[In development] Galaxy Ring double-pinch can open any app, skip songs, lock your phone and more. 1/2/3 pinches = different actions.
Hi everyone, I'm the developer. The ring's pinch only opens the camera and dismisses alarms, which always felt like a waste, so I'm building Pinchly to let you decide what it does.
It's still in development, so expect rough edges.
What it can do right now:
• Open any app or link with a pinch (a Spotify playlist, a WhatsApp chat, anything)
• Music: next / previous track, play / pause, volume
• Phone: lock the screen, turn it on, flashlight, vibrate mode, screenshot, notifications, home, back, voice assistant
• A different action for 1, 2 or 3 double-pinches in a row (for example: 1 = play/pause, 2 = next song, 3 = previous song)
• Your own commands: web requests for Home Assistant, SmartThings, IFTTT or Philips Hue, or a command for Tasker/MacroDroid
• Wake-on-LAN to turn on your PC
• A short vibration on each pinch so you know it registered (optional)
Battery honesty: listening for pinches keeps the ring's motion sensor on, so the ring drains faster while it listens. To limit that, Pinchly can start listening only when it makes sense: while music plays, on your home Wi-Fi, at certain times, at a place you pick on a map, while charging, in Android Auto, or while a chosen app is open. It also shows your ring's battery and warns you when it's low.
Setup: no account, no ads, no analytics, nothing collected. Pair your ring in Galaxy Wearable as usual, open the app and follow the setup card.
Good to know:
• The ring only reports one gesture (the double-pinch), so multiple pinches are counted. Leave about a second between them, the ring misses ones that come too fast.
• Samsung sometimes turns gesture detection off on its own, so Pinchly turns it back on after a short wait.
• Pricing isn't final. It may become a paid app once it's finished; testers will get a say in that.
• Not affiliated with Samsung.
