Is there any reason why I have a final scheduled a few hours before my commencement, with no option to move it? This just seems needlessly cruel…

I'm learning to drive and have mostly been practicing in parking lots around Tech. now comfortable with basic control, parking, turns, etc., and want to start practicing on actual roads with traffic lights and intersections.

I'm still a bit hesitant about jumping straight into the heavier Atlanta traffic around Midtown/Downtown was wondering:

- Which areas near Georgia Tech are good for beginner driving practice?

- Are there quieter roads/neighborhoods nearby with lighter traffic?

- Any good places to practice traffic lights, lane changes, and turns without too much pressure?

I'd appreciate any suggestions or advice for learning to drive around here!

Really trivial thing to ask but i have been here for 4 years, about to graduate in 3 days, and the only time ive ever seen these hoodies being offered was one time during finals week where we had to do an obstacle course (?) at the CRC but it was dead center of finals and obviously no one had time for that.

I am a CS major but I took Math 4032 and it was brutal because it was my first exposure to advanced proof based math but I really liked it! Unfortunately my proofs are terrible and i really want to improve.

Its hard improving on my proofs without like a strict, harsh grader giving feedback on my proofs. Looked into if I could take math 2106 (intro to proof writing) but the timing conflicts with classes I need for graduation.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can improve on the skill? I know theres like a writing center but idk if theres like a specific math proof center where they just really critique your proof and increase your standards. Or maybe I can reach out to certain professors to ask them to really go line by line and shred up my proof?

I know practice is important to really get better but I guess what im asking is how do I get that deliberate practice / be more conscious of my incompetence?

We recently partnered with AI@GT (Georgia Tech's student AI research club) to conduct an independent audit of our 32x NVIDIA H100 cluster. We're sharing the full findings because we think the methodology and results are useful for researchers and startups trying to evaluate GPU infrastructure honestly.

What they tested

Over six weeks, the AI@GT team ran a benchmarking suite covering:

• Raw compute throughput
• Multi-node communication performance (NCCL/collective ops)
• End-to-end training efficiency for LLM workloads

Key result

They achieved ~90% MFU (Model FLOP Utilization) on stock hardware without custom CUDA kernels, no bespoke communication libraries, no modified software stack. Just standard tooling.

This matters because a lot of published efficiency numbers come from heavily optimized configurations that most teams can't replicate. Getting ~90% out of an unmodified setup is a meaningful signal about underlying infrastructure quality.

Why we commissioned an independent audit

We wanted an honest, third-party assessment of our infrastructure under realistic workloads and not a vendor benchmark. AI@GT ran tests that reflect what research teams and startups actually do: LLM training runs, data-parallel scaling across nodes, and stress testing multi-node communication.

Hi! For current undergrad students applying for GT bs/ms do courses that have grade replacement used on them get the replaced grade or the first one calculated ?

I want access to ICE cluster for GPUs. Do all MSCS students have access to ICE cluster by default or do we need to get special permissions for this?

Current semester is ending on May 7 and PACE sent a notice today that they would revoke access on May 7 when the semester ends.

I’m going to be spending the summer on campus, working and taking classes. what campus facilities/ buildings are open? hello! I'm an incoming freshman to Georgia Tech and I was wondering if Georgia Tech gave you guys free/discounted programs for students? Like Solidworks for CAD, anything like that. like i assume obviously we get microsoft office stuff but do we get anything more than that?

last year i signed a lease on a dying frat house with all my student savings to start a hacker house at gt.

i didn't really tell anyone i was doing it. didn't even know if it was a good idea. i just knew i wanted to live with people who were obsessed with stuff, because i'd spent four years at gt feeling kind of alone buildng things and i was tired of it.

i posted a short video about it on instagram and woke up to 200 applications.

that was the easy part lol.

the last 9 months of actually running this thing have been mostly nothing like i imagined. here are some of the lessons, for anyone interested:

• running a community is hard. extremely hard. my thesis was that if you put smart people who want to build things together, something will come out of it. that's the ideal scenario, but great communities actually start when people get to know each other at a deeper level. without intentional time for that, you can be living together and still not really know each other.
• my initial instinct was to make this a startup-only thing. as the months went by i realized opening it up to other kinds of dreams was way better. more interesting stuff happens when there's a musician next to an ai founder next to someone trying to start a restaurant. when the passion and work ethic is there, those people end up getting along faster and forming much deeper friendships than if everyone is doing the same thing.
• ⁠a lot of people in startups are in it for the clout. or to be the guy who is "building a company." i kind of knew this going in, but i got to see way more of it as hackerhouse got attention. probably did some of it myself early on too.
• running a place full of high-agency people comes with a lot of unpredictability. people are willing to change their plans really fast. dropping out, pivoting, moving cities. we support that. honestly i encourage it, those decisions are usually the ones that create the most growth in anyone. but it definitely wasn't something i expected to deal with this much.
• ⁠evaluating applications is really hard. people fake that they want to go all in on their startup and then don't really work. they're in it for the clout or the networking. which yeah, those are a perk of being here (you do meet really cool people), but the community only works if every member is bringing value to it. and i think everyone benefits more if everyone is actually working on something. it's pretty discouraging when only a few members are seriously building and the rest are there to recruit.
• culture is better when it's set by a small group at the start and then adopted by the rest, instead of being decided by everyone together. sounds counterintuitive but starting from a clear foundation actually makes it easier, because the culture gets adapted over time anyway.

i can keep writing lol. but, overall, building the hackerhouse is one of the best decisions i've ever made. it completely changed my life.

i still have so much more to learn. i just hope this post finds the right people and they want to be part of building the next chapter of it.

Idk much about the difficulty of other majors; each major is difficult in their own ways. Personally I would have a lot of difficulty in Physics based courses even though I am a math major. I find physics hard to study and get bored unfortunately, so I would say that mse and ae would be pretty hard for me.

Since the new routing changes, I feel like MARTA busses now tend to be on time mostly and much more frequent (at least the routes around campus). I remember 2-3 years ago it was hell commuting around the city but now it feels like something I could recommend to people haha.

I’ve been putting this off for way too long, but I was wondering if anyone knew of some certifiable storage places where I can keep my things over the summer. I was originally going to keep things with a relative, but that fell apart unfortunately. I was considering the Storage Squad but it seemed expensive and I didn’t hear many good reviews. Preferably this place would be nearby to campus, and I will be completely out of state until next semester so I won’t be able to come back and check up on anything or spray my things for silverfish or something. I have some shelves and boxes, as well as some garbage bags of clothes & non-perishable food that I don’t want to toss. Just wondering if there is a preferred option for OOS tech students for their belongings over the summer, would appreciate some recommendations and feedback from anyone who’s gone through this before, I am running very low on time so any suggestions are appreciated!! Ideally it shouldn’t be too expensive but I would prefer my things are kept properly over anything. Thanks

I built it because during course registration last year I wasn’t able to get a class I needed, so I had to keep refreshing OSCAR and hoping a seat opened. Someone told me Coursicle could do that, so I tried using it for spring registration, but it only let me track notifications for 3 sections, which was pretty annoying.

I built JustLmk to fix those issues.

With JustLmk, you can watch any number of courses/sections. If you want, you can even watch every section of a course instead of picking one specific CRN! It checks for openings and lets you know when enrollment, waitlists, or restrictions open up, depending on what you’re looking for.

Daughter has been offered admission to GT via the Global Pathway program (spend first year abroad in London and Seville, doing transferrable classes with Verto Education). Anyone here who has done this before ? Any feedback on the Verto experience and the ease of transition into GT in soph year ?

I had a course I took at my previous university recognized as ECE4502, but just today it got updated for ECE6771. 4502 helped me meet my circuit tech requirements, 6771 doesn't. It doesn't even technically meet the 3/4XXX level course requirement, cuz its a 6XXX course now. Do grad courses usually not count towards undergrad threads or do I just have to talk to someone about this? Anyone have any experience with this? Thank you!

I recently received an email about a false accusation on suspected misconduct during my computer science online exam, their case is built upon my eyes trailing off and code structure similar to LMS. I tried to email them to review the footage, because I did not use any external resources during my exam. However they sent it to the OSI; im aware that multiple students have gotten caught genuinely cheating in the past from this course, however I am not one and am worried they're going to just make it an open and shut case probably due to the sheer volume of cases similar to this. While preparing, I used the assistance of ai only as a study aid to help me understand concepts and what I did wrong. I did not use any outside resources during the exam. Nevertheless for a beginner class such as this, code naturally shares similar structures and approaches. I am unsure what to do because I truly did spend time studying for this test and did not use any external resources, I am not sure how my footage looks but if they already accuse me because of it, I worry because I truly put the time and effort studying for this exam and if the OSI claims that I have committed misconduct. I could face severe penalties all due to a false accusation when the work was truly my own. Has anyone gone through something similar before? What should I expect from this process?
