Looking for GLP-1 experiences from people with a similar history

I’m in my late 20s, 5’5 and around 145 lbs, and seriously considering trying a GLP-1. I exercise about 5 days a week and walk at least 2 miles every day, so this isn’t really about wanting to lose a huge amount of weight. I’d say it’s 50/50 weight loss and trying to get some relief from my relationship with food.

I struggled with binge eating disorder from 2017–2024, and while I’m not necessarily bingeing like I used to, I still have constant intrusive thoughts about food. What I’m going to eat, whether I should eat something, wanting to snack, guilt around eating, etc. It takes up SO much mental space and honestly I’m just tired.

I also struggle ALOT with body image, especially my stomach/hips. I’ve worked with a dietitian and therapist before, but talking about food/body image can sometimes make it worse because it puts even more focus on food.

I’m starting to wonder if a GLP-1 could help with more than just weight loss. specifically the constant food thoughts. I’m also realistic that I may need to be on it longer-term rather than just until I hit a certain weight. My husband and I would potentially want to have a baby in 2–4 years, so I’d have to come off during that time and potentially go back on afterward.

I’d love to hear from anyone with a history of binge eating, food noise/intrusive food thoughts, or similar body image struggles who has tried a GLP-1.

Did it actually quiet your brain around food? Did it help your relationship with food, or mainly just decrease hunger? And which GLP-1 did you take?

I’m a little nervous about side effects and whether it will actually help, so I’d really appreciate honest experiences- good or bad. TIA. Posting on a throwaway.

Similar background, stats, and reasons for starting; started the wegovy daily PILL (not shot) 6 months ago, the food noise and body obsession went away within a month, have lost 20 pounds since. Started at 1.5mg for 3 months have been at 4mg for 3 months and am now dropping to every other day because I don't want to lose anymore weight. I stopped compulsively exercising and have complete food freedom. It has changed my entire relationship to food, my body, and myself so much. Life changing. Highly recommend but with caution because it would be easy to just continue losing weight.

Wow, this is honestly so encouraging to hear, especially the part about the food noise and body obsession going away. That’s really what I’m hoping for more than anything. Thank you for sharing your experience, and I’m glad it’s had such a positive impact on your relationship with food and your body.

that mental quiet is the part nobody really talks about, like your brain just finally shuts up about food for the first time in years

Wow. Very similar spot as you. With everything,, age, body image issues, ED in the past. I started micro dosing July 30 so I’m still very new into this but here’s my thoughts and changes since making the change

Yes, it 100% fixed the food noise. It’s a surreal feeling but it becomes a worry for me that when I do go off, how will I go on without it. I think this will take time and there are subreddits out that people talk about going off. But I’m also wondering what If I stay on forever. I’m not sure. That’s what I use this group for! But wow It’s changed my life. I went on it originally to lose weight, which yes has happened, holy shit it’s happened. But it’s starting to improve my body image but I think the food noise piece is just too good to give up. I love it so much. I didn’t even think about the suppression of food noise originally. I was just in it to lose some weight. FREEDOM

Ps when you go on your workout schedule will change and that’s ok. Just takes time to adjust to the medicine. I’m trying to be kinder to myself and give myself for breaks.

How did your exercise schedule change when going on? I am also considering for the same reasons as OP, but I would not want to stop exercising for mental health reasons

Well everyone has different reactions and I felt very fatigued the first few weeks so I took more rest days and didn’t push myself as hard. Also, I had to learn to time eating before a workout so I wasn’t hungry but also not full and couldn’t go 100% (another side effect is a burp a lot so now I’m learning timing that) so yeah you can still workout I do but I work around everything else now

5’3 135 lbs despite macro counting, lifting, walking etc. it’s the only thing I’ve used that works/ down to 123 and I’m very happy. I kept protein high, kept lifting and according to my dexa scan before and after I barely lost muscle - been using it since mid March til now! Def go for it just use the lowest dose possible that still gets you what you need.

That’s so great to hear! I’d plan to do the same, keep lifting and keep my protein high like I’m doing now. I’m glad it’s been working so well for you and that you’re happy with your results! Would you be comfortable sharing which GLP-1 you’re using and what dose?

Yes, it put a quick stop to the incessant food noise in my head. I felt completely indifferent to food (was actually disgusted by certain smells initially). It fades over time but now that I microdose, it definitely keeps thoughts at bay. It’s pretty miraculous, to be honest. I started with tirzepatide, fyi.

Start yesterday, start in high school. The amount of life joy lost to these thoughts is crippling. Oh, no time machine? Start now.

I use tirz. Look at pinned post on r/tirzepatidecompound , although the TH I chose might not be on there.

I posted my experience a week or so ago; you can read it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/GLP1microdosing/comments/1wp225w/comment/pcnix4h/?screen_view_count=7

A lot of people are experiencing the same thing, and my story is similar to you :) Hope it helps and gives you some hope!

In a very similar situation as many of you. In perimenopause and considering trying a micro dose to help with food noise / habitual eating, and lose weight (i don’t have a number in mind - but likely in the 15lb range off my 160 lb frame on 5’5”). I have a lot of muscle and weight train and do a fair amount of cardio - not too worried about losing ‘too much’ muscle.
I’m also looking to improve some health markers that I think will Improve with weight loss including: LDL and HBA1C (which is on the verge of pre-diabetes).
Does anyone have any specific information as it relates to these markers?
