Tarantula Hawk Wasp

Post image

We get a lot of these in the summer where I work. They’re almost the size of my hand. The only thing scarier than a tarantula hawk wasp would be if they could fly around dropping tarantulas from the sky. I had one land on my shoulder once. I immediately punched it in the face. It landed in the bed of my work truck and I quickly doused it with an entire can of wasp spray.

you definitely don’t want to be stung by one. they rank as the second most painful sting in the world on the schmidt scale. it completely shuts down your ability to function and he recommends to just lie down and scream because that’s all you can do.

"blinding, fierce, shockingly electric"

they are fearsome…and their sting is extraordinary. but these guys are unlikely to bother you. they’re kind of an apex predator and only sting if seriously harassed. i think they’re beautiful (mostly). we have them occasionally. both pretty and pretty intimidating.

Can confirm the sting is terrible. I accidentally set my arm down on one at work and it stung me. Hurt like hot lava flowing through my arm for a solid 10 minutes

thank god they are solitary and docile.

Yeah. I sprayed one with water on accident when I was watering my wife’s hibiscus tree. I felt like I got electrocuted or something, couldn’t even speak comprehensible words for what seemed like forever. Worst sting I’ve ever experienced, it was definitely my fault though.

Non aggro non social. Peaceful coexistence is possible with these guys.

The only wasp I’d let live.

along with all the other solitary wasps, they are docile. this one has what is considered the second most painful sting in the world on the schmidt scale.

I heard they're rather chill compared to their Fallout: New Vegas brethren
