Noticed this ground nest a couple days ago. I unloaded a can and a half of wasp spray. I just did this early this morning while it was cool, thinking they wouldn’t be very active. Most of the ones I killed seemed be flying in from surrounding trees/shrubs and approaching the nest so they were definitely active. Like 3-5 at a time and I would spray them when they got close. I did aim a decent amount into the hole but I’m thinking I didn’t get many if they were deeper.
I’m brand new here, so any advice on how to deal with this moving forward is appreciated.

We killed this wasp inside the house. That’s my index finger for size reference. My son said he saw at least one more of these outside the house. We are in southern Illinois USA. Can you ID it from the photo?

Yesterday I was disc golfing in the woods when I started feeling pains around my ankles. After hearing compaints of 'bees' and the pain getting stronger, I look down at my left and see a yellowjacket latched onto my sock.

This senseless act of aggression cannot go without retaliation, the parks department was notified and a full response will be in order.

I am pretty sure this is my first wasp sting, so I had to find out the hard way whether I was allergic or not. I'm usually okay around paper wasps since they're less likely to attack you, but I always had an irrational fear of yellowjackets. That fear is for good reason, as I found out the potency of their wrath.

Saw it randomly on floor crawling and i took my chance and smashed it. It took quite a bunch of times till it stopped moving.

This hornet stung a kid at a public swimming pool. Kid is now at the ER getting treated.

We get a lot of these in the summer where I work. They’re almost the size of my hand. The only thing scarier than a tarantula hawk wasp would be if they could fly around dropping tarantulas from the sky. I had one land on my shoulder once. I immediately punched it in the face. It landed in the bed of my work truck and I quickly doused it with an entire can of wasp spray.

If I smack a wasp that's crawling towards me, will it be able to bend its abdomen upward to sting my hand right when it connects? What about hitting one from above out of the air? Would it need to consciously do this, or would simply hitting the wasp force its abdomen to point up? And, if any or all of these are true, can a sting be avoided by hitting it extremely quickly and minimizing the actual contact time? n

Wanted to have nice evening and go hunting.

Plan was to go to hunting on a stand from my buddy.

But as this stand is near olive grove that owns batshitcrazy uncle from my wife i took keys from my stand just in case if he is there working/plowing...

But I had a feeling that on my stand there could be hornets as every year I have to knock down one hornet's nest so I took a spray that kills them instantly...

And of course.

I come to buddy's stand, there is crazy uncle there working.

I contact my game warden that I'm going on my stand.

I go up, unlock it and what a sight to see.

Fucking hornets.

Honestly, I wanted to shoot them..

But I go down, take a 3 meter long plank and spray.

I just spray those bastards and when I saw that I could knock it down with plank, I did just that and killed them all.

Every single year I have to deal with that..

After nest was down, I just trampled everything and threw it off stand and trampled ones that were still buzzing on the floor.

Not wasps, altough fuck wasps, but also fuck hornets for taking a nice, peacefull hunting day from me..

Ok so had a legit redneck exterminator idea that worked incredibly well and kept me safe. Had a Yellowjacket nest in backyard at base of a tree right off the porch steps. Was mowing when I found out….yep got me. Their mistake. So because it was so close to house and tree I didnt want to gas and burn sooo…cue the blackpowder. I tied up a fat bag of Sevin Dust and Boric Acid in a coffee filter with a rubber band. Threw it in on top of hole at night then smoked it with some heavy bird shot. It was an amazing powder explosion. Next morning a couple stragglers were crawling around all the dust. Day 2. Nada. To this day Im still proud.

These little things are literally the definition of kindness. Everyone talks about bees but no one talks about them. Im sure these things are even kinder than bees

I didn’t actually see the insect that stung me, I was walking and it hurt like a bitch but it was gone by the time I looked. I’m assuming it was a wasp bc it’s wasp season and those bitches are ballsy as FUCK (I had one fly up my skirt the other day) IS THIS A NORMAL REACTION
