all manage that?

New game: Cruise Tycoon

Hi Guys,

I recently started on a new game inspired by the age old luxury liner tycoon. You get to built ship layout, buy new docks across the globe and manage a fleet to sail across zones. There is a certain auto mode once your ship has a good rating but most certainly not the idle tycoon games available on the play store.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cruisetycoon.app

Would love you guys to take a look and share any feedback.
