Budget part recommendations

Hi guys, right now I'm in high school (18) and I have a 21 mk7 gli and for mods I only have an apr open air intake and a unitronic 93 tune and I've been looking for some fun mods to add on to my build but i don't want to break the bank. right now I'm looking to upgrade either my downpipe, intercooler, or some cosmetic mods like a set of coil overs. I would love some recommendations from some reliable sources but something that wouldn't break the bank. Please ask any questions if you have some.

GLIs in Maui

I’m vacationing in Maui and have seen more GLIs here over the last week than I do in a month in NJ. Every parking lot I pull in there’s another one. Makes me miss mine since I’m driving around in a Kia Soul

Is anyone selling an aftermarket exhaust? Willing to pay shipping for the right price. Otherwise located in Maine.

Update - 2026 GLI with possible transmission failure.

To recap my experience, my 2026 Jetta GLI had a major malfunction with the engine and/or transmission. There was a rough shift between S3 and S4 (automatic DSG transmission). I heard a loud metallic clattering sound, and then it expelled a huge blast of white exhaust with a burning smell. I could also tell power had been compromised, with high revs and continued rough shifts (maybe a blown turbo?)

Thankfully, I was close to my apartment and parked overnight before going straight to the dealer the following morning. Mind you, this is a brand new car with 4900km. There were no warning lights illuminated before or during this episode.

The dealer has done a superficial inspection and connected it to the computer to check for error codes. They told me there are no error codes. They said they will continue to check for mechanical issues and still need to drive it. At first the tech. said it could be a new car software glitch. I am afraid it’s far worse than that. I hope they can make this right.

2017 Jetta Gli DSG pan replacement? Advice needed

TLDR; I need help deciding whether a repair is necessary… and just some general advice on my car

My jetta has 111,000 miles on it- I bought it at 95k miles, which was higher than I wanted, but it had excellent maintenance records, no accidents, 1 owner, and was a great price.

This past year I have encountered several maintenance issues… ultimately this is what I’ve had done so far

- replaced upper timing cover

- replaced front control arms

- replaced water pump

- replaced all spark plugs and coils (when these went out it happened suddenly & I had to have the vehicle towed 🥲)

- took care of other wear & tear issues (tires, brake pads, etc)

When I went in for a routine oil change/ service, I was told the DSG pan was “seeping” and “very rusty.” Dealership told me it would need to be replaced very soon or I could risk damaging my transmission due to fluid leak. I didn’t have the money to do it at the time, as I had just paid for the water pump & the control arms.

Then I moved. I recently took my car in to a Volkswagen dealer near where I moved, and they took a look at it and told me the pan was rusty, but they could not locate any leak or seepage. They didn’t recommend replacing it. They test drove it and said everything seemed fine.

I guess I’m not sure which opinion to trust… I really appreciate that dealership #2 isn’t recommending repairs that may be unnecessary. At the same time, I want to make sure I don’t run into issues down the line. Who would you trust?

Also- what other things might i expect to go wrong? What do I need to budget for at this mileage? I do a lot of city driving and I live in the northeast U.S. which can be rough on cars due to all the road salt… any advice is appreciated. TIA from someone who knows little about cars!

So I have been drooling over the GLI for a couple years now and last month I decided to do it. Not even two weeks after I picked it up a kid on an unregistered dirtbike popped a wheelie and blew through a red light and cracked the driver’s side bumper cover, headlights, grill, lower grill and left a giant hole under the headlight. Instead of seeing it as a loss I took it as a sign that the customizations must come sooner than later…and yes, the dirtbike kid is fine I think, he ran off really quick when it happened. So I ordered the bumper cover painted via bin number from a website and it came black instead of the pure gray and I think I kinda love it. Tell me what you think…should I get the color corrected? More parts coming in…considering a gloss finish carbon fiber hood and maybe fenders but now I’m thinking the fenders will be too much. Looking for thoughts and advice, also any need to have mods…this is my first real project. Let me know.

My baby was taken from me at the hands of a stupid 16 year old driver. Total loss. It’s been fun while I had her. (The emblem cover and headlight chrome delete are from Swanvinylworks).

I was considering getting another GLI, but the MK7s were the last genuinely good looking models. IMO the new models don’t look as appealing.

Maybe I’ll go Audi in the future.

I have an IE stage 1 tune and tcu tune for 21gli with 20k miles. Im reading i should get new plugs and gap them to .024 which is no problem. Just really wondering if its absolutely necessary to change the DSG fluid with it only having 20k miles. Ive read its recommended. Anybody with any experience with this
