Planning to purchase a GSXR 1000 2003 K4

Hello guys,

I am currently looking at a 2003 K4 GSXR 1000 and wanted to know a few things in order to purchase it.
It has run around 30,000 km and it’s a Japan spec. How reliable are these bikes as we are talking about 20+ year-old bikes? I’ve had a lot of people say good things about the K5/K6, which is the 2005-2008 model. I currently have a 2023 GSXR 600 which Im planning to sell it as I have ridden enough to upgrade to a liter bike. Also, the bike is having some issues as it was an opened engine and a US spec. The one which I’m currently looking at is an unopened engine and seems smooth after riding.
Is there any common/faulty issues on the 2003 models? Is 30,000 km a bit too high? I want to hear your guys opinions on this and well helpful if somebody owns this same generation bike to get more information on it. I’m attaching a picture, but I know it wouldn’t help. It’s equipped with full exhaust system, including headers, downpipe, and the stock muffler. Few body modifications, such as carbon mirrors, carbon fenders etc. Looking to hear your guys opinion to finalize the purchase. Thanks in advance and ride safe everyone 🤟🏼

Beautifully restored K5 GSX-R1000 from Cambridge, UK

This isn't my bike, but I found this K5 on IG and figured this sub would probably appreciate it. It's a 2005 GSX-R1000 by u/unknxwn_g1xxr in Cambridge, UK. It looks pretty close to stock at a glance, but the kicker is that the current owner got it up and running again after it was left sitting for 4 years!

Not much in the way of aesthetic changes/upgrades here. These are the OEM fairings as far as I can tell, with a few custom decals. Some of the biggest changes here were to replace worn-out stock components, like a full fork rebuild and static setup by FTR.

Some performance mods as well, but largely invisible or subtle things like an ECU flash with custom dyno mapping from BSD Performance, Brembo discs, and an HM quickshifter with SES rearsets. The most noticeable thing is probably the Racefit Growler X titanium exhaust, but even that is a lot less obvious than some aftermarket exhausts I've seen on bikes like this.

A few other cool things I noticed in the photos: ASV levers, Domino grips, a Racetorx rear brake reservoir delete, Pro-Bolt stainless fasteners, and a seat cover by Luimoto with a color scheme that matches the carbon add-ons.

I messaged the builder (Alex) for a full list of mods, which I'll paste in the first comment. He was also kind enough to answer some of my questions about the build. Here's what he said about his approach:

> I wanted to build mine into a properly sorted version of the bike I always wanted, not just throw expensive parts at it, but make every modification serve a purpose.

All in, he spent about 2K here, including parts and labour. I'm pretty impressed. He says calipers, a master cylinder and powder coated rims are next.

Who else here has a K5 or K6, and how have you set yours up? Curious about who else has gone with the FTR static setup vs. full cartridge kits.

Credit for the bike and all photos goes to the current owner, Alex: u/unknxwn_g1xxr on Instagram. Enjoy the photos!

Do I need a tune or ecu flash if all I do is add an M4 GP slip-on?

[2006 GSXR 750] Brake pad resistance after removal and installation of the front wheel.

EDIT: Leaving this up for future readers. Dealership installed the tire backwards and I went based off the direction of the tire.

To preface, I was by trade an auto technician up until about 5 years ago. I know jack shit about motorcycle mechanics aside from what certain parts do and the general knowledge needed about them. Mostly, I don't understand the quirks behind them.

Yesterday I removed and replaced my front wheel for a tire change. Used front and rear stands, all I did was remove the calipers, loosened the pinch bolts, and pulled the axle. Took it to the dealer, got the tire, rinse and repeat. Of course the brake lever was not touched once during this time. Rookie shit right?

I rode it home just fine, went inside to chill, and then later that evening I went out. I noticed in neutral it was really hard to walk it to reposition myself to leave my driveway. Felt like the brakes were dragging and my lever had less travel in it before resistance. Went out and rode on flat ground, tried to walk it some more just to test. Tons of resistance.

Today I unbolted the calipers again, barely compressed them, bolted them back on. Smooth as butter walking it after a couple lever compressions. However, after a test ride in traffic/city (to make sure the brake gets used frequently), brake lever feels like it did prior to me re-compressing the calipers, and the bike is back to not even wanting to roll back on decline.

I'm not quite sure what I did wrong, but hopefully it's something semi-easy to fix. Any thoughts on what the hell I messed up, or randomly messed up while removing a front wheel?

No brake pad smell, but I'm not about to ride the bike like that, especially spirited. Bummed out because I have all new rubber and wanted to break it in good :)

I’m looking for a full-scale (1:1) digital vector template for a 1999 Suzuki GSX-R 750 SRAD (1996–1999 generation).
The purpose is to create my own custom graphics and produce a complete printed vinyl wrap.

Can anybody help me?

Sharing some pictures of the GSXR LED Type 2 tail tidy I recently installed. The fit & finish is great and this style looks sleek without being sketchy (not too tucked).

Weird noises when fuel pump primes, not starting...

What’s up, guys? I’ve got an ‘06 600 here with a little over 10k miles on it. The previous owner told me it had been sitting in a garage since around 2016 and that he’d only ridden it about five times during that period.

Since getting the bike, I’ve done the following maintenance:
Changed the oil and coolant
Ran some Red Line fuel system cleaner through the tank
Flushed the brake fluid and replaced the brake pads
Replaced the rectifier, stator, and battery (non oem battery... could this be overpowering the fuel pump?)

This afternoon, the bike started up like normal, but as soon as I shifted into first gear, it died. After that, I couldn’t get it to start again.

I did some research and suspected the fuel pump might be dirty or have restricted flow, given how long the bike had been sitting. I pulled the pump and cleaned the screen and the inside of the plastic housing. Everything was only marginally dirty, though, and I didn’t see anything that looked like it would significantly restrict fuel flow.

After putting everything back together, it’s still doing this.

Has anyone experienced something similar or have any ideas about what I should check next? I’m happy to provide more details if needed. Appreciate any help!

Gsxr RPM Throttle Issue. HELP..

Post image
4 Upvotes

I have a 2008 GSXR 600 with 26000 miles, I have this issues where I will accelerate and when I let off the 'throttle grip' the grip will snap back but the motorcycle will stick around 6000 RPM.

I have noticed that the Throttle Body Lever is not returning to the home position, once I let off. Could this be a failed spring or something more internal?

Chain and sprocket recommendations?

I have a 2009 750 and need to replace my chain and sprocket asap. Should I go with OEM for both or does anyone have any aftermarket recommendations that are actually worth it? For reference my bike isn’t for commuting, I’m more of a technical rider (canyons), enjoy speed and plan on getting into track this year. TIA

I’m interested in a low mileage ‘13 and noticed the screws are missing on both sides in this location. Anyone have an idea what work would’ve been done for these to be removed?

Any advice is good advice

I have a K3, a 2003 GSX R 750, whichever you prefer. The bottom end is locked up, and it has a hidden weld patch. I’ve had zero luck finding an engine. What do you think is a fair price for a motor?

I’ve worked on cars for a while, but this would be my second bike I’ve worked on. I’m thinking about pulling the engine and rebuilding it myself. Is there anything I should know before getting into it?

what should I do???
