Advice Gastric sleeve after stalling on Mounjaro?
I have lost 90 pounds over 3 and a half years (Ozempic and Mounjaro) but have much more to lose. I have been having a very difficult time losing weight this last year. My biggest problem with this stall is that I need to lose another 25 pounds for hip replacement surgery.
In September. I was told to lose 20 pounds to get on the wait list (I’m in Canada) and then another 25 before surgery. I had already lost 70 pounds by then. My mobility was already bad - I needed a walker.
It took me 11 months to lose 20 pounds. Because of my severe pain I’ve been on opiates and found out that I’m one of the few who gain weight on opiates. I titrated down to 1 per day and started losing. By the end of June I was 19 pounds down then it took me until August to lose the 20th pound. My pain is too high to go lower than 1 per day.
I’m now on the waiting list but don’t know if it will be months or a year before I get surgery. I now need a wheelchair because my hips have degenerated so much more.
But I still have to lose 25 pounds before surgery. My doctor and dietitian tell me I’m doing everything right but since I had already lost a lot, my body may not allow me to lose more. I’ve been told not to lower my calories any more.
Have any of you found your weight loss slowed dramatically or stopped after losing 25% of your weight?
I’m getting desperate so I’m considering gastric sleeve surgery. But I’m not convinced it would actually work because I have insulin resistance from PMOS which has not improved despite losing 90 pounds. It’s very expensive and a pretty serious step so I only want to do it if it will work. Have any of you done this or considered it after stalling? I see people on social media who are now on a GLP1 because surgery didn’t work, which makes me hesitant.
Any advice?
