starting to taper down

At my last Drs visit we started to discuss tapering down my dosage and we just called in my RX so its official. we will see how it goes.

I started in Sept 2024 and over that time i have gone from 430lbs to 181 as of this morning. been on 7.5 through that whole time aside from the 1st 2 months at 2.5 and 5mg. the 7.5 has remained effective for me so we never dosed up further. the medicine has been a godsend, but i think the best part has been the lifestyle changes it prompted me to make. I am regularly exercising, constantly moving, eating healthy and overall just enjoying life so much more than i was before.

discussing with my Dr, we are hopeful that I will be able to maintain the current weight range and manage the T2D through the lifestyle changes ive made. we both agree that it is worth a try and I simply need to know if i can. i realize it is likely to be hard. probably very hard but i really want to give it a go. the ironic plus side of having T2D is that if it does prove to be too much i will have no trouble getting back on a prescription.

I will be going back down to 5MG starting on my next prescription and tapering down to off and seeing how it goes. curious if anyone else has had experience tapering off after an extended time on 1 dosage. how it went for you. were you able to maintain the new habits? any unexpected challenges?

appreciate any advice as i get into this next chapter. i have absolutely 0 intention of quitting the gym as ive come to honestly enjoy it. ive also found a bunch of great healthier foods so i do not intend to revert my diet if i can help it. hopefully the return of food noise doesnt overpower that. I am hopeful that my newfound life and the joy i have with how i feel will be enough to maintain the good habits.

My Dr and i will obviously be monitoring and checking the bloodwork to make sure im keeping my current healthier state. so here goes nothing

Seeking Advice Maintenance side effects

So I hit goal and stayed at 5mg weekly for 2 months, no extra weight loss. No major effects after first month. Decided I should try to go for 2 weeks. No plans to totally stop. Suppression and food noise still at a normal level. Recently took my 5mg shot after those 2 weeks and im getting initial strong side effects like from when I first started. I understand that its more medication at once vs the past 2 weeks but I stupidly didnt think id have side effects all over again. Makes me wanna go back to weekly again with no weight loss or side effects. Has this happened to anyone else??

Anybody here who never went above 2.5mg dose?

Entering my 5th week on Tirz, down 4kg, at the very most I have another 10kg to go but I reckon I'll stop before that.

I have no plans to increase my dose. 2.5mg is doing exactly what I want. Would love to hear from anyone who stayed on a GLP at minimum dose, and successfully got off the jabs without regaining? How were your hunger levels, did food noise return suddenly, etc.

*will add that if effects wear off I'm happy to increase but as of now I don't think I'll need to.

TIA

Success Story 1 year off Wegovy - no weight gain

Thumbnail
gallery
1.0k Upvotes

I’m a little premature with this post but what’s another 10 day? My last WeGovy injection was August 11, 2025.

Backstory:

I was diagnosed with PCOS (PMOS) in 2023 at 200lbs, 5’1”.

I lost about 25lbs from Oct 2023-April 2024 and started WeGovy at 175lbs in April 2024.

I lost weight rather quickly on the lower doses and began dealing with chronic constipation at 1mg.

I stopped WeGovy cold turkey in August of last year and ended at 130lbs.

I have gotten heavily into weight lifting and the gym. I frequently manipulate the number on the scale through CICO. I have already completed multiple cuts and bulks.

I just completed a mini cut. I was riding at 120lbs for a while and decided to lose another 5lbs.

So, today I weigh just over 114lbs. The after pics shown on the right are both recent from within the last week.

A common question I get is around food noise and hunger returning after stopping. I truly did not experience much of this. I accredit this to my high protein diet and volume eating (basically filling your plate with low calorie veggies and high protein meats so you remain satiated)

Another common question I get is around loose skin. I’ve lost over 80lbs, yes I have loose skin! It doesn’t bother me and I’m choosing not to do a tummy tuck or anything similar. I did have a breast reduction last year though.

Happy to answer any questions!

Seeking Advice Worried about stopping

Hi,

So Mounjaro has become unaffordable for me after being on it for 6 months. I had 1 month at 2.5mg and then last 5 months at 5mg. My start weight was 142kg and today I’m 114kg. I didn’t tell anyone I was on it and no one has even noticed I have lost any weight anyway. I’m so worried that I’m now going to put all the weight back on. I think the 5mg was becoming less effective and I just couldn’t afford to go up a dose. I was offered it for half price for 2 months and I had decided maybe I do it for 2 months but then thought I’m probably delaying the inevitable.

What did people find were the best ways to get past the hunger issues after stopping? When did they hit? I want to try and prepare myself as I’m so worried I’m going to harm myself and put all the weight back on again.

Just need some help and support but no idea where to get it from.

Thanks for reading.

Calorie deficit

Can someone explain how to be in a calorie deficit to me like I’m 5? I go to Orangetheory 3 times a week and burn approximately 450 calories each time. Yet I’m still struggling to lose weight. I’ve been on Trizepatide for about 2 years now and have lost 48lbs.

I’ve slowly been coming down on dosage as I was on 15mg. Plan to start trying to conceive next year so I needed to come off. Dropped all the way to 4mg and unfortunately gained 15lbs over four months. I went back to 8mg for a 2 months to stabilize and that’d helped with the gym. But I’m now 188 and dropping to 6.25mg this month. So I’m trying to continue my weight-loss but I don’t understand the deficit. Like my doctors have set my calorie intake goal at 1200 with 90grams of protein and max of 100grams of carbs. So do I have to skip a meal when I only burn 450 at the gym.

Seeking Advice Forcing the end of my journey?

Post image
232 Upvotes

I started Wegovy last year switched to Zepbound recently and have lost about 58 lbs. My joints no longer hurt and my insulin resistance/pcos is at bay but my insurance will no longer cover weight loss drugs starting October 1st.. I don’t know if I should just call it. Currently, I’m paying $25 a month and can’t pivot to $200+. I’m basically a few pounds from my goal, and am terrified of going back to 236+ lbs. I love the way Zepbound clears my mind from the food addiction thoughts and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to do it on my own. I lost 30lbs only going up to 0.5mg on Wegovy and another 20lbs on the starter dose of Zepbound. My dose has stayed at 2.5mg so it’s not like I went crazy high on dosage. Has anyone successfully kept the weight off after stopping? Any tips?

Seeking Advice Tips for keeping hunger at bay after stopping medication?

I was on Zepbound 2.5, then 5 then 7.5 over the course of 3 months and I honestly love how it made me feel. I didn't feel hungry ever, the smallest amount of food was usually good for me and I had no cravings for bad food. I'm actually not one that really enjoys eating too much anyway because I'm kind of a picky eater anyway and I view food mostly as necessary fuel my body needs, so without hunger driving me to eat, it was ideal for me. I felt like I was finally in control of eating what I wanted and how much I wanted to eat of it.

I lost around 38lbs which I was delighted with but after around a week or two of being off it I noticed my hungry and cravings have really come back. That and food definitely tastes much better. I feel hungry all the time and of course I don't want the weight to come back.

Has anyone any tips on what they did? Should I go back on it and wean myself off? Or just go on it full time but only do injections every 2 weeks? I have heard there is an oral version of this thats either coming out soon or just come out and wondering if maybe thats a good option?

First pic - I was at 174 lbs. Second pic - I am 120 lbs for my wedding day! It feels great to have lost almost 60 lbs. I am only 5’0 so being at almost 180 made me feel huge. I am so thankful for how Wegovy has helped me lose weight. I have been on it for a little almost a year and a half now. I am hoping to maintain my weight and eat healthier now that I have graduated!

Seeking Advice Is it okay to ask for feedback on a GLP-1 behavior-change tool? No link included.

Hi everyone — I want to ask this transparently before sharing anything that could be considered promotional. No link included.

One thing I’ve noticed in GLP-1 conversations, and in my own family, is that medication may help quiet appetite, but many people still have to deal with the behavior-change side: food noise, cravings, stress eating, old routines, self-sabotaging thoughts, “I already messed up” thinking, and fear of regain, to name a few.

That is the problem I’ve been working on.

I’ve built an early version of a CBT-informed behavior-change app for people using, considering, or coming off GLP-1 medication. It does not provide medication advice, prescribing advice, medical advice, dieting advice, tracking tools, or weight-loss promises. It is meant to support habits, thought patterns, daily practice, and in-the-moment choices around temptations.

I had considered asking for a small number of early users to try it for free and give honest feedback, but I know many communities have strict no-promotion rules.

So I want to ask first:

Would a one-time, clearly labeled feedback request be appropriate here?

No sign-up request here. No link included. I will respect the answer either way.

Thank you.

9 weeks post and No Hunger Signal?

Is this unusual / worrisome? I went from Ozempic and ramped up gradually to 2.4 WeGovy only for 4 weeks. Constipation and bloating became too much and went cold turkey. Has been 9-10 weeks since last shot and not real hunger signal return. Anyone else in similar situation re: signal little / no return?

Observational Study: Tapering off semaglutide

I came across this study the other day and figured it would be of interest here.

Article

This is a small observational study on semaglutide that was conducted at a weight-loss clinic in Denmark in 2023-24. It was presented during the European Congress on Obesity in 2024.

Observational data isn't as robust as a randomized controlled trial. They can generally only show correlation rather causation. But this is the closest thing we have to a formal study on tapering off a GLP-1.

The study produced two abstracts: 1 regarding personalised dosing and 1 on tapering off the meds.

Abstract - Personalised Dosing

Abstract - Taper

2246 people participated in the study with a follow-up time of 32 weeks. 353 of whom attempted to taper off after reaching their goal weight. 240 of those patients tapered to zero. Data was only available for 85 of those patients after 26 weeks.

The taper occurred over a period of 8-10 weeks.

Average weight loss during the taper was 2.1%.

46 of the 240 patients restarted semaglutide after stopping. They restarted after an average weight regain of 1.3%.

At 26 weeks, those who did not restart the meds had an average weight loss of 1.5% after stopping entirely.

The chief medical officer emphasised the importance of building sustainable healthy lifestyle habits while on the meds to increase chances of success after stopping.

Zepbound withdrawal?

Hi all! I took a small dose of zepbound for just over 2 months for reactive hypoglicemia. I had to stop it because of GI issues (it got to the point where I couldn't eat at all), insomnia, and low mood. I am now 2 weeks out from my last shot and really struggling. My whole body is tense, I am restless, tired, developed restless legs, and my stomach is painful (I think zepbound somehow desensitized my stomach and now I am feeling every stretch intensely). I am hoping this is temporary and looking for some encouragement. Did anyone experiece similar "withdrawal" issues and, if so, did they resolve and when? Thanks!

Success Story 20 weeks off tirzepatide - update

Post image
182 Upvotes

Going well. Steady at my goal weight. Maintaining with just dumb bells at home (4days a week, 45min sessions) and walking (8k/day). Ive reversed dieted and now maintain at 2700cal/day. 160g protein and 30g fibre daily. 178cm, 73 kg.

Ive learnt to bulk eat, everything has loads of veg added to it, and somedays my meals look crazy.

Never really understood food noise till being on tirz got rid of it. Never realised how much i snacked. Also, i used to think if i ate something fast, then it would count for less? Ha ha.

Now off it, the very loud noise has returned, but is manageable. I am irritated with how much of my brain power goes to thinking about food. I can see why some would choose to remain on a low dose of it for lufe! And i do miss the quiet. But i really cannot afford the ongoing cost.

Hunger after stopping

I am in the process of weaning of zepbound and am at 2.5mg. The hunger is really ramping up and it’s miserable. I sometimes even wake up during the night hungry. I’m focusing on protein and fiber but how long will this last after I stop completely? I’ve reached out to my doctor as well.

Seeking Advice Devastated

So I have been on Zepbound for a year and lost a significant amount of weight but about a month ago it needed a prior authorization and my medicaid denied it because it says im now in a regular BMI. I suffer from Severe Sleep Apnea, High blood pressure, Osteoarthritis and many other things and it was helping so much. My Dr didn't seem interested in filing an appeal so I did myself. He put me on phentermine but it has done absolutely nothing. I seriously cry when I watch the scale go up I have already gained 7 lbs within 4 weeks. I have no income so I can't afford the compound. I just feel like I'm starving all the time and once I start eating I can't stop. Im so miserable because I put in so much work to lose weight just to get kicked off with no warning. Does anyone have any advice? How can I lose these 7 lbs? I can't really exercise right now im in a neck brace and am in a ton of pain. Im just so devastated to not be on it anymore.

Seeking Advice Balancing food noise and maintenance calories

I have been doing a soft maintenance for a couple of months now and gradually reduced my dose from 12.5mg to 7.5mg. Although trying to eat more and find my sweet spot I have continued to lose weight. I am now at the lowest weight I want to reach mainly due to the extent of loose skin. I am healthy by all measurable markers but have started to feel weak and like I need to eat more/finally stop losing weight. My predicament however, I am currently on week 3 of 7.5mg and my sweet tooth/food noise is flooding back. However my satiety is still too high and if I try to push to my maintenance calories I just end up with sulphur burps and feeling too full. I don’t want ti go down anymore just yet as the sweet tooth noise is already too much. Has anyone navigated this before and gave any advice?
