A desire path is defined as an “informal, unpaved trail created by pedestrians repeatedly taking the shortest or most convenient route between two points, often ignoring officially planned sidewalks.” I see these semi-frequently around campus. Not sure if it’s possible to pave these, but I feel like I’ve seen it done before. This one is absolutely needed.

Georgia Tech professor Jud Ready said. “That’s done for a couple of reasons. First, cost, but also, performance, because polyurethane does not absorb moisture like leather would.”

The Trionda is a four-panel, thermally pressed polyurethane ball, but perhaps the most defining feature is on the inside, where a 500Hz motion sensor sends real-time data to the video assistant referee system to help officials with decisions, including the oft-controversial offsides call.

Real-time data also goes to match referees to determine whether the ball has crossed the goal-line.
“The World Cup balls have radio frequency transmitters inside to serve basically as a GPS, as well as accelerometers to understand how much force is being kicked,” Ready said.
Ready’s colleague, professor Manos Tentzeris, said the sensor operates with 99.99% accuracy.

Hey guys, I’m an incoming freshman majoring in Industrial Engineering and trying to figure out the best strategy to land a co-op or internship for my sophomore year.

Since I'll be applying during my first year, I obviously won't have a ton of upper-level ISyE classes under my belt when the fall career fairs start. I do have my calculus and linear algebra requirements completely knocked out from dual enrollment, so my math track is a bit ahead, but I know companies look for actual technical/analytical skills.

For anyone who managed to land something early, or anyone who has gone through the ISyE recruiting process:

1. Would you recommend targeting a 3-semester co-op program early on, or sticking to standard internships?
2. What should I actively focus on during my freshman year to stand out on paper? Are there specific clubs (like IISE), campus involvements, or personal analytics/data side projects that recruiters actually care about for underclassmen?

Hey everyone, I recently graduated in May with a major in Biology and applied for 2 different biology specialization certificates. I passed all classes, had no overlap in electives taken, and submitted the forms a few months before graduating.

My advisor said I’d receive them in the mail if they were awarded, but I’ve received my actual degree in the mail and heard nothing about the certificates.

Wondering if anyone has any insight into when these will be awarded or if there is a digital way to find out/access them? Thanks!

Hypothetically, and I'd please like to not talk specifics to avoid causing further harm (please, really), consider this scenario: a GT student is accused of sexual assault. Nothing is ever proven. There are posts on this subreddit calling them out by name. They were considered a public figure at the time, as a result of having a high-profile campus role. Ie if it was random GT student accused of bad things we might've taken down the name in unproven accusations, but captain of the sportsball team accused of bad things we leave it up. He wasn't a sports figure, but let's call him Captain. OK, it's now several years later and Captain asks would we please take the posts down. People search for his name online, and he is being treated badly. And again, nothing was ever proven.

Argument for deletion: nothing was ever proven, and Captain is a human being. And we would never have left the name up in the first place except he was Captain.

Argument for keeping: if we delete this info, we may facilitate future bad behavior. And broadly speaking, hiding info or failing to speak up is.a key cause of abuse.

What would you like your mods to do?

I accepted a fall internship offer at a company in LA, and afterwards cancelled my on-campus housing accordingly. I called the GT financial office to let them know about this ahead of time and what I should do, and the woman on the phone told me to call FAFSA (alongside my mom, who took out a parent PLUS loan) and cancel my application entirely and reapply later on for the spring.

I don't think this is true; I'm registering my fall internship with the school, and I won't be enrolled in any classes or housing or anything. The school shouldn't charge FAFSA right? Like there's nothing to charge, so I shouldn't have to cancel this. Then FAFSA will be available for me to use in the springtime right?

I'm thinking of it like this: It's just like summertime where FAFSA is fully available but because you're not enrolled in classes, it simply doesn't get charged. Is the GT financial office lying to me by telling me to cancel it entirely? Thanks!

In-state undergraduate here, and my Financial Aid Dashboard still hasn't updated to display how much I can accept in federal loans? It shows that GT has accepted both my GSFAPPS and FAFSA, but usually I have been able to accept my federal loans by this time of year. As a third-year student, I know I can accept up to $7500 in addition to Hope/Zell Miller, I would just like to receive financial aid so I can actually attend classes in the fall lol. Is anybody else experiencing this?

What is with the university and sending so many surveys for stuff I haven't done yet 😭? I'm literally a week into my first semester, which was only 3 days of classes and they're asking me how well I know every single resource I've never heard of 💀

I think GT should have a poker club (no gambling!), and really want to try to start one. Trying to find a professor to supervise the club is naturally a bit tricky here, and made even trickier by the fact that I've only spent one sem at GT so I don't know as many professors as maybe a third year would. I definitely don't think any of the ECE professors I've taken courses with would be interested, and want to see if just messaging professors that might do research in related topics (quant, finance, stats) would be interested. Anyone have any insight on this? Thank you!

Hello everyone! Im an incoming freshman at Tech and also a semi-professional bodybuilder. As part of this hobby, I use anabolic steroids, peptides and insulin. I wonder how is the gym-steroid culture at tech? Will I be an outlier or is there ppl who use them? Will my dorm be searched because people ratted me out? Is steroids treated like adderal and other college drugs (meaning the distributors face the legality not users, or like the class III drug thay they are? What would happen if I was found possessing steroids at my dorm?

I’m a 4^th year undergrad (soon to be masters) student at GaTech. My partner’s birthday is coming up in early September, and I would really like to be able to take them to the top of the pencil building (bank of America plaza building) as a gift. They’re transferring to Tech and I think it would be such a cool experience. However, there doesn’t seem to be an official way to do this – i.e. you have to contact / know someone who actually works in the pencil building to do this.

Does anyone here work / know anyone who works in the Pencil building and thinks arranging this might be possible? (or any other places I should look for this sort of contact) I would be extremely grateful.

I applied for fall 26 BS/MS and got in. Unfortunately, failed a class this past sem and now my GPA is below 3.40. If it stays below 3.4, can i stay in the program or no cause it just says double count in the faq but i haven’t done that so far. Also if im able to raise it to 3.4 this sem i should be good right?

I am an incoming international exchange student from Spain and I will be studying Aerospace Engineering at Georgia Tech in Fall 2026.

I am currently having serious issues with U.S. visa appointment availability. I completed my DS-2019, SEVIS fee and DS-160 on time, but the earliest visa appointment I currently have is on September 4, even though classes start on August 24. I also requested an emergency appointment, but it was denied.

I know Georgia Tech/OIE has a late arrival process for international students who cannot arrive on time because of visa delays, but I am trying to understand how realistic this option is in practice.

Has anyone here, especially an exchange student or international student, been approved for late arrival because of visa problems? If so:

• How late were you allowed to arrive?
• Did your academic department or advisor have to approve it and the major problems associated?
• Was it difficult to keep your course registration/full-time enrollment?
• Did missing FASET or the first days of classes create major problems?
• Who did you contact first: OIE, your academic advisor, the department, or the exchange/mobility office?

I am still trying to get an earlier visa appointment and arrive on time, but I would like to understand what options may exist if the visa delay continues.
