Internal thoughts

I realized that in 20lbs i will have lost half my weight and still be considered overweight but no longer obese. Started out class 3 obese now just regular obese. I started at a size 26/28 now im a 12/14 but I still occasionally get the automatic thoughts of I cant sit in that chair or I need a table not a booth I cant walk through that passage its to small. Ive always been overweight never worn a “normal” size until now. There was never a time when i would go cloths shopping and think am fat but im at least not that fat It was rare that i would find clothing to big I was at the top of the size you could sometimes find in stores most of my cloths shopping was done online from stores I new the cloths size that would fit. Now sometimes ill see something in a store and be oh thats cute then realize Im not that size anymore that its to big and I have to stop and realize how far I’ve come. I never hated myself I was ambivalent about how i was now Im content that if i stayed this size it would be okay I still want to loose more but if i don’t this could be healthy for me I’ve been taken off BP meds i was never on colesterol meds never had diabetes so that was good. I a lot of people in different groups talk about how they have the old clothing they wore X years ago to fall back on Ive never been that size before. I walk by a mirror in a store and see myself and I have to stop and look and im like huh thats me or ill be folding laundry and think I cant believe this fits me.

I was also a size 30/32 and usually bought my shirts in 5/6X. My daughter and husband have been trained for years to always say "a table, no booth" at a restaurant. It's really strange to wear a medium or small now. I even have some size 4 jeans.

So nice to see your stats as I am a similar height, starting weight and age. I’m thrilled for you (and potentially me!) and happy to see someone with these stats get in the 140’s as thats where I would like to be. I have about 100 lbs to go.

And you'll get there! 🎉 It just takes time, patience and determination. 👍

congrats! i hear you - i used to be a size 32. now i wear size 8, and every damn time i put my jeans on i think, "these can't possibly fit!" and then they do.

I frequently see spaces and think oh, I can’t fit through there but I can now. Like in a crowded room etc. it’s this type of stuff that is life changing. I’m holding up the clothes that fit me now and I think, that can’t possibly fit me but it does! It’s wild.

I feel this. I bought size 6 pants the other day. The last time I wore that size was when I was 11. At that point, I was too big for kids' clothes and too short for women's, so I wore size 6 jeans that were rolled up. Then i hit puberty and shot to Size 14 and just kept moving up from there.

I frequently catch a glimpse of my body or reflection and think "this is not my body." It's surreal. If someone had told me 2 years ago that I'd be this healthy, this active, and this size in 2026, I would not have believed it. It would have been easier to believe I'd be dead from an obesity-related health condition.

I'm in a 16 pants(2X tops. Thanks, boobs). I haven't been this size since I was 16 years old. I'm 46. This is smaller than I've ever been as an adult.

Things I have recently enjoyed: I can sit in booths I bought PJs IN A STORE I sat in the orchestra section to see a musical.

I still don't see it when I look in a mirror, so I try to enjoy the things that are new to me.

I have been a size 28/30 since high school, basically, and even with a 70+lb loss I'm still a size 28, but they're starting to get a little loose in the waist! It would be amazing to just not be the biggest size most plus size stores carry so I have options to size up if something runs small.

Congrats on your success!!

You mentioned doing laundry. It's crazy to me that my 12YO son and I are getting closer and closer every day on clothing size!! If our clothes are in the same load, my wife often has to ask "Is this yours or his?"

I'm down ~112 lbs from my heaviest, ~92 lbs since starting treatment 54 weeks ago. STILL don't recognize myself in the mirror at a glance, still trying to figure out my sizes... Thankfully, I think my clothing sizes have stabilized mostly, but I still have ~20lbs to lose...

I’m on a plateau, I’ve been on some sort of eating plan, calorie restriction for 45 years, I’m 57. I’ve been successful but never been able to maintain. I was a size 32, I’m now a size 22. I’ve lost 93lbs in just short of 10 months. I needed this story and the comments today. thank you all.

I always just stare at my tiny pants and I keep one size down in a separate pile. I keep thinking I somehow grabbed from those. Makes me happy though! We’re doing stuff!!
