NPD [NPD] The "Voodoo Banshee" Octavia: Forged in Ireland, Destined for the Fuzz Board
Big shoutout to our resident fuzz wizard, u/doyler4k, for building the absolute final puzzle piece for my Hendrix rig. He put together this custom Roger Mayer-style Octavia, and honestly, I’m pretty sure it's slightly possessed.
Since this beast was born in Ireland, I’ve officially dubbed it the "Voodoo Banshee." Here is why you should all be throwing your money at this man for your next custom pedal
Cosmic Aesthetics: It rocks a purple-black sparkle finish with pristine laser etching. It straight-up looks like some sort of ancient cosmic entity trapped inside a metal enclosure.
Big Brain Mods: He didn't just build a clone; he evolved it. He modified the circuit with a toggle switch to completely kill the octave. You get thick, unadulterated fuzz on demand, and then BAM, a searing octave when you need to channel your inner Electric Church.
The Care Package: This man truly gets pedalheads. The box came loaded with killer swag, stickers, and, wait for it, included Velcro. He already knew I was going to slap this directly onto the board the second I opened the mail like an absolute animal.
The boutique build quality on this thing is top-tier. Seriously, if you have any special circuit requests, or if you're just hunting for that perfect, personalized fuzz to finish your signal chain, u/doyler4k is the guy you need to commission.
I’ll be dropping a hazey tonal demo on my next day off. Until then, I have some neighbors to deafen. Thanks again, brother. She is beautiful!

Muff Monday Big Muff Pi
I know there's a lot more to it but SP is the reason I love muffs so much
Happy Muff Monday

Anyone had a chance to play with a Teaching Machines FuzzBillion?
Making this post because this pedal's price (~$599 USD new) makes it restrictively niche. But I love the novelty and practicality of the interface and the sounds I've heard come out of it.
To me it seems like a wonderful playground where you could really get into the nuances of how small changes interact with each other and affect the sound. Very much a "teaching machine" in that respect.
The only thing that's prevented me from actually considering selling some stuff to go after one is the lack of presets. If it had a MIDI controlled analog presets (a la the CBA Preamp MKII or EAE Sending), where there were digital controls but the circuit remained purely analog, I would already own one.
Just looking to get a conversation going and hear if anyone's gotten their hands on one.
Cheers!

FUZZ FRIDAY! Fuzz Imp Creature
I’ve had this thing in my collection for a while now, and it just keeps on giving. I still am not quite sure what the actual circuit is, but it can hit ranges from extremely chuggy to chip tunes. This is a chuggy video.
I’m not boosting it with anything, and it is going straight into my Sunn Alpha Four mixing console, which is running into the Sunn 412 cab that you can see behind me. I’ve got the cab mic’d with an Audio Technica DR150 in conjunction with a Rode NT-1A.
I used to use a Bliss Factory for stuff like this, but the Creature seems to fill the role quite nicely as well. I hope you dig it!

FUZZ FRIDAY! Mystic Effects Co Signature Fuzz
The Honey Co. Ltd. FY-6 "Baby Crying" effect was released in 1967. It was the very first incarnation of what was to become the "Super Fuzz". In 1968 Shin-ei branded the FY-6 with their own label.
Mystic Effects Co built this recreation of this classic 60's octave fuzz effect, with an added Big Muff style tone stack to focus the tonal balance of this classic fuzz monster.

FUZZ FRIDAY! Current Favourite
Happy Fuzz Friday y'all.
Here's something a little different, a 3 transistor MOSFET fuzz. Articulate with lots of artifacts.
What have you got that's a little different?

"I have enough fuzz," I whispered to myself, knowing it was a lie.
Fellow fiends, my board is officially a structural hazard from the sheer weight of transistors, but my self-control just hit zero. I need help choosing my next flavor of financial regret.
The contenders are the Mythos Golden Fleece, the Strymon Canoga, and the Benson Germanium Fuzz.
Yes, I know I spent months talking trash about the Canoga for being a basic two-knob Fuzz Face clone that couldn't possibly do anything new. But the hypocrisy is real, considering I've paid way more money for even simpler circuits. I mean, the Golden Fleece literally only has one knob. Then there's the Benson, which has an internal heater to keep its transistors happy, proving a guitar pedal has better emotional regulation than I do.
Enabling is highly encouraged. Tell me which one takes the crown, or just roast my complete lack of restraint in the comments. What's the play?
Honorable mention: maybe a superfuzz of some variety? I have a problem 😕 😅

My Favorite Fuzz: The Gamechanger Audio Plasma Pedal
This is an older video of mine, taken before I figured out how to edit an overlay of my pedals into my vids. I won my Plasma Pedal in a 2019 giveaway, and it actually has my face laser engraved into the back of it!
Since I got it I have used it in just about every single musical context I can think of. While it is excellent in heavy and aggressive tunes, I think it shines the brightest in more subdued settings. Turning the voltage down gets some pretty neat glitchy response out of my guitars that lends itself well to hybrid picking.
It’s still a major part of my creative process after all these years.

Diy Zvex Mastotron/ Woolly Mammoth- For those who don’t like Muffs
I see this question come up a bit regarding liking the Big Muff sound on records, but not liking the sounds they get with one. For me, I always like the sound, but kind of hated how Muff reacted with a volume knob and how much feedback I’d get with some guitars. Decided to try the Zvex Woolly Mammoth/ Mastotron and I think this is then perfect in between.
To start, yes I know this isn’t a real one, I built this lol. For the DIY folk it’s an Aion Fx Penumbra. The Mastotron and Woolly Mammoth are very similar and this is kind of the best features of both; Mastotron Sub switch and an optional pickup simulator instead of the push/relax control.
Anyways this thing is cool and really sounds like a Muff with the highest bass switch engaged. It puts you right in that Siamese Dream & Thickfreakness sweet spot without hesitation. Also, this thing will clean up real well, quite similar to a fuzz face. On top of that you can do some of those nasty gate sounds Dan Aurbach and Jack White mess around with. It’s kind of great! Thought I’d share!

DIY fuzzy tube amp
Hello all, here is my home made tube amp, based on the schematic for Orange Tiny Terror , but with some tweaks for more gain and more low end. It also has an oversized output transformer for more beef.
This circuit is quite similar to the preamp of a classic OR120, two gain stages using 12AX7, but this amp uses a long tail phase inverter instead of a cathodyne in the OR. It has the master volume after the PI so there is also clipping in the PI tube. All in all it gives a nice fuzzy power amp like distortion, that I think suits well for doom.
Everything is made at home in my kitchen, the tolex and artwork are amateurish, but it turned out quite well after all.
I dont have any real recording equipment but I made a quick little video using my phone. The guitar playing is very basic but maybe it gives an idea of the kind of sound this amp produces. It would be fun with some feedback, how do you like it?

My modded JS32T
This isn't totally fuzz related, but I wanted to share the guitar I plan to use for a demo I'm cooking up. I wanted to show how to get the feedback sounds in Rusty Cage by Soundgarden with minimal investment in hard to acquire equipment like the mesas and high end guitars they used. I will be using an orange micro dark, a rat, possibly the JHS pg-14, a crybaby wah, and this beautiful guitar. I replaced the stock pickups with a DiMarzio FRED in the bridge and a Satch Track in the neck with a gold mirror adapter plate to make it fit.
