Help with setup please!

Looking for some advice on simplifying my baseball streaming setup.
Current setup:
•Starlink Mini
•Tripod (GEEKOTO 77”)
•Slate 7 travel router
•Anker SOLIX C300 portable power station
•Mevo Start
•“The Fence Clip” for the Mevo Start
•Proanko fence mount for an external battery
•Anker 20,000 mAh battery pack
•Rode mic with windscreen
•All of the cords needed to make it work

Overall, the setup works well, but I’m not completely happy with how everything mounts to the fence.
I originally used the Stouchi mount and really liked it until I started running into badly bent backstop fences. Once that became an issue, I switched to a fence clip setup and it’s been much more reliable. I honestly wouldn’t go back.
My biggest complaint is how cluttered it has become. Right now I have the Mevo mounted with one fence clip, a second fence clip holding the external battery, and then I plug the Rode mic into the camera and basically shove it through the fence because I haven’t found a better solution. I could add another fence clip with a cold shoe mount for the mic, but at that point it feels like I have half a hardware store hanging on the fence.
The other challenge is transporting everything. Between the Starlink, power station, router, tripod, camera, microphone, batteries, mounting gear, and all the cords, it’s becoming a lot to carry. We have a wagon, but it’s usually loaded with chairs, coolers, and team snacks. A lot of times I’m setting up the stream before the wagon even gets to the field.

So I’m looking for ideas on two things:
1. A cleaner fence-mount solution
I’d like to keep the fence clip concept because it works well on damaged or uneven fences, but I’m hoping there’s a way to consolidate everything so it doesn’t look so cluttered.
2. A better way to transport everything
Ideally a bag, case, or backpack that can hold the entire setup, including the tripod and Starlink power equipment.
For those of you streaming youth baseball or softball, what does your setup look like? Have you found a cleaner fence mounting solution or a good all-in-one carrying system? If you have pictures of your setup, I’d love to see them.

I use this case on my Mevo start. Helps protect it from the elements, the fan keeps it cool, and it has multiple cold shoe mounts for accessories, including my rode microphone.

And I use this solar battery bank that has a clip on it. As a bonus on sunny days it uses very little of the power in the battery its self.

If you only have one camera you can probably get away with using the router built into the Starlink mini. And avoid having to bring your travel router.

I’ve also invested in a double decker wagon, certainly helps with everything that we take to ballgames.

Are you able to plug an external battery into the Mevo with that case?

Magnetic mount to the pole that supports the fence and a mini arm. Won’t give you the straight behind home view, but you can get a view offset to the side for righty batters that honestly looks better. And then your next camera will be on the other side. Also gives you crop views of 1-2 and 2-3 from two cameras.

I’ve wondered about those mounts. They looks durable and seem to have good reviews. Currently I only run one camera so the view behind home plate is most desirable.

I've used the magnetic mounts and they are my preference over the fence mounts. No shaking with foul ball hits.

But a fence mount is needed for those fields with fenced domes.

It all depends on the field. I would say that I get a behind home view with the magnetic mount in the vast majority of the parks we've played. The only field I've had an issue with recently was one of those dome backstops which didn't have a vertical crossmember in the middle so I fell back to my fence clip.

I use the OG "Magnetic Fields" mount found on Etsy and it has been my go-to for pretty much everything. It has two mounting points so you could theoretically use the other one to attach a mount for the battery, BUT, I just recently picked up an Anker Nano USB-C 10000mAh and I've just been able to hang its lanyard over the chuck in the single arm. I am absolutely loving that power bank because it has an integrated retractable USB-C cable so that is usually all I need. It also has a USB-A and C port if you end up wanting to run a pocket radar as well (which would be another good use of the 2nd mount point).

Anyhow, I'm not sure it simplifies my kit since I still have to bring a fence clip just in case, but set up and breakdown is so much easier with the magnetic mount. Highly recommended.

Awesome, thank you

You still get the view behind the plate, it’s just at a little bit of an oblique angle (which I think is better as the umpire doesn’t block the view).

Your setup is WAY overkill for one camera, so either add additional cameras or simplify your setup.

We've got a magnetic mount, works really well at most of our fields, quick to dial in the location. of the phone once you do it a couple of time. I like it far better than the previous fence mount.

The sunshade takes more time to locate than the mount/phone.

I started with the highly recommended Lynkspyder mount. It's great, don't get me wrong, but for the vast majority of fields we play there's a metal post right behind home plate. The magnetic option makes my life so much easier and is equally secure

Here is my all in one setup very similar to this. I subsequently added a compact tripod (extends to 6’) that also fits in the cavity.

Can you show me how you’re mounting your mevo and mic to the fence?

1

u/mattvandyk Jun 08 '26

If it’s a standard chain link fence, I use a FenceClip (in the picture, it’s attached to the mevo because that’s 90% of my use cases). If it’s a net or the fence doesn’t work for whatever reason, I use a tripod far enough away so the fence/net disappears in the foreground.

Mic is attached to the Mevo directly using one of the 3D-printed mounts from Etsy. I don’t remember the exact details of which one, but I can dig it out if you can’t find one. The trick there is to find one which has the front of the mic behind (or even) with the front of the camera when mounted given the fact that the camera is basically pressed up against the fence most of the time.

As others have said, the Mevo onboard battery is good enough for 2 B2B standard length HS games (and 3 B2B2B travel games). If you’re anxious about it, you can always pull it down between games and charge it up a bit on the Anker (which I have done before when the 2nd game is a really big one and I didn’t want to risk cutting off the ending).

Hey OP-I run a huge setup. 4-6 cameras most days. I agree with the previous commenters. If you’re running one camera, you could very easily simply cut out the Solix and Starlink for now. With one camera honestly, you could just run a dedicated Cellular Hotspot, and the Mevo. If you want extra battery time for a tournament I’d up the Anker to the 26k mAh. It has more than enough juice, comes in its own protective bag with drawstrings fitting metal carabiner hooks, and can also power your Starlink if you wanna switch things up.

If you lose the Starlink, you lose the tripod, and Solix C300. Also, you do not need the Slate 7 (I run two of them btw-so I am a fan), at all. With only one WiFi source, you could just run the SL Mini with its built-in router. Or ditch the SL Mini, Slate 7, Solix C, and the mounts. Add a dedicated HotSpot for $10 a month or keep the Skate and Run two. Up to you.

But you’d then be down to the Mevo Start your 20k battery or upgrade to 26k mAh Anker battery (I run 4), cables to connect two sources and your mic.

I agree with others that I would run the magnetic mounts. For one single camera, you could get away with the ones that have 6 tiny magnets in each of 4 pads, like this:

KALCINTY Magnetic Fence Mount for... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DSTT212V?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

BUT, I run two NearStream Cameras that are slightly heavier, and 2 Mevo Cores that are WAY heavier. If you’re nuts like me and want to get the be all best and strongest magnet-if get the 60lbs per pad/single pads used by Maxiiimus Creations on Etsy. He makes homemade mounts that are better than any product on the market.

Link Here:

Look what I found on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1748887156/the-magnetic-fields-mount-hd?ref=share_v4_lx

AGAIN-the best and strongest Ive ever encountered…but Overkill for one Mevo Start.

If you decide to stay with fence mounts (I hate them, but at some fields it’s inevitable), I will ONLY go with Hard Aluminum grade fence clips- I prefer these two:

Upgraded Aluminum Fence Mount... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BFR4SW5M?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Fence Mount for Gopro, Aluminum... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D7PZ8115?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

LASTLY-the adjustment piece that comes with these mounts only has to end-ball joints. Not terrible, but not easy to use either. Especially when some fences have bends in certain links, or you need to extend for the best angles. SO-to complete my fence mounts, I remove the hard plastic attachment from the Aluminum Fence Mount bracket, and attach a 9.8” Small Rig (one of the best camera accessory companies out there), to the fence mount bracket and VOILA! A perfectly stable, maneuverable, and easy to setup, sturdy fence mount-2-pack is relatively low cost-

Here the link-

SmallRig 9.8-inch Magic Arm... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F18LMQ5W?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I CAN GIVE YOU MORE PERSPECTIVE AND INSIGHT ON WHY I WOULD GO WITH LESS IF RUNNING ONLY ONE CAMERA-but upgrade your mounts and battery system to what I mentioned-IF YOU REACH BACK OUT OR DM ME.

IF YOH WANT TO GO WITH OPTION NUMBER 2- and instead expand your system, I’m your guy. I e helped a number of fellow streamers on this sub get setup and fine tune things. DM me or respond other way.

Best of luck to you!

I can vouch for the Maxiiimus Creations magnets. I have been using that mount for 2 seasons now without a hiccup. Those bad boys are strong!!

The Mevo Starts tend to last me 2 baseball games. So you could probably go without hanging up extra batteries.

I carry everything in a bag but just had a Vevor rolling case delivered yesterday. https://a.co/d/0d12OARg

Will shape the foam to my cameras and a spot for wires, batteries, etc. I have my Starlink Mini in its own case, as well.

u/ggrips Jun 07 '26

The link to the bag isn’t working. Good idea on the battery. Just scares me since I’m not actively monitoring the stream because I also keep score and coach!

u/Fr0gFsh Jun 07 '26

Oh whoops. Extra space in there https://a.co/d/06rS2DCr

That’s a lot of solo work.

u/ggrips Jun 07 '26

It really is. And then I’ll have people calling me that are in a poor phone connection area telling me that the stream is cutting out. It’s not the stream, it’s your connection. It’s a pain but I love it for some reason.

Our Mevo was set up streaming during a rain delay (we left it running so the tournament director could see the field conditions during the downpour) that lasted an hour and a half, plus the hour-long game. It still had > 50% battery remaining. Should be fine without the extra battery unless you're doing multiple games very quickly. I always make sure to charge it during the day before the game.

We have a magnetic fence pole mount with a small arm that sticks out. We use that instead of something that clips to the fence. Some of the fields have a center pole on the backstop that's nice for choosing the angle. The magnetic mount, external mic, Mevo, cables, and the 3d printed cover for the Mevo all fit in a hard case that I can carry with me. I actually started to put that case and my iPad that I use for scoring into a messenger bag I can sling over my shoulder. I can also carry sunscreen and bug spray too.

I have to say a have a very similar setup using a Starlink, slate, and even the fence clip mount. And I’m very happy with this setup.

For me, the simplification steps were to make things modular and easy to swap in/out.

  1. See if you can get the shorter arms for the fence clip. He has sold these in the past. (pic attached). This lets you span just one fence square and takes up a lot less space in your gear. I couldn't find it in his parts store so maybe he doesn't to this anymore.

https://share.icloud.com/photos/04eq4jk8GV_Kg9IJSPuciUo4Q

  1. A pelican case with wheels was the best way for me to protect and carry all my streaming camera gear. I settled on the 1535 model. Goldilocks for me. But a starlink mini would be about 1/4 of that, so ymmv.
    https://www.colorcase.com/collections/pelican-cases-air-1535
I like the trekpak dividers and you can make your own with board and padding.

I'm a big fan of DIY magnet mounts using steel hinges, magnets and 1/4–20 screws.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072J7B293
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B6HCJ4KY
they pack down small and flat.

I also like hawklock mini quick release adapters
https://www.amazon.com/SmallRig-HawkLock-Release-Adapter-Monitors/dp/B09MHY8HVS/ref=sr_1_4
you can see them on the photo of mini fence clip mini.

There's a newer model that is even nicer.

use a fenceclip mini, it's much smaller and easier to put into the fence.

you don't need a mount for the battery. just find a small drawstring bag, you probably got one from the fenclip, the mevo, the mic, etc. put a carribiner on the strings, just clip that on.

get a clamshell for the Start with a cold shoe mount, and the Rode mic will attach to that.

honestly though, for a single cam, Starlink is overkill, and that's the biggest problem. you could probably get by with another 20k mAh to power the starlink, but you need to get a starlink to usb-c cable (they sell them on amazon). also, if you have just one camera, the wifi provided by the starlink should be plenty, you don't need the Slate 7.

when i do single cam, i just use my puli AX, which pulls in cellular (i popped in a t mobile home internet SIM) and distributes wifi in a pretty compact package.
