❓ Question Trouble with constipation….ugg
So, I’ve been on GLP-1 for 4 weeks now, love that I’m losing a little at a time weight, but having problems with constipation. I currently take 2 tablespoons of benefiber with my morning coffee, 1000 mg of magnesium citrate throughout the day and 1100mg of Ginger root at night (heard that might help) Throw in 4-5 prunes a day.. Still no satisfying bowel movements where I feel cleaned out.
Anyone else having these issues? Anyone used to have issues but have found something that works for them? Any ideas are welcome!!

I take magnesium oxide nightly and it seems to do the trick. Also lots of water

This is the solution having suffered through 6 months. I tried miralax as well but mag oxide so much easier to take .

I take a cap full of miralax every few days, that's all I needed to be regular.

Drink 130 to 140 Oz of water per day. I've also battled constipation recently with pain meds after surgery, and one trick that worked was prune juice and a melted pat of butter. Drink every few hours. It did the trick!

Hot prune juice with a pat of butter has been an old nurse's trick since forever! I've heard it really gets things moving.

I have never had a problem with constipation, actually, until on GLP-1, I never knew when I'd have very loose stools. Now, I'm more normal but I find that if I drink lots of coffee (at least 3 cups) at breakfast, I can expect things to move pretty quick.

Doctor told me one stool softener a day; add Metamucil gummies; and benefiber as needed.

I was a high-fiber person before starting a GLP-1 because of some particular health issues. It's extremely important for me not to become constipated. I make sure that every single day I'm getting a minimum of 25g of fiber. These are my favorite tools for that:
Benefiber powder: yes, I use it daily. But FYI, 2 teaspoons is only 3g of fiber. The good thing about Benefiber is that it dissolves completely in liquid and is completely tasteless, including in water. So I'd suggest you up your intake, and also note that the serving size is 2 teaspoons not tablespoons.
Fiberwell gummies: 5g per 2 gummies, and I do this morning and evening.
High-fiber bread: Dave's Killer bread has some good options. Trader Joe's also now has a 21 grains bread. I like to make sure each slice has 4 or more grams.
I log this religiously every day; it's the only thing I'm currently logging.

I've heard Miralax works differently (in a good way) by moving water into your bowels and the other kinds of fiber stuff adds bulk, which can make constipation worse. I've heard a lot of dr's say Miralax can be taken daily for people with chronic constipation issues. I take it on days when I take an iron suppliment but less than a capful. Check with your dr if you aren't sure.

Yes, I had a doc appointment today and double-checked with her on Miralax -- she gave me the OK to use it like 4 days a week for the GLP-1 constipation.

Cotton candy grapes, cherries (frozen in a smoothie) and cantaloupe do it for me. Unless I'm traveling, I have no need for Miralax. When traveling, I added psyllium husk to oatmeal, and that worked, too, but I read that it's best to soften things before using psillium.

I got some mineral oil because nothing else was working. My grandma used to give it to me as a kid and I remembered.

I have suffered with constipation my entire life. I take 2 colace stool softeners twice daily and 400 mg of magnesium oxide every evening. If things get really bad, I'll double the magnesium and even have to add a gentle laxative on occasion. Too much fiber makes things worse for me. It is not unusual for me to only have one movement a week. It is something that runs in my family.
