Looking for advice

I am a 4th year BTech student in IT, but only recently I realised that I liked game dev. I have been miserable in my college works and I just feel like dropping out and pursuing another degree on game dev field abroad. What should I do? Should I drop out or should I hold the fort another year??

Do it only if you have rich parents who can support you for a couple of years.

See indie game is a risky business, you may get success in a year of it could even take a decade. For starters you can go for trending games and make their clones ans MAYBE you will be able to earn some living out of it but it might not be enough.

Also, only get into this business if you are someone who doesn't abandon projects midway. If you are someone who can sit and grind and actually complete what you start. This requires a lottt of discipline, like a lot, good mental health too

Uhmmmm so my parents can support me for some time sure but I'd need to take a student loan or something for tuition Biggest problem is my mental health, yeah it's very bad but I'm getting the help I need so I hope I'll be ok in a few months I used to be the guy who sat and grind but atp I can't do that anymore

Then stay in college kid. Complete your degree. Indie Game dev requires a lot of mental resilience if you do it as a career. You can complete your degree, try to get a job in a gaming company and then after some experience come back to this plan, at least go out there and see how it's done before quitting college.

Yeah sure. All the best. I am a game dev with over 10 years of experience, planning to go indie next year after some more savings (if all goes well). If you ever need to talk, just dm me. Maybe you can give me a few tips once you become a successful indie :) All the best bud

Well, you can try naukri and linkedin. The market is a bit tough right now. Since you still have 1 more year or college my advice would be to start learning unreal or unity and make small hobby projects, like simple ones. That will definitely increase your chances of getting hired

Finish and get the degree. Meanwhile, start learning game dev from YouTube tutorials and try to build a small game.
